About the property

Garden level 2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3)

JUST-renovated garden level pad on terrific block, convenient yet quiet. Spanking new checkerboard floors, retro stove, flat screen TV, designer hard wood table and chairs. Spacious master bedroom with gloriously comfortable Ralph Lauren bed. 750 square foot space includes small bedroom with a sleigh bed and comfortable-enough-to-fall-asleep-on sofa.

Find out why a New York Magazine cover story has declared Park Slope NYC’s 'most livable neighborhood.' “It’s blessed with excellent public schools, low crime, vast stretches of green space, scores of restaurants and bars, a diverse retail sector, and a population of more artists and creatives than even its reputation for comfortable bohemianism might suggest (more, in fact, than younger, trendier Williamsburg),” says MY Mag.

This ground floor apartment is smack dab in the middle, between north and south, between Fifth and Seventh Avenues, on a leafy block close to 2 subway lines, an easy stroll to Prospect Park, bakeries, restaurants, bars, clubs, wine shops. Within three blocks are La Bagel Delight, Zitos, Barbes, Colson's pastries, Chip Shop NYC, beautifully renovated public library with 75 ipads for youngsters. A wee bit further are Bell House, BAM, the Botanic Gardens, the Brooklyn Museum, Barclays Stadium...

Oh and I almost forgot Manhattan is minutes away: Downtown is about 20 minutes on the train, Midtown allow 30 minutes, Upper east and West side more like 45 minutes. Two subway stations that will get you there are the F train and the R train. About a mile away (and an easy subway ride) is the Long Island Railroad, an above ground train that will take you to East Hampton, and all the other Hamptons, ferries to Fire Island and etc. A twenty minute walk away are the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, the Brooklyn Museum, Atlantic Avenue, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, better known as BAM and other adventures. Declared the bloggiest part of the planet check out my friend Louise's only the blog knows brooklyn dot com and there are so many others ...

When you book travel bear in mind I can't guarantee check in before 3 PM; check out is by 11 AM. While the apartment is on the garden level the back garden is not available for use.

Please note that as of February 2016 the new owners of this website have begun charging guests a "service fee' which will appear on your quote. I have therefore lowered my prices.

Come and enjoy good living in New York City!

About Barbara Ensor

In my current career as an author and an artist I have written and illustrated two children's books, Cinderella (As If You Didn't Already Know the Story) and Thumbelina, Tiny Runaway Bride. Both were published by Random House Children's Books and were praised by reviewers for the New York Times as well as lots of young readers. I have had a one woman show of art work (in Park Slope where else?!) and two more exhibitions are coming up in the near future. The books are illustrated with cut paper silhouette images and pen and ink which are also the mediums (media?) I work with as a fine artist. My sensibility as an artist and storyteller are reflected in my home. I am a dual citizen of the UK and the US with roots and family in both. Perhaps that too shows up in the apartment along with some places I would like to go, like Morocco and the middle ages. More is on my website, Google Barbara Ensor and you will find it.

Why Barbara Ensor chose Park Slope

We moved to the dreaded “outer boroughs” in 1989 for enough space to house a growing family. About a week later a light bulb came on in my head: It is better here. Life was sweeter, more civilized in so many ways. Here every building had its own personality, people smiled at one another, there were trees, gardens, history, a sense of community and continuity, all very reminiscent of Hamstead and Highgate the London neighborhoods where I grew up. Why then didn’t everyone move here? Since then everyone has. Particularly parents, writers, dog owners, anyone in the arts, particularly.... Well at this point particularly anyone who cares about their quality of life. Park Slope is no longer a place to go for more affordable space. It's where you move if you want a life. Twenty years later, divorced and with kids who have flown from the nest I can't imagine leaving. Where else could I go to the theater and be home an hour later warming my hands in front of the fire? My scaled down home is now a chic yet comfy springboard, I like to rent out for frequent travel. It has it all: high speed internet, a romantic garden, a working fireplace, a spunky bathroom, some whimsy, some grandeur, high ceilings, a great kitchen, a sculptural table hewn from a piece of mango and plenty of closets. What else is there?!

What makes this apartment unique

No stairs in swanky spare luxe aesthetic apartment in terrific neighborhood with character, history, and amenities of all sorts including a park many prefer to Central Park (same designers).. Easy subway ride to Manhattan. ,

Great location in Park Slope - quiet street and spacious apartment.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed staying in Barbara's spacious apartment and would recommend it to others planning a visit to Brooklyn. Initially we had a problem accessing the wi-fi however Barbara quickly sorted this out. The apartment is well located and close to many restaurants and cafes and a short walk to the subway.

A wonderful home base during my NY stay!

  • 5 of 5

The property is located on a lovely, quiet street in Park Slope, convenient to every amenity (grocery stores, restaurants, subway, etc.) that one could wish for. The apartment is lovely, decorated in a somewhat bohemian style with fabulous, interesting art work (much of it by the owner). It was close to my daughter's studio apartment, and provided us a place where we could hang out and visit (and watch a few movies on an actual TV, instead of her laptop) without having to sit on a bed! :-) I worked from the apartment during the day, and the wi-fi (my most important work tool) performed well and allowed me to continue to do my job seamlessly. The main bedroom is spacious and lovely, with plenty of space in the dresser and closet to unpack. The second bedroom is smaller, but would work for an additional person. The kitchen is well-equipped, which allowed me to eat in when I wanted and save my funds for a few special meals out (rather than eating out for every meal). The bathroom was lovely, and well stocked with towels, hair dryer, shampoo, etc. I should note that this is a garden level apartment, which means a family resides above. While I did hear footsteps overhead, there was no noise at inopportune times and I did not find it to be an issue. In short, I had everything I needed for a lovely, comfortable visit, and I would definitely return for my next visit with my daughter.

Great location!

  • 3 of 5

Only 4 minutes walk to the 'F' train and 8 minutes walk to the 'N&R' lines that will take you to Manhattan this location cannot be beaten. Supermarkets and restaurants are close by as is a huge park for walking or bike riding.Very quiet day and night only with the occasional siren( none at night) from the nearby hospital you can return to serenity after a busy day downtown.

If you are looking for luxury don't stay is an apartment, not a hotel..It is an older building typical if the area , big rooms and high ceilings, it feels built for someone 7ft tall. The main bedroom is huge but the second is very cramped in my opinion is really only for a child. Flimsy curtain, more like a sheet didn't darken the room at all and if you are not a heavy sleeper you'll be awake very early in the morning. The kitchen was very good, everything in working order and the shower is huge, great for someone that has mobility issues as no climbing into a tub. The shower head is so high and its design is quite strange so that water goes every which way and doesn't get a lot to of water on to ones body.

We didn't meet Barbara the owner but she did respond promptly when we contacted her with a tv issue. Due to a public holiday it did take 3 days to resolve that. There is a lovely garden outside , but alas guests have no access to that. We never saw anyone out there, but we did hear them. The family upstairs are incredibly noisy in the mornings which can be good if you want to get up and make an early start at the sightseeing.

All in all our stay was pleasant enough and was a much better option than paying $300-400 per night in Manhattan.

A delightful week

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Barbara's apartment for a week to escape renovations in our own Brooklyn home. Couldn't have been better! Location was perfect, just blocks to the subway and Prospect Park. Must be the most charming block in Park Slope. And the space was perfect for our family of three. Our escape turned into a delightful sort of "staycation" in our hometown!

Clean, spacious and great location

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days during a very hot July. The location really can't be beat! It is on a quiet street but only a few blocks from anything you want to do in Park Slope. And within blocks of subway stations if you want to go into NYC. Place is clean and much more spacious than a hotel room. Barbara was very attentive via text to make sure everything was good with our stay. We would definitely rent with Barbara again except for the fact that our son's family is planning on moving to Denver late fall.
