About Karen Robinson

After working several years as a 911 Operator and Dispatcher with the RCMP, I have decided to focus my attention on my vacation rentals, traveling, and improving my foreign language skills. I love meeting people from around the world and enjoy the opportunity to learn a new language. I currently speak (beginner) Italian and Japanese. I am passionate about ballroom and latin dancing here in the Comox Valley. My lovable black lab keeps me motivated to swim at the beach, hike the woods and our favourite past time, snow shoe on Mount Washington.

Karen Robinson purchased this townhome in 2011

Why Karen Robinson chose Comox

The Perch on Birch is located on one of my favourite avenues in Comox. With the Comox Golf Course at the end of the road leading to a lovely pathway and the many fauna that make Birch Ave their home, it is somewhat of a haven. I have always made a point of passing by this property on my walks since 2003, each time thinking it would make a great rental property. When the property came up for sale in 2011, I did not hesitate to purchase it. After much hard work, my dream to turn two of the units into beautiful vacation rentals was realized. The gardens are now looking beautiful as I continue to transform this once neglected property into a lovely Comox gem.

What makes this townhome unique

Although Comox Vallley is not a large city, it boasts some of the finest restaurants offering many delicious cuisines. Having several of these restaurants in walking distance makes for a wonderful outing while staying at The Perch on Birch.

The Comox Airforce Base is used for a training base by the famous Snowbirds every April. Some of their incredible patterns can be viewed right from the rental property. This is the perfect place to stay during Vancouver Island Music Festival held every July as you are steps away from the bus stop and a few minutes drive to the shuttle bus parking lot.

The annual Filberg Festival and Comox Nautical Days held every August long weekend (BC Day) are just a few blocks away. This makes it ideal for guests to enjoy the festivities in a carefree manner without the hassle of parking a vehicle.

Cute and cozy

  • 5 of 5

This is a small but cozy apartment that feels like a welcoming cottage in a quiet, residential area. The bed is comfy, plenty of towels, etc. along with a couple of soft house coats. Washer and dryer within the unit and all the kitchen supplies that you'll need. Kitchen appliances include toaster, a small magic bullet blender, slow cooker, pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, etc. Kitchen is also supplied with a few spices, coffee, tea, plastic wrap, baggies, foil and containers for leftovers.

Location is great -- just a short walk to downtown shopping, restaurants, grocery stores and most importantly, the ocean. Wifi and a parking space is also provided. We had an enjoyable six night stay and will definitely stay again.

A Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the privacy, the cleanliness and all the little attentions to detail. A bottle of wine and flowers on the table were most welcoming. Karen so friendly and helpful. It was a quiet but convenient location to shops and restaurants-also wooded park areas to say nothing of walking the harbour boardwalk. We will definitely return!

Lovely cottage in Comox!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful well-equipped one bedroom with everything you could possibly want! Host Karen even offered us chard from her garden. Minutes from town and the waterfront, the town is filled with wandering deer...we saw five, including one right in the centre of downtown.

The queen size bed is very comfortable as is the pullout couch in the living room. Comox is a beautiful central spot to enjoy this area and Campbell River and the Perch on Birch is a great place to come and relax at the end of your day.

The Perch on Birch is a perfect little home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

The Perch on Birch is an amazing little gem. Our family had a wonderful time staying in Comox. We will definitely be back. I would recommend this cute little house to anyone visiting the Comox Valley. Karen was an excellent host to our family. She was willing to help us with fun adventures for our family to see and do while we were staying. She makes it feel like a home away from home. Can't wait to return. My husband is already planning our next visit.
