Four Fifty Five Nelson Avenue was built Circa 1892 by a descendant of George Chisholm Sr, a Captain in the 2nd regiment in the war of 1812 who owned a large tract of land from the escarpment to Burlington Bay. Charles Chisholm and Martha Fonger and their sons David and Norman, inhabited this home for decades, with David an employee of the Town of Burlington in the waterworks department.

This dwelling is a good example, in excellent condition, of the Victorian summer cottage prevalent in the community at that time. It retains most of its original features, which include the shiplap wood siding on the lower portion, the windows and trim, the doors and the delicate 'gingerbread' bargeboard.

This house is a major contributor to the street-scape of the Nelson Avenue Block, just north of the Burlington Art Center on Nelson avenue. This Heritage Home retains much of its charm from its early days, and has been updated to reflect more modern living. The professionally landscaped yard with mature Black Walnut and Cedar trees provide a cottage like setting in an urban location steps to the lake and across from quaint Brock Park.
