Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-7)

The quaint, remote Three Pine Cabin sits above the Upper Meramec River, 5 miles from Interstate I-44 (exit 208) and 3 miles from Steelville, MO. It's the perfect place to stay while you enjoy a day of fun floating, swimming, fishing (this stretch of the river is known for its trophy small mouth bass), and/or visiting the local attractions. There are three recreational outfitters within 5 miles of the cabin with a great selection of canoes, kayaks, rafts and tubes to float the river. One of the outfitters has a put in below the cabin, which you could walk too and they will bring you back to the cabin at the end of your float.

The cabin is great for a family or a small group of guys or gals on a weekend retreat. Two bedrooms with a full bed and full/twin bunk bed and pull out full size couch to accommodate up to seven guest.

Local attractions are Meramec Spring State Park, Dillard Mill State Park, the Meramec Music Theater, Wildwild Springs Lodge fall concert series, numerous vineyards and antiquing.

Note: If you look up the address on Google Maps or Mapquest they both have the location marked incorrectly. The cabin is located down the first left drive off of Idlewild Road. The cabin sets above the river.

Thanks so much for letting us stay in your "cute cabin". It worked out for us. We were able to take advantage of the river by taking a rafting trip. Lots of interesting rocks on the shoreline.

We had a great time!

The cabin was clean and overlooks a cool river. An awesome place to get away for a while. Far enough outside of town to relax. But close enough to be convienient. We had a wonderful time.

Nice and secluded.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was at the end of a road, above the river. You could hear the sounds of the river going by. The kitchen has everything that you need for fixing meals. The living room/kitchen was big. The deck is spacious. We are already talking about coming back.

Cabin and property is very nice

  • 3 of 5

Cabin and property was very nice quiet and roomy.

We had to drive down to the river, which is fast moving and shallow

No swimming but excellent for float trips

the outfitter that uses the dock area was in and out all weekend no privacy there at the water would like more opportunities to swim or play in the water.

we had a five year old with and there was no water play.

A Nice Little Place

  • 4 of 5

My family had a very pleasant long-weekend at the Three Pine Cabin! I was very quiet and private, no one ever bothered us, which is just what we were looking for. We were able to raft down the river to the Bird's Nest Lodge -- call them to make arrangements and they can pick you up or drop you off (but make sure you are really specific with them, the young lady at Bird's Nest messed up our start time, but it was still fun to do the rafting). Everything in the cabin was fully stocked -- dinner ware, towels, etc. all provided. There is a gate at the end of the driveway which helps you feel more private too. Even though we stayed in mid-summer (which meant you can't see the river from the deck due to too much foliage) the views were very nice and calm -- trees and birds all around. It must be amazing in the Fall when leaves change! There was an oven, microwave, washer/dryer, TV with satellite, and plenty of other amenities.

I can't help but mention that the gravel road down to the cabin's driveway is in terrible condition - I'm not sure if it's a private road or a county road, but it would sure be nice if that could be repaired. Our stay there was on a rain-free weekend, but I imagine it's a challenge when wet! The only other slight negative is that a couple of the mattresses in the place were not very comfortable (the one in the hideaway sofa bed was really poor - a plain foam pad would be better), but we were able to do some "rearanging" to deal with this OK. Don't let that scare you away, those are the only two things that kept me from giving a full 5 stars (the road and the mattresses). We would still come back if we're in the area. When looking for lodging, my main three things are clean, quiet, and cozy. It has all that!

Here is a tip -- when coming, bring swim shoes or wading boots. The river access right next to the cabin is at the end of a paved ramp and it's pretty rocky. Since the river is shallow along the edges (in our case, it was shallow all over as it hadn't rained in days!), it's helpful to stand in the water a few steps while fishing. I was able to get a MO fishing license at a little bait & ammo shop in nearby Steelville. The ice cream shop there was great too. We also toured Onondaga Cave nearby and that was a worthwhile experience!
