About Krista Crookham

In 2004 our family of 4 (One on the way...) drove into the beautiful town of Graeagle. We drove through this amazing town, had a yummy lunch in Blairsden, visited the local Graeagle Grocery Store for a soda, and stopped at Mill pond for a look (As it was snow covered at the time.) Needless to say it was love at first sight! We found ourselves hours later at a local Real Estate office scanning listings. We drove back to El Dorado Hills, near Sacramento, with nothing but Graeagle on our minds. Two days later my husband and I headed back for another look and found ourselves walking through our property @ 40 Paiute Trail. Even though a renovation was clearly in order, we loved its location and charm even with the pea green carpets that adorned our home. We placed our offer that day! Now 11 years later and 3 children getting busier as years go by, we find it harder and harder to visit our lovely home. We hope you will come and enjoy it as much as our family has!

Krista Crookham purchased this house in 2004

What makes this house unique

We love the fact that we rarely get in our car. The kids ride bikes everywhere. We walk downtown daily, enjoying all that this charming town has to offer. Mill pond is a short walk away. No need for cars here.

We had a very nice time!

  • 3 of 5

The BBQ was a bit of a mess and the fireplace was full of ash. Other than that we enjoyed the house and the area!

It would be good to provide detailed instructions on the heater. Not sure we every got it working correctly.

Owner's Response: Happy to see these guests enjoyed our home and visit to Graeagle! The quality of each and every one of our guests' stay is our number one priority, as I preface to all of our guests, "Please let me know if you have any questions during your stay," along with framed references at the home with my contact information along with our local Guest Concierge's contact information. I reached out to this guest to offer a "courtesy" extended stay to counter the snowy weather that was approaching Graeagle, It was at this time, I learned of his difficulty working the heater. This is also when I found out they left early to beat the storm. Our heater is a Kerosene Monitor that requires one to either press the up arrow to make it warmer or the down arrow to make it cooler. This guest suggested I add instructions. I will definitely do so. Only after receiving this review was I made aware of the additional BBQ and fireplace issues. Our propane gas BBQ is a Weber and although it is not brand new it is clean, and works like a charm, as most Weber's do. As far as it being a "mess" I was unable to get a response from this guest regarding that comment. My housekeeper burns the grill off between guests along with thoroughly wiping it down. This had been done. I apologize that I cannot comment further regarding this issue, as I sincerely tried to get further details from this guest, but had no success. Regarding the fireplace, it had been recently used and the removal of hot ashes from prior guest would have been a safety issue. Guests staying in the cooler months may find ashes in the fireplace when turnover is quickly following another guests stay. I Truly wish I could have addressed these concerns at the time of this guests stay. As always, we truly appreciate constructive criticism, if nothing else it allows us to better everyones experience!

Not too much to look at from the outside but cozy and beautiful inside!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here the home was very nice inside outside not as great but the fact that we were inside all the time was ideal the home had a lot of great amenities that made our Visit to griego very comfortable the owners have really thought of everything when it came to kitchen stuff that you would need I would recommend a few more blankets and being given more wood other than that a fantastic time. The owners were very cooperative and made our stay super great.

Owner's Response: Winter months unfortunately do not allow guests to fully enjoy our expansive rear deck adorned with a large lilac bush along with our 1/2 acre lot. Year long our guests are treated to visits by many deer young and old. The exterior of our wonderful home is pictured accurately. No surprises here.:) We do bring in the patio cushions, decor and umbrella due to the winter rain and snow. I am very happy to see these guests enjoyed their visit, and the comforts indoors! They were wonderful guests. *** Note: Firewood is not a provided amenity (as noted on our ad). In this case we had extra from a prior guests stay. Unfortunately I underestimated this guests firewood needs during their stay. I did attempt to provide them with more, but due to the Christmas holiday was unable to provide them with more. Sorry we missed the mark here.

Well managed, quiet retreat

  • 4 of 5

Graeagle was our base for exploring the hikes, lakes and rivers in the Lost Sierra for a week. The two car garage provided lots of storage for our gear (car needed to be parked on the driveway). Garage doors were held closed from the inside by metal bits that had to be removed manually. Once we figured those out, not a problem.

Compliments to the concierge, all furniture, bookshelves, cabinets, linens, surfaces, dishes, and equipment were spotless. Very impressive and much appreciated!

The home is very organized, with only a few - unobtrusively framed - hints and reminders on display. Labels on the electric switches were very useful and welcome.

A major reason to choose this home was the look of the kitchen in the pictures. We like to cook our own meals and were not disappointed. Every appliance looked brand new and worked without fail. Lots of choices for pots and pans, and also in great condition. We especially liked the slow cooker! Small wrinkle: chef knives with serrated blades were worn out, but there was also a sharp cleaver and a paring knife.

As stated in the description, no WiFi or internet access. But cell signal is very good, so we got most of what we needed through the phone.

This being early October, nightly lows were near or below freezing. There is a portable electric heater, but we could not get it to work. We relied on the fixed kerosene oven in the living room in the evenings, let the place cool down at night and turned the heater back on in the morning. OK if you like sleeping in a cool bedroom and can wait for an hour until the temperature has come back up in the morning.

Took off one star for the electrical heater and the kitchen knives, but would definitely come back: the place is really well cared for, we loved the big living room with vaulted ceiling and wood fireplace, plenty of storage in the garage, the french doors to the deck and lots of seating options in the back yard to catch a ray of warming sunshine.

Thank you for providing such a great cabin!

Michael

Quiet and lovely ....

  • 4 of 5

House is just fine for small family or a few people , well equipped overall. Lovely kitchen and great view off the deck. Very nice location close to town. Directions for the DVR would be helpful and also we could not get the outside grill to work. The deck is not particularly dog friendly however as the dogs can simply walk right off the deck unless leashed - no containment there...I had thought the deck area would be more secure with another board across the bottom so we could sit there with the dogs and not worry- so that will be the reason I do not return to this home. Wildlife is a big temptation for most dogs and I do not take any chances! I love Graeagle and will return however- gorgeous area!

Good location and nicely furnished...but no AC and it is difficult to sleep with the heat.

  • 4 of 5

The location is good and the home is well equipped. The kayak is a nice touch. However, if you are planning to stay during a heat spell in the summer, there is no AC and it gets pretty warm in the house.

Owner's Response: Graeagle is a mountain community, that offers warm days and cool comfortable nights in the summer. I have a framed note in Master Bedroom visible to all guests inviting them to open up windows at night and let the low 50-60 degree mountain air in. I provide heat blocker blinds in the dining area just off the kitchen which offset the afternoon lowering sun and keep the house cooler. Additionally, I provide several fans for additional comfort. To all renters in Graeagle, few (if any) homes in this area offer A/C.

Comfortable home base for hiking in Lakes Basin

  • 5 of 5

The house was very clean and comfortable, with a large deck for lounging and reading. After years of staying in Sierra City, staying in Graeagle and this house was a nice change of pace.
