AMENITIES of the log house and property: see below

LOCAL AREA: see below; and owner's family updated and tested recommendations sent to all guests before arrival.

PAYMENT: credit card via Paypal - super easy, or personal check, as well as via the vrbo.com bookings.

Log House amenities: A well-designed, cozy log house on almost two private acres of lawn and woods. Spacious Kiwi Lodge kitchen has many appliances; 2 blenders, 2 coffee makers, mixer, waffle iron, toaster, microwave, all types of cookware. Many pantry items: flour, sugar, oil, rice, condiments, spices, tea, coffee - for your convenience. Pick fresh herbs from the garden in front of ramp to enhance home-cooked meals. The solid wood hand-made dining table overlooks the lake, easily seats 8 guests but we usually prefer the lovely wood picnic table on the deck for meals. Watch the duck families swimming by at breakfast, look for beavers going fishing as you eat dinner.

On upper level, there is one king bed room and a second bedroom with queen and full size beds, plus full bathroom. On the lower, garden level there is a family room and the third bedroom with double/twin bunk bed. All beds are Maine artisan-made with top-of-the-line mattresses and quality bedding.

The open plan main level has a second full bathroom as well as living room and kitchen with a large dining area overlooking the lake.

On the garden level, beyond the sliding doors to the lawn are the hot tub, volleyball/badminton/pickle ball net, horseshoes, croquet, 55' dock and swim raft anchored in lake. Our fleet currently includes a paddleboat, large canoe and two individual hard-sided kayaks. Life jackets in all sizes are in the bin on the garden level patio, right behind the Mexican style hammock.

Living room and family room have large, flat screen TVs with DVD; Internet/WiFi, cable, Roku, X-Box Kinect, Wii (bring your own games), free calls in US from landline ‘phone. There are many board games, movies, books, cards, CD player.

Available for your use are washer, dryer, vacuum cleaner, hand vacuum; cleaning supplies, dishwasher soap, and generous initial supplies of paper goods.

Linens and towels are supplied. Please bring your own swim/hot tub towels.

On the deck are a gas/charcoal grill, picnic table and Adirondack chairs.

Local Area: Kiwi Lodge is on a small, secret lake in Western Maine; a few minutes from the charming university town of Farmington: shopping, restaurants, movies, golf courses, wonderful hiking, and great lobster, of course! We provide lots of recommendations for what to do, where to go, where to eat. The coast is not far away with the lighthouse near Portland echoing with history, world class restaurants and fun shops. Nearer at hand are a host of delightful small towns, each with their treasures of history and culture. We tell you about our favorites before you arrive, to help you plan.Take one of the easy day trips to the delectable restaurants of Portland, plus lighthouses, observatory; outlet shopping in Freeport; hiking up Bald Mountain (hike is 3.5 miles R/T) near Rangeley, and so many other hikes including a short, super-easy walk in the woods, half an hour away, manageable for even small children; a boat trip on Moosehead Lake in Greenville: Western Maine opportunities for recreation are endless. Drive further north at dawn or dusk to see deer or moose; once we saw a small bear cross the road.

The lake at Kiwi Lodge: You will hear loons, ducks, bullfrogs (in June especially); you may see beavers, muskrats (usually swimming across the lake at dusk) and turtles; bald eagles often hover. The fish come so daringly close to the lake edge, their dorsal fins are above water. Guests fish off the end of the dock. Birds wake early; porcupines stroll the roads at midnight.

Contact us; peak summer weeks are almost full but there is always a wonderful Maine fall season to enjoy.

Notes:
The property is almost two acres; the house is surrounded by a wide lawn on all sides that slopes gradually towards more than 100 feet of lakefront. There are no neighbors on one side, and a thick screen of pines, birch, oak, ash, maple and other trees give complete privacy on the other side. Lake is in front, and another screen of trees is between lawn and road. The new 55 foot dock is four feet wide, opening out to an octagonal area that has space for seating while you are surrounded by water. This is a green oasis in summer; in fall the colors of the leaves are glorious, a wall of brilliant yellow, red, scarlet, spreading up the hills from the lake.
