About this property

Luxurious Chateau with Private Pool, Tennis and Par 3 Golf

Chateau Jautrudon has all that is needed for a family holiday in rural France. Set in a 40 hectare estate, the chateau offers a peaceful and secluded location with several kilometers of walkways through our forest, a private fenced pool, tennis court and 3 hole par 3 golf course.

The interiors provide a high level of luxury with antique furnishings together with fully modernised and equipped kitchen and bathrooms. The chateau was fully renovated and modernised when completed in 2007 and lots of enhancements have been performed on an ongoing basis with the introduction of a 3 hole par 3 golf course in the park (clubs provided) and an exercise trail in the forest.

The chateau provides all you will need for a active or relaxing vacation. Just select a book and sit by the fire in winter or the pool in summer, play croquet on the lawn with an early evening cocktail, play tennis and golf, walk through the forest and try to spot the deer and wild boar or cycle to the village to pick up fresh croissant, pain au chocolate and fresh baked bread.

The chateau itself sits in the midst of a network of walking tracks that can lead you to the ancient Priory de Villesalem and many of the local hamlets and villages.

The region is split by 3 major rivers (the Vienne, Gartempe and Creuse) which provide many opportunities for water activities and picnic locations. Just to the north of the chateau is the Parc National de la Brenne which contains hundreds of small ponds and lakes, several of which have beaches, restaurants and water activities.

Close by are the towns of Montmorrillon and Chauvigny which are well worth visiting for their medieval architecture and also their thriving markets and shops. St Savin is a UNESCO world heritage site having a large medieval monastry which can be visited to view the interiors and frescos, as wel as to have a picnic by the river.

Further afield there are numerous morning markets in the surrounding towns and villages where you can buy local produce, clothes and even hens and rabbits. One of the largest markets in France is held at Les Herrolles once a month.

The region also boasts the Futuroscope theme park close to Poitiers which is a great experience for all the family with IMAX theatre presentations, informative and fun features and exhibits and fireworks and fountain displays to end the day.

other days out include the Vallee de Signes where you walk through a woodland with monkeys in the trees and on the ground, Iles aux Serpents and Crocodile Planet.

After a hard day relaxing around the estate, playing sport or siteseeing in the local area the chateau provides everything you will need for enjoyable evenings with family or friends. The huge modern kitchen has everything you will need to prepare a special meal to be eaten in the formal dining room or for an outdoor meal on a long summers evening on the balcony.

The chateau room configuration has been adapted with families in mind. There are 5 bedrooms on each of the upper 2 floors. Each floor has 2 wings with 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom in each wing. There is a central bedroom on each floor with it's own en suite bathroom. All bedrooms have queen or king sized beds except for 2 twin rooms (one on each floor)
The ground floor has a TV room, hallway, dining room and fully modernised kitchen and the basement has a table tennis table and an informal kitchen that links to the outside terrace and pool.

Spacious chateau in a lovely setting.
The only thing which was not perfect was that the iron bedsteads were very creaky and not very comfortable. Everything else was great - spacious, good pool, tennis court and short, rough golf course!

A very quiet place with everything you need. Just enjoy your stay: a swimming-pool, a tennis court, golf, table tennis and.... nobody except the family. A peaceful week out of the world

Great place where everything had be thought of
We loved our stay and found the property owners had really thought about every need of the occupants, from the many many games on offer to the kitchen and its amenities, it was all very well thought out and a great place to stay with friends or family. Thank you very much.

Chateau La Jautrudon is outstanding
Our 2020 visit was delayed by Covid. During the intervening years Steve was most helpful and understanding. The chateau is indeed a marvel. Perhaps a fading elegance, but that suits our family perfectly. It is spaciously laid out even at full capacity, and all the extensive equipment caters for every sybaritic foible. The bathrooms are modern and ideal, and the kitchens provide ample facilities for the full household. Nicolas and Agnes came every day to service the pool and to clean and tidy the house, and the former was available 24/7 via his mobile. The gardener came regularly to tend the rose garden, which looks lovely, despite the hosepipe ban. She gave us tomatoes from the kitchen garden. The extensive grounds were a delight, and the boys loved the fitness stands on the circuit, and enjoyed competing with each other. We even picked enough blackberries for a delicious blackberry and apple pie. One of the dishwashers broke down, but Nicolas did his best to help. We did find a Michelin recommended caterer: Alban Galpin of Lucullus, Montmorillon, who delivered a celebratory feast to our specification. It turned out that Agnes would have been able to do this too, and she has a band of helpers to serve it up. The estate is children friendly - ours were 2 - 15 years old, so there is no need to even leave the site. Our thanks to Steve and Chateau La Jautrudon for a wonderful and memorable holiday.

Our family has always travelled in France and now that we all live across the globe from the USA to China and Australia we always make a point of getting together once a year and what better place than Chateau Jautrudon

Why they chose this property

Access to Chateau Jautrudon is easy whether by car, train (TGV from Paris) or air (airports at Limoges and Poitiers). The region is quiet and rural and has some of the prettiest villages in France but also has a huge range of activities to suit everyone in the family. We have vacationed in the region for the last 15 summers as a family, the last 10 at Chateau Jautrudon.
