About this property

Couchiching Family Escape

This four bedroom two bathroom cottage is a wonderful place to relax and take a break from the city. Located an hour and a half north of Toronto and on the east shore of Lake Couchiching it is easy to work from the cottage and commute back to the city as necessary.

The property is located close to the Community of Washago and Centennial Park where there is a boat launch. We have a long dock that can accommodate a typical 18’ powerboat with 4’ depth. Built into the dock is a 20’ square sundeck with swim stairs and at the waters edge there is a little sand beach area. Also at cottage level there is a deck with a gazebo, table, chairs and propane BBQ, that provides for easy outdoor dining.

The home has a beautiful heated sunroom and dining area facing west across the lake. The room is fully windowed and provides a 180 degree view of Lake Couchiching. There can often times be beautiful sunsets on the lake.

Lake Couchiching is a popular destination in summer for water-sports and anglers, and hosts the Orillia Perch Festival in the spring and CFSL Bass Tournament in the summer.
It's a twenty minute drive to the towns of Gravenhurst and Orillia or fifteen minutes to the entertainment at Casino Rama. Boats are available for rent for anyone wishing to fish the lake or travel the Severn waterway through the locks towards Georgian Bay.

Minimum stay during the summer months is seven nights, Friday to Friday.

Thanksgiving at the Cottage
We wanted to try something a little different this year for our family Thanksgiving get together. Renting the cottage turned out to be an excellent weekend getaway with our extended family (9 of us) The cottage itself' is very well equipped, very clean, with comfortable beds. The picture of the sunroom/3 season room does not do it justice. This space is very bright, spacious and affords terrific views of the water and beautiful sunsets. The property itself is as well maintained as the inside. Oak Point Rd is a lovely quiet dead end road lined with beautiful trees and quaint cottages. Perfect for walking! We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to returning next year.

Fall in Canada
We recently traveled from Southern California to spend a few days in the Toronto area and decided to travel up to Lake Couchiching and we are so glad that we did. Our stay here was perfect! We sat out in the sunroom every evening with a glass of wine and every morning with a cup of Tim Horton's coffee (wish we had it in So. Calif.) to enjoy the beauty all around us - Fall colors, beautiful water, Canadian geese, not to mention their beautiful, comfortable home. We all had large comfortable beds to sleep in (and that doesn't always happen) and we had everything at our finger tips. We traveled to small towns such as Bala and continued our Fall Color experience, along with antique hunting. We would highly recommend staying here and we hope to come back. My husband had hoped to fish right from the dock, but the water is shallow, so he had to seek other spots for fishing....But the fishing was very good...Water, water everywhere!

We live in Toronto in the Danforth Riverdale area. We love to spend weekends at the cottage, skiing in the winter and fishing in the summer and hanging out on the dock. We are still working and raising our family and over the summer we only have a couple of weeks available to enjoy the cottage. So when we can't be there we like to make it available for others to enjoy.

Why they chose this property

We have been cottaging in this area for many years and enjoy that there are lots of local attractions to keep us busy year round. Our cottage is rented mostly by families on summer vacation or small groups looking for a peaceful retreat. This would not be a good party house.

What makes this property unique

The cottage sits right on the edge of the water and the sunroom offers a 160 degree view of Lake Couchiching. The dock is unique as it extends over 60' off the shore over Canadian shield rock, but has a large seating area that receives the sun early and lasts throughout the day. It's a great place to relax.
