Very nice place to stay! Beautiful no matter which direction you are looking. The front porch is the very best part of the place. Morning to evening the view is amazing!

Always had peace and quiet. Enjoyed cooking at the cabin. Hosts were wonderful!

Sublime, beautiful...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with dear friends, and our toddlers, so 2 couples and 3 kiddos (17 mo twins and a 19mo). Chris and Carols beautiful house was exactly what we were looking for, somewhere rural for us city folks to re-calibrate and experience the beauty of Hawaii in. We loved everything about the house, cooking meals in the kitchen, long easy mornings on the porch drinking Kona coffee and hanging out with the animals, the parade of rainbows on a rainy day, evening stargazing, exploring Hawi, farmers markets, and local playgrounds and beaches...I could go on and on. We even got to listen to Chris’s bluegrass band on our island road trips, and play his guitar in the living room for the kiddos before bedtime, what a wonderful vacation we won’t soon forget!

Magical experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 4 nights with our two young daughters and could not be happier with our experience. The home is spectacular and Chris made sure we had things like a crib and booster seat. Our daughters spent hours exploring the backyard, feeding the horses Pua and Kai, and playing on the hammock. The house is also a great jumping off point for adventures- we were at the Farmers Market in Waimea in 35 minutes, we were at Polulu valley for a hike in 20 minutes, and at Mauna Kea/Hapuna beaches in 25 minutes. We will definitely return!

Pure magic for the entire family

  • 5 of 5

I’ve never stayed at a home more conducive to quality family time and enjoying the magic of childhood at any age. We stayed here over Christmas and every day began with a visit to the animals and coffee on the porch overlooking the beautiful pasture and ocean view. We relaxed without interruption and adventured from this home base for 5 days. Our group included a family of 5 adults and one child, age 5. The house was perfect for getting away from it all and enjoying each other’s company over food, animals, cards, games, and stargazing. For families with children that seem to be preoccupied with tablets, phones, and television - this place is the remedy you need to reset your family connection. We never even turned on the tv. We sat in the yard watching our son feed the sheep, we explored the forest looking for interesting shells and plants, we had a fire and roasted marshmallows, we used a telescope to look at stars and Maui. But mostly we just enjoyed each other’s company free of distraction and interruptions. Chris and Carol are amazingly warm and welcoming hosts that make you know they are there if needed but it’s not intrusive. They make you want to soak up their lifestyle and tell the world about a better way to live. It was an magical experience at the Kohala Lodge for our whole family. I’ve never seen so many smiles all day long. We hope to return frequently to keep the connection and watch our son grow up experiencing such a place throughout his childhood. You can’t go wrong choosing this Home for your next vacation.

Our visit to Kohala Lodge changed us for the better. Something about the energy there was spiritual.

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for the wonderful stay at the lodge !

Our family of four stayed at the Kohala lodge in November of 2017 during Thanksgiving break. When we arrived at the property in the afternoon after a long day of flying, I was stunned by the physical beauty of the property and the setting. It looks just like it did in the online photos, but even more breathtaking in person with the light wind blowing and a gentle rainbow along the horizon. Not Kidding. It was quite a welcome!

Chris and Carol are amazing host and delightful people. They were courteous and helpful, offering suggestions for daily activities, shopping, and directions. Chris provided firewood for us (the fireplace is exquisitely grand), which we actually used because it was quite cool in the evenings on top of the hill. We boogie-boarded all day down on the coast, hiked up and down lush trails, and came home to the lodge to drink delicious Kona coffee and sit by the fire! Hawaii is diverse in micro climates !

The Lodge itself was really charming, built and decorated in an old Hawaiian cowboy style. The kitchen was well-appointed, and we cooked most of our meals at home using local ingredients, enjoying the spectacular view as we ate our meals. The green, grassy pasture below had lots of adorable farm animals, which my children fed every morning with delight (Chris and Carol gave us some animal kibble and showed the kids how to call the animals over). The porch is expansive and comfortable, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine at night while watching the sunset progress into the greatest stargazing show of all time.

Most importantly, this visit to Kohala lodge changed us, for the better. Something about the energy there was very spiritual, quiet, and healing. The experience brought our family closer together. We, as a family, witnessed mother nature's glory showing us her finest repertoire, and we will share those moments forever, even with no words exchanged between us.

Mahalo, Kohala Lodge.

Can't wait to come back !!!!
