About Howard and Lindy Parkinson

Howard and Lindy Parkinson, we are outgoing and adventurous. Having spent a year sailing down the Caribbean islands we did not find a better place to to be. We spend our time between the Bahamas and the UK renting out which ever house we are not using. I love to cook so I hope you will find my kitchen well provisioned with cooking utensils and pans etc.

Howard and Lindy Parkinson purchased this villa in 2004

Why Howard and Lindy Parkinson chose Hope Town

Why Elbow Cay, Bahamas:

We came here for a 3 day break and left this amazing Island buying a house! We knew after the first 10 minutes in Mermaids ridge that the house was exactly right. We just love it here. People friendly, great and safe for kids. Beaches beautiful. Nice restaurants on the water. Boaters paradise. Super fishing, diving and snorkelling.

Having looked for holiday property in France, Spain and Majorca we could not find anything better.

What makes this villa unique

Peace, privacy and tranquility of island living while near the quaint Hopetown which provides restaurants, shopping facilities and more. Views across of the ocean and the location is perfect for watching birds and butterflies.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a fabulous time! Your house is very comfortable and everything was great.

We loved the pool and used it every day. The weather was perfect too!

We liked the layout of the house. I appreciated the wifi because I had to do a little work when I was there. Mostly we avoided technology though!

We enjoyed the north side of the island and liked it best because it is quiet and the plantings and vegetation are so beautiful by all the homes.

Loved that snorkeling was so close and we went to the Abaco Sea beach for seeing starfish and sunsets.

Truly Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this little piece of paradise while looking for vacation ideas. We'd never visited Elbow Cay before so really didn't know what we were getting into. We were extremely pleased with our week-long stay at Mermaids Ridge. The house was well-stocked with towels and kitchen supplies. They even have a couple of cooler bags you can take to the beach. The house was very clean and beautifully decorated. The pool is amazing. My son and I spent hours in it each day. The house is located outside of the village which was very nice for us; we were looking for somewhere private. We rented a golf cart and had a great time riding it back and forth from town. The beaches were spectacular and there were many days we had the entire beach to ourselves...and they were literally a 2 minute walk away. We met some of the neighbors and they were very friendly. The island felt extremely safe. Our stay really couldn't have been any better. We hope to return for a longer stay next time!

Just a great, GREAT place to stay...

My wife and I and our two boys (12 and 9) along with my dad (72) stayed on the property from 3/13 - 3/20/2018 and I have to say and it was PERFECT for our group. The boys shared a room upstairs which had room for four, my dad had his own room with a queen bed and my wife and I had a room with an ensuite bath and a king bed. It was MORE than enough room and would have comfortable with twice as many people. The upstairs was the TV room although they had no TV "service" but rather a DVD player and a nice selection of movies. The use of a firestick or Apple TV would be simple although the vast majority of our time was spent outside. The kitchen was well appointed with a gas range and oven and ALL the utensils you could possibly need. In the evenings, after long days in the sun, most of our time was spent on the main floor or out on the deck. At the time we were there, there were literally no bugs to be seen or bites to be dealt with and the evenings were cool enough that opening the windows was enough to cool off the entire house. In fact, we only turned the AC on once and that was the last afternoon and evening we were there as it got up to 83 degrees. The pool was very nice albeit a bit on the cold side (time of year) and is the only source of complaint I have about the property. The pump for the filter and circulation of the water wasn't on but my boys didn't mind so I didn't make a big deal about it. Two VERY different beaches are both less than a five-minute walk away. Sherman and his wife Wilma are the caretakers of the home. We only met with them on a few occasions but both were BEYOND welcoming and cordial and reflect the hospitality that we enjoyed EVERYWHERE on the island.

Two matters of note: the house itself is about 2.25 miles from town. I know this because we walked the distance on our first night we were there after dinner ... in the dark, and it gets REALLY dark. It did, however, make the rhythmic passing of the lights from the lighthouse that much more dramatic. That said, if you plan to spend most of your time on the island you'll NEED to either rent a golf cart or bikes. We rented a couple of bikes mainly because we also rented a boat for the entirety of our stay which proved invaluable. With it, we traveled into town, as far north as Great Guana (Nippers) and as far south as Pelican Cay stopping on Lubbers Quarters (Cracker P's) snorkeling and beach hopping in both directions. Favorite snorkel spot: the numerous reefs just off the north end

The property was as advertised. Very nice views.

  • 5 of 5

The house was great, large downstairs common area with kitchen. Plenty of deck space up and around pool. There are two bedrooms on this floor, Master with private bath and a separate full bath. The second floor had a large TV area and a bedroom with some singles with separate full bath. Would be great for kids, etc. Pool was great, private. The only downside is its a bit of a walk to the Dock and more so, Town. Odd rules with golf carts on the north end. Caretaker could be more friendly. The property was fantastic and everything (Kitchen, AC, Pool) worked well. Overall top marks!

Paradise in June

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Mermaid's Ridge several times and have always had a great time. The improvements in the house; renovated kitchen, large air-moving ceiling fans and additional sleeping options (new mattress downstairs) made our visit even better. We love the privacy and serenity at Mermaid's Ridge. And of course, dipping in the beautiful pool after a fun-filled day in the boat. Perfect island getaway.

Great house! Wonderful location, close to the ocean and sound

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house, we were very comfortable. Enjoyed splitting our time between the ocean, sound, pool and biking into the settlement. We cooked in every night, sat out on the deck and enjoyed the sunsets. Our week at Mermaids Ridge could not have been more perfect!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. I am glad you had a good time. Mermaids Ridge really is a place for taking it easy and having fun. I hope you found the delicious ice cream shop half way across the island. I love to cycle there with a large ice cream as a reward at the end of the ride.

It's not just a rental. It's the owners other home.

  • 5 of 5

As former residents and past visitors of the Bahamas, we knew to expect the distinctive turquoise of the sea, the beauty of the beaches, the tropical vegetation, and the breezes off the ocean. But it was our first time at Mermaids Ridge.

It’s not just a rental. It’s the owners other home. You know that from their attention to detail, the attractive furnishings with an easy beach style, their personal touches in artwork and gardens, a kitchen outfitted for an experienced cook prepared to entertain, and a spacious wrap-around deck overlooking the private pool with views of both the ocean and the bay peaking through the tree tops.

Our party of seven included three generations and everyone had a comfortable and separate space to be. The owners’ caretaker was welcoming, the golf-cart and boat rental providers were accommodating, the local grocery stores were adequate with friendly and helpful staff, and Hope Town’s health clinic nurse diagnosed and treated a strep throat. From the local grocers and the fish market at Man-O-War Cay, we bought crawfish, mahi mahi, shrimp, grouper and hog snapper for dinners “at home”. Everyone left with souvenirs: sea shells from the beaches, sand dollars from a shallow snorkeling spot, artwork and sail bags, decorative pillow covers and jewelry – all locally created.

Everyone in the family has asked for a return visit.
