About Elsie Mae Clements
We purchased Abigail House over fifteen years ago as a vacation home for our family. We were captivated by the convenient location and old-world charm of this lovely cottage and have carefully updated it to preserve that cozy, welcoming feel. As our children grew up, we spent many wonderful summers relaxing in the beautiful gardens, hosting family gatherings and celebrations and delighting in all that Niagara has to offer. Now, we feel the time has come to open our vacation home to guests, so that other families and visitors can enjoy the same wonderful experiences and happy memories that our family has cherished over the years.
Why Elsie Mae Clements chose Historic Old Town
Abigail House is the ideal home base for exploring the beauty and unique attractions of the Niagara region. Shopping, fine dining, the Shaw Festival Theatre (and a grocery store!) are all just a 2 minute walk from the house. You’ll feel the world slow down as you leave traffic jams behind and stroll along our flower-filled street into the quaint and historic downtown. If you’re in the mood for even more relaxation, treat yourself to an afternoon of pampered bliss at one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s many spas. When you’re feeling more ambitious, plan a tour Niagara’s world-famous wineries and colourful farmers markets, where delicious local food, wine and entertainment are always on offer. Niagara Falls is also a short drive away, with its breathtaking views, family adventures and exciting nightlife. Don’t forget to book a Whirlpool Jet Boat tour of the rapids – it’s a thrilling experience! Golf lovers can enjoy a round on North America’s oldest golf course, right on the banks of Lake Ontario. And history buffs will love the fact that Abigail House is a historically significant century-old schoolhouse. From here you can explore Fort George and the military museum or take a nostalgic carriage ride into picturesque Old Town. There’s so much to do in the Niagara Region that you’ll be back again before you know it! Abigail House offers something for everyone. Available for short or long-term stays, you’re welcome to stay for a week (or more!) or just come for a weekend of rest and relaxation. Our doors are always open for you!

Disappointed with kitchen appliances. Also, bed linen
and towels in bathrooms could be replaced with new
Hi Josh, thanks for providing your feedback. Unfortunately towels and linens get a lot of wear and tear but we will be replacing those soon. We do hope that you consider coming back again. -Jason
Great location for notl
Rental process was easy and no issues
Great house for families. Parking is limited to two cars only. I wasn’t happy about the online fee
Very close walking distance to downtown.
Thanks for the feedback. It is a great house but unfortunately there is only room for 2 cars. I'm assuming the online fee you're referring to VRBO's booking fee, which unfortunately most booking sites do charge guests as well as us a booking fee.
So pleased the home was squeaky clean!
We have allergies. No one had any issues!! Beds were really comfortable!
Kitchen was well stocked!! Coffee packets and tea bags were a welcome surprise! Cozy front porch. Well manicured grounds. Excellent location!!
The only suggestion I have is to upgrade the bath towels to a more luxurious standard to match the excellent quality of the bedding. The quantity of towels was excellent. If it should be required, a washer & dryer is located in the basement at no extra charge. Thank you for sharing your lovely home!
Thanks for the feedback. We'll take a look at the towels and see about updating them.
NOL stay at Abigail House
Quiet, comfortable, well supplied home. Very timely response to a few concerns. Wifi unreliable half the time. Beds extremely comfortable. Thermostat a challenge to program.
Thanks for the feedback. We will be sure to provide more instructions for the WiFi and the thermostat.
“Wild” Bridge Getaway!
Abigail House is a great location for a “wild” weekend away for 4 “mature” ladies. Privacy, quiet, lots of wine glasses and a good bridge table.
Abigail House is the best location for the people who like to park their cars and walk, hike or bike!
Located in the historic old town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. One minute walk to Queen Street, the main shopping, theatre and dining area!. Three minute walk to the shore of the Niagara River where it flows into Lake Ontario. Watch the sunsets from the landmark gazebo!
This is a family friendly location because parks are close with playgrounds, swimming pool, tennis courts and the military museum with the self interpretive walking trail through the historic Commons.
