About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedroom, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Here you can find the true NEAHKAHNIE TREASURE! Neahkahnie's true treasure is the energy of the mountain - the powerful "life-force" it holds and makes available for each of us. Neah-kah-nie means "place of the spirits".

Three hundred feet above the waves on the ocean edge of Neahkahnie Mountain, thirty feet above the ground, surrounded by giant Sitka spruce and Douglas fir. Well out of tsunami zone. Look out through the trees, both south and west to the ocean. Look up from the sleeping loft through a huge skylight past the branches to the night stars.

This is a place to leave the city and urban culture behind - a TV-free zone (video/DVD/wi-fi available). A retreat into the world where the rest of nature speaks loudly. Where eagles circle and sing. You can touch true peace and magic here.

Built by hand, with love, thirty years ago. Rock off of the mountain, cedar from the river. The loft and ceiling are redwood. It is a nest out of which books, articles, and visions of the world we are moving into have hatched and taken wing.

The beach is a fifteen minute walk down the road, and a nice aerobic walk back up. A short drive to Oswald West State Park, the trail up Neahkahnie Mountain, the town of Manzanita, or Nehalem Bay State Park.

The Nest is a place to begin a new journey, to refresh your soul, to find new depth, new growth; to choose new futures within yourself.

Why Lane deMoll chose Neahkahnie Beach

We moved here 40 years ago, to be where nature spoke loudly, and to find community and culture in harmony with all life. With children grown, we've downsized. I moved my office back into the house, and converted my 'office' into a place where others can connect with the soul of this place.

What makes this cottage unique

Neahkahnie Mountain can be a deep and powerful experience. It clears out the confusion of urban culture, and brings us in touch with eternal truths and the wisdom of all Creation. Eagles, elk, deer, hummingbirds and other life are more present than people. Ocean, sun, trees, two miles of quiet beach, numerous nearby coastal state parks give opportunity to open our hearts to deeper and broader vision.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for this amazing place! We are newly in love and were able to connect with each other on an intense spiritual level while spending time in this lovely little retreat. It's like we were able to step out of time for a few days and experience each other just as human beings - not as parents, friends, workers. Between the excellent design of the space and the energy you have clearly brought to it, our experience was one of cam, beauty and connection. We'll be back!

A Restorative Little Nest in the Trees

  • 5 of 5

The Eagle's Nest is even more wonderful than it looks! It is just as cozy and charming as it appears in the pictures, but also offers an indescribable feeling of being held in nature in a deep and healing way. It holds all the comforts you could want and the views are amazing. I slept in the loft bed and woke up every morning gazing up into the branches of the huge pine tree towering over me. An expansive beach is just a 5 minute drive away. I went for a solo retreat and came away feeling much more rejuvenated than I thought possible in just a few days. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Coastal Beauty

My husband and I stayed at Eagle's Nest for a weekend in October. The home is beautiful and extremely comfortable. The location is serene and the scenery is breathtaking. We will be back and stay much longer.

The Gorge

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay at the Eagle's Nest and it will not be our last! It is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the amazing town of Manzanita. The Eagle's Nest is perfect for a visit any time of the year .. it is close to the beach for walks in the surf, plus has amazing views if you want to stay in next to a warm fire and storm watch. The Eagle's Nest is beautifully located up a hill and in the trees on a quiet road. It really does not get much better than this! Thanks Tom for another wonderful stay.

Perfectly Charming and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We spent four perfectly charming and very comfortable days staying in the spacious Eagle's Nest, perched on a hillside with spectacular views overlooking the Pacific Ocean and nearby Manzanita beach. The floor to ceiling windows and skylight bring the coastline's beauty right into the living space. Eagle's Nest is perfectly situated for day trips to explore the beautiful state parks and beaches up and down Oregon's northern coast. Every meal was a joy, whether we took advantage of the Nest's fully equipped kitchen or several very good nearby restaurants. Whether you're looking for a place to curl up and read a good book or a base from which to explore the beauty and many hiking opportunities available along the Oregon coast, Eagle's Nest is the perfect choice.

First time in Oregon. Eagles Nest at Manzanita was the best place to experience the rejuvenating qualities the Oregon coast provided!

Second visit as wonderful as the first.

  • 5 of 5

It wasn't until later in the spring that we decided we could fit a trip to Manzanita into our summer, and there was no question that we would return to the Eagle's Nest. We thought we were booking ahead, but when it came time to find dates, only 3 days were available in summer, and we grabbed them.

The amenities are simple, but answered the needs of our family: two adults, two kids under 12. The house is thoughtfully designed to capitalize on the gorgeous views and the sounds of the trees in the wind, the birds, and the surf below. The balcony this year had a door knob issue, but we were able to sit in the Adirondack chairs on the deck area and listen to the sounds of the mountain. Very soothing.

We rent vacation homes often, but this is one kitchen I don't have to worry about: it comes well-stocked, and there is even a stash of plastic containers for taking food to the beach. The fridge is apartment sized, but extra freezer space is available to guests. I like to cook, so I always bring my own sharp knives, but you are well-set up otherwise: you can cook in cast iron and use a French press or drip coffee maker in the morning. We went clamming and cooked up some chowder in the Dutch oven on the stove. And, we were able to thoroughly freeze a crab we harvested for our journey home.

We love Eagle's Nest so much, we are going to be very proactive and book a week next year.
