About Peter Maltby
Why we chose the West Coast of Vancouver Island: 35 years ago when our children were young we decided to venture to the west coast of Vancouver Island to enjoy the Pacific Rim National Park, the ocean wildlife, and rain forest. We camped for an extended period of time and fell in love with our surroundings. We meandered through life venturing to many other parts of the world, but to this day the west coast of Vancouver Island is our favorite. In 1999 we bought this property between Tofino and Ucluelet on an inlet where we could enjoy nature, weather and our own peace and solitude. Since that time we have renewed the property and made it into a duplex where, we along with our son's family, can share / pass time in this beautiful pristine setting.
Why Peter Maltby chose Ucluelet
The Unique benefits of this home: We have enjoyed the beauty of the inlet and the surrounding mountains, rain forest, scenery, hiking trails, proximity to Tofino and Ucluelet, sand and surf, and the peace this environment brings. You can sit on the deck and watch the birds around you, enjoy the winter storms, and travel the many trails in this wonderful part of the west coast. There is no place like it. Inside it’s warm and cosy with all the necessities for comfortable living, even so far as plumbing on all floors. One can enjoy the winter storms from the warm protected environment of “the Inlet”. It is rare that we have an opportunity to experience nature in such a magnificent way.
What makes this Cottage unique
Other Possibilities: When our two families decided to convert the original house into a duplex, we saw the potential to bring family and friends together in one place. Two families or close-knit groups could come together and enjoy the wonder of this place. Time seems to stand still, no pressures from normal, every day stress. It is a different kind of “lost world”. One you will want to experience.

Had a great time in Ukkie! The property was spotless and very comfortable. Highly recommend
Good location well equipped well maintained clean comfortable and peaceful. Place is Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues as the bedrooms are upstairs and downstairs- suggest the owner states this in the information. I am not referring to wheelchair accessible.
Wonderful Location and hospitality
Well kept and very clean; modern home with beautiful view. Quiet and easy access to local attractions. Couldn't ask for anything nicer. Owner was attentive to our needs. Recommend highly.
Lovely house by the water
Everything was exactly as we saw it on the listing. The 4 of us loved being there and were easily able to cook and visit as well as travel to the park and Tofino. Great place
Wonderful property, great for families.
We stayed at this property in May 2019 with our three children (3, 5 and 8) and were extremely pleased with our time there. It's a beautiful spot, there was plenty of room for all of us, and it felt like a home away from home. The kitchen was outfitted with everything we needed (many places provide only basic kitchenware), and there are many delightful personal touches throughout the property, making it feel very homey!
The property is well-positioned to explore the Ucluelet and Tofino areas, which we definitely did, and there is much to do and see right in the area around the property. It is not "walkable" in the sense of being able to pop to the store, eatery or beach on foot, but that was not an issue for us. Also, while all the windows are fantastic, none of the rooms get very dark at this time of year (only privacy blinds where there are blinds at all), so if you have children that need to nap or go to bed early, you might want to consider this. However, that is by no means a reason no to stay here! We have young children and managed fine.
We loved bird-watching from the balcony and would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Breathe deeply and Enjoy
This home is in a “normal”, relatively private, family neighbourhood, with a spectacular view of the Inlet (both from the living room and the deck) and its tides and bird population ( including eagles and stellar jays and many water and shore birds). The air is ocean fresh and you can hear the sea lions in Uclulet harbour barking.
The layout of the home is great and the kitchen well- equipped. The beds are fantastic as are the bathrooms ( the view from the upstairs bathroom is remarkable).
It is well situated for easy access to the famous walking trails and beaches of Uclulet/Tofino.
Storm watching, Whale watching tours, Beach Combing, Hot Spring Tours, View Sea Life at Low Tide. PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROPERTY IS A SIDE BY SIDE DUPLEX AND MAY BE RENTED WITH VRBO 308807.
DON'T FORGET, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER ARE STORM WATCHING MONTHS. TO SIT IN FRONT OF THE FIRE AND EXPERIENCE THE HEAVY WINDS AND RAIN IS A VERY COZY EXPERIENCE.
