About Chip and Joelyn Hilton

We love being able to unwind in the quiet and spaciousness of our desert surroundings. We moved into our house about thirteen years ago and built the separate studio on our one-acre property a few years later.

The studio includes a pottery, where Chip, the owner, can be found most days, making tiles, cups, bowls and other cool stuff.

Chip and Joelyn Hilton purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Chip and Joelyn Hilton chose Mesa

Chip is a ceramic tile and pottery artist. When his projects started getting too big, we realized we needed more space, so we moved out to east Mesa, where we had the room to build an art studio. The added bonus is that it's also close to hiking, mountain biking, and the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Part of the art studio has been converted to the vacation rental, complete with it's own entrance, patio, and upper deck.

What makes this cottage unique

We’re close to nature, but also within a few minutes to food shopping, coffee shops, convenience stores, and gas. Close freeway access takes you to malls, movie theatres, hospitals, public transportation, and the airport.

Free Culture Passes available at the local library: http://www.mesalibrary.org/find/culture-passes- first come/first served. Let us know ahead of time and we'll see if we can get them!

We have hiking sticks made from saguaro ribs that you can use, as well as water bottles and fanny packs. If Chip, the owner, is throwing pottery during your stay, you can watch or maybe even join him! You can see some of his work on his website at chivesta.com.

Absolutely perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Great place to recharge our batteries out of the hubbub! Wish we’d had more time and a little warmer weather to just BE. The accommodations were perfect—we wanted for nothing—and the hosts were friendly and welcoming. Wish we could stay another week!

The rooftop patio was such a plus at the edge of the city! Property owners are so friendly and helpful. A great break from a delayed Spring in MN!

Had a fabulous stay during March, thoroughly enjoyed the area and accommodation. Loved having breakfast each morning on the rooftop deck and enjoying the sunset each evening. We highly recommend staying with Chip and Joelyn!

A lovely stay in an artsy, comfortable studio

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our four day stay in Joelyn and Chip's artsy studio! The studio is very appealing with it's interior design and furnishings -- created by both of them. The studio had everything we needed, a good, safe location, comfy bed, kitchen necessities including a refrigerator with eggs and muffins, a closet with plenty of hangers, a beautiful shower, and a delicious dark chocolate bar! We got to tour Chip's art studio and appreciate more of his artistic skills. Joelyn and Chip are wonderful hosts !

Great Location for Hiking and Wonderful Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying in this wonderful rental since 2011. We love the location for hiking in the Superstition Mountains and the Goldfield Mountains. You have a great view of the Supersition Mountains from the unit, including from the bed! We love the desert surroundings. It feels so peaceful outside, and when it's warm enough, we love to eat at the table outside and enjoy the rooftop deck, which has amazing views. The rental is small, it's a studio, but the bed is super comfortable and it has what you need. There is a mini-fridge and a hot plate, so it's not a full kitchen, just so you know. We tend to go out to eat for dinners or bring take-out in. We love seeing Chip and Joelyn, who have become our friends over the years. Highly recommend!
