About Rudy Reiblein

This cottage has been a summer retreat for the Murphy Family for over 50 years. The kids spent their days boating in the river, playing on the sandbar and crabbing in the creek. The adults soaked up the sun, biked, swam, kayaked or shopped at the outlets.

Rudy Reiblein purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Rudy Reiblein chose Westbrook

Great location on the water and near the beach at a bargain price.

What makes this cottage unique

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I visit the New England area each year for relaxation and to see family. We truly scored with Rudy's great property with it's own little boardwalk out to the water. The home is very comfortable and very well furnished. One of my favorite rooms was the bright, sun room and we were able to enjoy end of October temps into the 70s. We highly recommend this place and hope to return again.

Beautiful summer home by the Sound

  • 5 of 5

We took great pleasure in living in this home for several days. All that we needed was there: a fully equipped kitchen (including coffee & condiments), a great bed, a good shower, generous good towels & linens, beautiful comfortable open living space indoors and and out. The beach is a short walk. Easy grocery and dining options nearby. Excellent and timely communication with Rudy, one of the owners. It was easy to book, pay and communicate about access. A delightful VRBO experience! Thank you

Great location with terrific views! The cottage was very comfortable with lots of room!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the river and Long Island Sound. There were lots of great spaces inside and out to take in the picturesque views from the beautiful outdoor deck, the bright sun room, to the comfy chairs in front of the sliders. The owners provided many things to make our stay more fun such as binoculars, kayaks, and beach chairs! The owners were also very communicative and very helpful with information to help our stay go smoothly. Having the private beach only a short walk away was very nice and a highlight of our stay! We would definitely consider another get away to this lovely cottage!

Homey with great views of the Marina and Long Island Sound

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I were originally from the area and always loved the beach in September. This cottage with amazing views is not a "sterile" empty beach house, but a home-like sanctuary that one can tell had been filled with the love of family. It added so much personal enjoyment to our stay. The cottage had been updated with interior open space and a beautiful tiered deck on back, perfect for family gathering. There are just a few things left in the house to remind us of gentler times to make us smile.

Isn't that what we look for- a place to relax and smile.

A Blissful Experience, A Peaceful Stay

  • 5 of 5

Such a beautiful and distinguished home, with decor and exquisiteness true to its surroundings and history. An elegant, yet simple floor layout with picturesque views of the Menunketesuck River in your backyard - or rather your front yard!

While we had some things planned for the week, we quickly found ourselves neglecting to leave the property - it was just too relaxing to be elsewhere or running around all day. There's a sense of peace about this home, a raw beauty that allows oneself to just let go and really enjoy the moments from watching the boats in the marina to observing the habitat of birds from Osprey and Egress to Hummingbirds. For the first time, I can truly say that we vacationed by relaxation and not by filling our days with busyness and running from one place to the next.

Our 2 daughters (mid-teens) had a wonderful experience as well. We Kayaked up and down the river with the provided kayaks, visited the private beach which is just a 2 minute walk down the street and they too, took in some well needed downtime. The sunroom is a beautiful little room to catch up with reading, taking a nap, playing games, or just simply being. The deck is a wonderful outdoor space to spend time with your family while taking in the sights and sounds while the dock is also a nice little getaway, my wife and I found ourselves grabbing chairs, a bottle of wine, walking down to the dock and catching some sun during the day and watching the stars at night.

Rudy and Diane have thought of everything from a fully stocked Kitchen to board games and linens and more. So we over packed somewhat not expecting many of the available amenities that were provided. It was a pleasure grilling and cooking at the house. I'd like to thank you both for your hospitality as well as sharing your wonderful house with us!
