The Grey Heron House offers plenty of opportunity to relax. Sink into the soft leather furniture and watch TV or a movie on the four large HD TVs. For the quieter times, enjoy an evening by the fire of the wood burning fireplace. The terrace level features a pool table, wet bar, second refrigerator, and a seven person hot tub just outside on the deck.

Guests are welcome to use all areas including our 16 acres, quarter mile of river frontage, swimming pool and walking trails.

We live near by and can provide assistance as needed.

The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful, and we expect all guests to respect reasonable noise standards. Special note: since this cabin is directly facing the river with large decks on two levels it is CRITICAL for all guests to understand and comply with noise standards. If neighbors across the river or at the cabin next door can hear you, your music, crying children, barking dogs, etc. it is too loud. We are very serious about enforcing this.

The roads are suitable for most any vehicle and is also motorcycle friendly.

The property is secluded but less than four miles from downtown Blue Ridge. The roads are easily navigated.

FIREWOOD. 17 acres of downed and dead wood is provided. Feel free to bring your axe and saw and use caution. We can also provide the split and stacked kind for a fee. Here are a few options:

1. Small stack of 20 pieces. You pick up: $15. We maintain a centrally located spot on the property with stacks of firewood for easy access. We generally operate on the honor system, but we do monitor the area with cameras. Just let us know how many stacks you'd like and we can direct you from there.
2. Medium stack of 30 pieces. We deliver and set up with Firestarter, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate for 14 guests: $60. Let us know when you'd like the fire laid, and provide a minimum of 24 hours notice.
3. Large group fire options. We are wood fire connoisseurs who have had a wood stove fire nearly every night during Winter for the past 40 years. We can provide whatever you want, just ask.
ALL PETS MUST BE PRE-APPROVED.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BRINGING MY DOG?
Current rabies tag.
Current flea medication such as Frontline, Advantage, etc.
Totally comfortable in a strange environment by itself, or crated when alone.
Non-barking, except briefly when excited (do NOT leave a barking dog alone).
If aggressive at all, dog must be leashed at all times.
Will not scratch/chew doors, floors, and furniture.
Owner agrees to THOROUGHLY clean the dog after river swimming prior to entering cabin.
Owner agrees to clean up all pet waste and be responsible for all damage.
Owner agrees to pay a fee of $25 per night per pet, plus tax (longer term discounts may apply).

NOISE LEVELS
Guest agrees to abide by reasonable noise standards, and agrees not to disturb other neighbors. 10PM is considered the beginning of overnight quiet hours. Guest further understands that due to the property's unique location along the Toccoa River valley, noise travels long distances (low noises can travel a half mile and loud conversations can travel two miles). There are a dozen owner occupied cabins within a two mile radius and even though they are not visible, the owners are sensitive to loud noises, especially at night.

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF GUESTS
The person making the reservation personally guarantees the maximum number of guests associated with the booking, and agrees to an additional fee of $500 per each unauthorized guest.

How do we check in?
Most properties have electronic locks or keypads and we will provide the code seven days in advance. If you do not receive an automatic email from us within seven days, please email (toccoahouse@gmail.com), call or text us at 706.633.0141

Smoking
No smoking is allowed inside cabin. All smoking material must be deposited in ashtrays provided at the balconies and decks. If you prefer to leave butts in the firepit or grounds a $5 per piece fee will be charged.

What is provided?
Bed linens, towels, starter rolls of toilet paper and paper towels.
Trash bags for inside trash cans and outside trash cans
Dish washing detergent for dishwashers and dish washing soap for hand washing dishes
Hand washing soap in the kitchen and each bathroom
Propane gas to gas grills (all grills are connected to their large house tank).

What do you recommend bringing with us?
Sturdy shoes for walking/hiking/wading
First Aid Kit and all needed medications
Bathing suit, beach towels, sunscreen
Long handled lighters for lighting fires, grills, etc.
Aluminum and plastic wraps, ziplock bags, etc. for storing leftovers
Flashlights
Laundry detergent if you intend to wash clothes
Frisbees/discs for the disc golf course
Corn hole bags for the corn hole boards

Do we need to bring our own firewood or can we purchase it there?
There are many local providers from whom you can purchase firewood. You can also bring your own, or you are welcome to use downed, dead wood on our 16-acre property.

Great time
We thoroughly loved your cabin. Very clean and everything we needed provided. The neighborhood was beautiful, quite and perfect. The only thing was the walk to the river, steep and not able to be done by some family members. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend. Thanks for the great time! David and Cathy Stein

Perfect Retreat
This was the perfect getaway! I almost hate to comment, because more visitors may mean it may not be available next time we want it! ;) The drive was easy...located only a few minutes from the highway, the roads were easily accessible, comfortable to drive/ride and the driveway was easy to navigate; mostly paved, flat area for parking. The cabin itself was very clean. Well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. The layout was perfect for multiple families with mulitiple age groups. Large screen porch! Two dishwashers! Multiple porches allow the scenery to be enjoyed from every angle! The adventurous visitors can take the path down to the water. However, the 3 minute drive gets you to the parking area for the river so easily. The riverfront area is perfect for children, fishermen and families! Can't say enough good things about this cabin

Roomy and comfortable house
From check in to check out we had a great experience. The house was comfortable for eight adults and six teens to eat, watch the football game, and hang out on the main level deck with a large dining table (sits 10). There’s also a large dining room table and chairs on the main level, next to the kitchen. Ten family members went on the Blue Ridge train ride, then came back to the cabin to celebrate a 21st birthday. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and prepare the dinner. The kids played pool and watched the football game downstairs, while the rest gathered on the main level to watch the football game. Ten people had to get back to Atlanta, so only four of us stayed at the cabin overnight, so needless to say we had plenty of room. The cabin was close to the Long Branch hiking trail, and we also went to Mercier Orchard. Both very close to the cabin, and also close to the town of Blue Ridge. We had a great stay, and hope to come back!

Thanksgiving Away
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Grey Heron House and found it more spacious and beautiful than the listing portrayed. It was the perfect place to begin a new family tradition following the loss of my grandmother. The college kiddos had plenty to do with the hot tub, disc golf, trails, games, and pool table. Thank you for a perfect holiday get away!

About the host

Hosted by Greg Spencer

Host profile image
Oregonian Greg Spencer initially discovered the Blue Ridge area on a backpacking trip to the Cohutta Wilderness in the 1980’s. A short time later, enamored of the area, and the incredible recreational opportunities, Greg began to explore the potential for purchasing raw mountain land, and developing uniquely designed and hand-crafted cabins, taking full advantage of stunning views and a quarter mile of Toccoa River frontage.

Why they chose this property

Amazed by the beauty of the Toccoa River and the inspiring views of the surrounding mountains, Greg wasted no time in securing what is now known as the Toccoa House Properties. During the 1990’s Greg built a small cabin, The Riverside Cabin, on the Toccoa River, and envisioned a larger house that he later built on the ridge above: The Toccoa House, completed in 2000. Next came The Carriage House in 2002, and the in-ground, seasonally heated swimming pool in 2007. The Grey Heron House, was completed in late 2007.

What makes this property unique

Since our 17 acre property spans over 1000 feet of Toccoa River frontage, and consists of a peninsula created by a horseshoe bend in the river, we are surrounded by water on three sides. We are close to town, yet secluded and private. We have other units available, please contact us for more information.
