A Bit of History
ELK HILL is an early 19th Century registered historic landmark farm and residence. At one time the estate was 22,000 acres and included the Big Survey known today as Wintergreen Resort. The Farm Manager House located across the road from ELK HILL is part of the Rockfish Valley Farm. It was built in 1945 and expanded in the 1970s. It was constructed by Arthur T Ewing Jr. the oldest son of A T Ewing who raised 6 children with his wife Nannie Noble Coleman Ewing at ELK Hill. Arthur Ewing managed over 10,000 apple trees at Elk Hill and later ran a beef cattle operation. The house was subsequently sold to Uel Gardner, the first snow maker at Wintergreen. Uel was also well known for his herd of belted Galloway cattle which grazed the farm. In 1993, Uel and Sandy Gardner sold the farm to the Holcomb’s who ran an organic farm. They sold the farm in 2005 to the present owners, Betsy and Peter Agelasto. In 2005 the owner put the farm into conservation easements and created the hiking and birding trails.

Great Location
Hubby and I love Bold Rock and Devils Backbone, the home is a rocks throw from either. We loved the home and found it very peaceful. We will stay here again. Plenty of rooms for a large group.
