About Liz Collins
I am an artist living in northern California, and have made a living with my art for over 30 years. I have always been inspired by different and exotic areas of the world. This jungle retreat had been a dream for me for many years. I come to the jungle retreat to write and do my art. I also lead art retreats there each spring.
Liz Collins purchased this House in 2007
Why Liz Collins chose Sayulita
I LOVE the jungle with a passion, and real jungle is hard to find. Since I also love Sayulita and visted it for many years prior, when this place opened up it was literally (literally) my dream that came to life. It is thankfully removed from town just enough to get away during those busy times of year, but easy to walk to on a beautiful jungle road. Also, since it is in an enclave of 5 other Balinese houses, you do not feel too "out there" with no one else around. The beach that it is near feels like our own private beach, and honestly, it is one of the nicest in Sayulita (it is a secret!)
What makes this House unique
Bird watching! If you have ANY desire, this is the place if you get up by oh, say around 8:00-9:00. A birder I know said they saw more birds here in one sitting than any where else they'd been in the world! Prior to owning Jungle Retreat, I would not have considered myself a "birder" but I can probably say now I would. Also, the quiet. At night you can hear the waves usually, and in the evenings to sit on the comfortable patio with chips and salsa listening to the "guard " of day switching to night you feel like you never need to leave...
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Loved the jungle retreat
We loved the beautiful casa and the jungle surrounding it. The beach was beautiful and often deserted except for the friendly beach dog who all ways seemed to be there. The walk into Sayulita only took 25 minutes and then we would cab back. It was a very different experience then staying in a hotel and we really enjoyed it.
Thank you Patti--I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself. It is true, it is a very different experience than a hotel. This is why we too love it here. We welcome you back any time and hope you will think of us again in the future!
Words can't describe how my friends and I enjoyed Villa Bali #3. The calm of the place, the easy access to a secluded beach and the 10 minute drive in pure jungle are some of the reasons why the Jungle Retreat is a perfect place for the mind...
Thank you so much for your nice review. We agree! We love our little jungle paradise. We’re so glad you had a nice time and hope you’ll visit again sometime.
Unique housing in a beautiful jungle setting
What a pleasure to be in this Balinese style house, with a great long deck to live on as you listen to the chorus and bird watch in the thick rain forest, or relax to the amazing insect sounds at night. It made me nostalgic for the years I was in Bali. The place is set up with love, very aesthetic, clean and charming.
Nature lovers who like walking and want to be near a charming town full of color, good food and fun--this is for you. We bought food from home and also stopped at the big Mercado on the way from the airport, and enjoyed making several meals a day in the kitchen with doors that open onto a patio. The garden and house were so clean, I only worried if they use round up or pesticides. The owner and her caretaker were responsive and nice.
The master bed is lovely, but you have to watch your head getting in and out of the Bali bed which would be much better if set up away from the fridge, and the third mattress is quite hard. Other than that, its a treat and a blessing to stay in a place so lovely.
We love it!!!
We had a great time at Villa Bali #3. The house in the jungle was the perfect place for our holiday. This is a place we want to go back.
I’m so glad you loved our place. So do we! And we would love for you to return!
A great experience in the jungle just minutes to a private beach.
A unique and lovely place
Liz's "Jungle Retreat" is just that. Nestled in the jungle canopy, with a fabulous soundscape from all the jungle wildlife, is a little community of south-Asian homes imported plank by plank from Bali. Totally unexpected, wonderfully unique, Liz's house is a mix of Asian and Mexican influences enhanced by her own exuberant artwork. We just loved our stay there.
The nearby beach, Patzcuarito, is heavenly and, in our experience, nearly deserted except for a couple local dogs who were happy to play with us in the surf. We enjoyed Patzcuarito far more than the bigger and busier Sayulita beaches.
Back at the house, you can expect the land crabs to join you on the patio and, if you're not looking, even inside the house. They're cool, harmless and amusing little creatures and our kids thoroughly enjoyed following them around the property. The house itself is absolutely clean, tidy and comfortable for hanging out.
A really great find, and we'd highly recommend it.
Thank you Erika. I'm glad you loved our little piece of paradise. And I love that you found humor in the land crabs. So do I! (they are only there in the wet months--June-October)
We are about 1.3 miles south of town on a lovely jungle road ( rough dirt road in the summer rainy months!) We are about a 7-10 minute walk to a beautiful, secluded beach. Beautiful jungle walks, spectacular bird watching right from the patio
