Los Cocos Holbox - Charming Cabana on the Beach

Bedrooms 1
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Bungalow, 1 Bedroom, kitchen, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Los Cocos Holbox is a charming beachfront cabana for those of us who can't get enough of the beach and who love to experience those soft tropical sunsets.

The cabana was constructed in a grove of coconut trees as a traditional fisherman's cabana with a palapa roof. The cabana was recently restored and updated to provide guests with modern comforts and amenities, while retaining its authentic island feel. The best of both worlds!

When you wake up at Los Cocos Holbox, there's no need to go to the beach. You're already there! Step outside the door and your feet are in the sand. In the morning, you can watch the fishermen bring in the nightly catch as the seabirds wheel and dive. All day long, you can watch the hypnotic every-changing sea. And the evenings are punctuated by those incredible sunsets for which Isla Holbox is renowned.

The cabana is equipped with 2 bicycles and 2 kayakd for your free use. And, of course, you can hang hammocks from the coconut trees in front to enjoy your island home.

The cabana is cozy, comfortable, and suitable for one or two beach-loving adults. Inside, you'll find a bedroom with queen size bed, AC, kitchen, and bathroom. Easing the transition between the house and the paradise outside is a porch/sunroom with ocean views. Finally, there's a magical outside shower with overhanging seagrape trees.

Holbox's central square, where you'll find a variety of restaurants and grocery stores, is a short 5 minute walk from Los Cocos.

If you're interested, we can set up a personal transfer for your party direct from Cancun's airport -- or from anywhere on the Maya Riviera.

Our guests love us, and return!

All was great! Thanks for sharing your beautiful bungalow with us. Great location, closest private house to main core. The bikes and kayaks, bonus. Will definitely recommend this spot.

beyond perfect

The reviews do not do justice to the magic and perfection of Jame's amazing palapa. In the heart of Holbox, you still have a sense of privacy and space. The bed was super soft and the AC was a nice addition during the night. The enclosed porch with fan became our favorite place to enjoy the morning complete with fresh orange juice, tamales and eggs purchased from the nearby market. After 8 days, we couldn't imagine a better place for a couple or for a solo space to completely unwind. Susanna was also invaluable. Having someone who was a phone call away and who also came to check in on us and our needs was something I had not anticipated but added immensely to our comfort. The bikes made it possible to enjoy the entire island each day and the kayaks provided a great way to see the sunset every night. We will dream of Los Cocos and hope to one day return.

Paradise For Us

  • 5 of 5

Sweet place with everything we needed or wanted. The palapa, yard, and beach were most special and private. Simple and elegant. We even cooked! And Susanna was the perfect host. She helped us in many ways. Thank you!

Private paradise!

My husband and I spent a week at Los Cocos and loved it. James was easy to work with and very responsive. He arranged transportation for us to and from Cancun and we highly recommend doing this. Everything went so smoothly both trips. Once on Holbox, Susana was always available if needed. She stopped by each morning just to check in and gave us great dining recommendations. We particularly loved Le Jardin for delicious French pastries each morning, Taco Queto for cheap eats, and Milpa for fine dining. We also enjoyed meals at Rosa Mexicana. We spent each day reading in our "front yard" which is really fenced in beachfront. There are two comfortable padded lounge chairs and shade from the coconut palms. The water was calm and shallow for a long distance which made afternoon dips delightful. We also used the provided kayaks and bikes. Susana also arranged a fishing trip for us with Tanchi which was lots of fun and ended with fresh ceviche near Mosquito Point which was gorgeous. The palapa was clean and comfortable and the little kitchen was great for coffee in the morning and reheating leftovers for breakfast or lunch. Our only minor issues were the raccoons that came around each evening and hung around in the yard all night until sunrise. We got used to drowning out the sound with white noise until they managed to get on the roof two nights. My husband discovered that clanging pots and pans resolved that quickly. James and Susana have tried to prevent them from climbing up with various measures so are doing everything they can to prevent this. The only other minor issue was a sewage-like smell on a couple of days depending on which way the wind blew. We read about sewage backups in town the couple of weeks before we arrived and saw some sewage work happening in town. But Susana said that the smell we were experiencing on the shore was due to big piles of seaweed, etc on the beach. All in all these were both minor annoyances for an overall lovely relaxing week on Holbox. Thank you to James and Susana for your hospitality!

Loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful, relaxing time in Isla Holbox. Los Cocos was the perfect location. The weather wasn’t the greatest for a few days but it didn’t bother us. We curled up with a good book on the comfortable porch listening to the rain. Suzanna was great to get to know. The people on the island are pleasant and helpful. Good food, nice little fruit and veggie market, fun bike rides, long walks along the sandy beach...I have a feeling I will be back to Holbox someday!!

Cozy abode with some ethnic [Mexican!] suggestion. It was so much more wonderful than I'd imagined. The space of a secluded property right on the beach, the towering coconut trees, the clean environment, the porch area and the main living rooms, the outdoor shower, the use of bicycles &!!!! The management of the property was fluid and always more than friendly. The only drawback was the reading light which necessitated my head lamp.
