About this property

Local style 3B/1.5BA on Hanalei Bay 6 houses from Northshore Oceanfrnt

If you want a taste of old Hanalei when days were slower and a good catch fishing and the best vegetables were the talk of the town, this home will fill the order. This property has been lovingly maintained since it was built. It is our family's privilege to share Aunty Lydia's homestead with folks from around the world. Aunty Lydia's Ohana is a 3-bedroom 1.5 bath with carport. Inside you will find photos of this Hanalei family over the years. This home is only 6 houses from the beach (a very short stroll) and well located to reach all the North Shore's best beaches easily. This house is right off Kuhio Highway so you can see the surfers and North Shore life coming and going. It is about 3 blocks into "downtown" Hanalei. There is a great carport with a charcoal BBQ, eating al fresco & enjoying the mountains and waterfall views.

Aunty Lydia's Ohana is a relaxed Hawaiian style home a minute's walk from the center of Hanalei Bay & is probably one of the best values in Hanalei Beach Houses. Surrounded by tropical plants, with a grassy yard surrounding the house on 3 sides.

There is a very functional kitchen enhanced with lovingly stenciled foliage for preparing some of our farmer's market produce and fresh fish from the sea. This room has a pass through to the living room.

The wash house with a washer & dryer is just outside as well as an outside toilet room and a hot & cold shower in the yard.

The house sleeps 6. There is a king bed in the largest bedroom at the back of the house. A queen in the front bedroom and two twins in third bedroom. All bedrooms have their own air conditioners.

Hanalei is famous for its ever-changing mountains; sometimes veiled in thin mist, sometimes obscured in thick clouds, sometimes full of waterfalls, sometimes so sun drenched so that every detail stands out.

Aunty Lydia's is a great place to enjoy the mountains both from the living room windows and from the carport/lanai. Since there is plenty of room to park in front of the house in the yard, many choose this area as the eating & hang out spot. There is an outside table and chairs for al fresco meals.

Not long after our family set this house up as a vacation rental, some of Aunty Lydia's family from the mainland came to Hanalei & were tickled to be able to stay in their Aunty Lydia's house.

While being on Kuhio Highway, (highway in Hanalei meaning 1 lane in each direction with a 25-mile speed limit) the home has a beautiful hedge of tropical foliage separating you from the road. A parking area & the beginning of the yard are in front of the house.

Wai'oli Beach Park is a thin strip of park which is located between the bay front homes and the sand. There are BBQs, tables, shade trees, a bathroom and usually volleyball. This is where you encounter the bay, a minute or so from Aunty Lydia's. When you come home from the beach, there is a hot & cold outside shower to enjoy a freshwater rinse or shower under the stars.

Please be aware that when you book this house or any accommodations by the ocean in Hawaii, not on a bluff, you are booking in a tsunami evacuation zone. Evacuation instructions will be in the house and notice of the tsunami evacuation zone will be part of your contract. Also please know that we cannot accommodate charging of electric vehicles at this property.

family get together
Perfect place for my Mom (91). Sis and myself . We were able to walk to the beach and to town and were just blocks from my daughters and their families. It was clean and beds were comfortable. I would suggest some minor upgrades ( bathroom needs some updating ). A place to sit in the yard would also be a nice addition. Overall, a good stay and would stay again.

Perfect Hanalei getaway
Aunty Lydia’s was the perfect combination of location and affordability. We had room for my husband and two kids and mother in law from out of state. The property is a 2 minute walk to Hanalei beach and a bit further for downtown Hanalei. The views of the mountains and waterfalls from the living room were sublime. We couldn’t ask for anything more. The outdoor showers were very handy for post beach clean up and although it took us a couple days to find, the second toilet adjacent to the carport came in handy more than once! We will definitely be coming back!!!

Great spot in Hanalei
We loved our stay at Aunt Lydia’s Ohana! It was great to be able to walk to the beach and be so close to Hanalei town and the shopping center. Even driving to Tunnels or Anini were short drives from the house. With two teens the outdoor showers were a great amenity. The view from the carport was wonderful. This was a great home to unwind in, and enjoy meals we picked up in town. Owners were responsive and helpful.

Wonderful Place to stay in Moderate Weather
Pros: 3 blocks from the Ocean/ beach 0.5 miles from downtown Hanalei Great view of Mountains from Living Room Great selection of cookware and dishes 2 Outdoor showers and one outdoor toilet Laundry- Washer and dryer Homey comfortable feel to the place Beach chairs/cooler/ and umbrella provide by the property. Cons: Full bed in NOT a queen and is very uncomfortable. It is a valley bed, the person who is the heaviest ends up in the bottom and other other person sleeps on a slant. Black mold at the head of the king-sized bed. The front door sticks and is an accident waiting to happen. Every one got stuck outside/inside a few times and could not open the door. When it would suddenly open people would barely catch themselves from falling down the stairs. Do not recommend staying when it it above 80 degrees. The heat inside becomes oppressive. The main living areas have plenty of fans but it isn't enough to counter the heat. The AC in the bedrooms barely keeps up with the heat.

Perfect for us!
We loved our Aunty Lydia’s Ohana stay! Very simple and down to earth - not for those Hanalei visitors looking for “bougy” or fancy - but absolutely perfect for us. We loved cooking at home, walking to the beach morning and evening, wandering into town, hanging out with the cats who visited daily, and feeling at home in this great homestay. Plenty of space, all the kitchen gear you could need, washer/dryer, and awesome outdoor showers. Loved the chairs and towels - again the basics are totally provided! Mahalo for a beautiful Hanalei visit. We’ll be back!
