About this property

Beautiful 4 Acre Private Island ~ Secluded Getaway ~ Truly A Special Place!

Our island is about 4 acres, with a variety of trees from white birch, oak, maple, white pine and lots of cedar. We have wonderful swimming right off our dock. Trophy pike, musky , bass, perch, splake, lake trout, pickeral and pan fish abound.

Remember, you are in the Great Lakes. Because we are located in a sheltered bay the water temperature is great for swimming and other water sports. The island is conveniently located and easy to get to and from the small marina where your vehicle will be parked.

This is truly a special place offering a great get away with modern conveniences. For those into photography this is the place. You will find fantastic sunsets, wildlife and wonderful panoramic views everywhere you look. I also recommend a day trip exploring Manitoulin the worlds largest fresh water island.

You will feel like you've gone back in time, with beautiful pastoral landscapes, split rail fences, inland lakes and quaint port towns offering shopping and great places to eat. But if you are like me, you may not want to leave the bay. For those who treasure nature and a comfortable retreat away from resorts and the city.

One of our recent young visitors said 'this is better than Disney!'

We also offer Guided Fishing Excursions from 3 days to 1 week. Our most popular is the Father/Son-Daughter trip. Of course Mothers can come too. We provide the guides, boats, food, bedding ect. Basically all you need is your proper clothing, fishing equipment and camera. We can handle most of the rest. Check out our Video Links!!!

Please come, you will not be disappointed. Thank you and 'Happy Trails'. J. Dillon

We want to make your stay a memorable and stress free one. You will find most everything you need. We don't want you to worry about bringing anything but your food, clothing, camera, sunscreen and flashlights. You will find our kitchen has most any appliance you will need. We also try to provide garbage bags, paper towels, toilet paper etc.

Check in is 3pm/check out is 10pm unless other arrangements are needed and can be met. Our cleaner may need to overlap slightly on rare occasions for a short time. We ask our guests to strip the sheets and start a load before leaving to help the cleaner.

Please remove all items from the refrigerator and take all garbage from the island. I provide large bags since the marina charges per bag to dispose of garbage. There are recycle bins at the marina.

KITCHEN
You will find our kitchen well equipped. Gas stove, full sized fridge and small drink fridge on back deck, toaster, microwave, food processor, kitchen aid, 2 coffee pots(drip and Perk), coffee grinder, malt/shake maker etc.

The water is filtered but there is a 5 gallon dispenser for those who choose to bring their own which can be purchased at local stores and the marina. You will find most spices you have forgotten to bring. Feel free to borrow anything you need.

LIVING AREAS
You will find 2 areas in the main Cabin to hang out. The area by the stone fireplace is a magnet to congregate for conversation or enjoying a hot cup of coffee or your favorite beverage. The Lower level has a card table for games, puzzles etc. and a day bed for those wonderful afternoon naps or reading that great book. You will find an assortment of games: chess, cards, backgammon, scrabble, chinese checkers and others. You will find a wide selection of books on shelves to be enjoyed.

SLEEPING LOFT
You will find a small sleeping loft in the main cabin with 2 twin beds, great for young ones as a "little get away".

+the main breaker panel is found behind a picture just left go the fireplace.

BATH HOUSE
In the bath house you will find an antique clawfoot tub and shower, flush toilet and washer/dryer. There is another breaker box above and to the left of the washer.

Sunmar Composting Toilet
This is the most environmentally friendly type of waste system for an island setting. You will find detailed instructions but I will go over them with you once you arrive.

MAIN SLEEP CABIN
This cabin offers a queen bed and a small woodturning stove. The open ceiling, walls and floors are covered by local cedar.
"Girls cabin", As the name implies we built this cabin for our daughters and comes with 2 twin and 1 double bed.

Very nice
The owner John is great to work with. Make sure to book a fishing tour with local guide Bully; you will not be disappointed! Property is exactly as advertised.

Dilligans Island
The owner was very accommodating and responsible in the time of covid. There were potential difficulties with getting there through the marina which is on native land. He offered a refund close to our date but it all worked out. The property is as advertised. It is beautifully rustic. The only down side is that it is near the marina and there could be a lot of boat traffic (which we did not experience because the Americans could not get across the border). We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and would be happy to return.

The area is beautiful and lay back. Gorgeous waters dotted with islands. McGregor Bay is magnificent, Killarney Park is a must. The cottage really grows on you, it has everything you need in the kitchen and more. Pizza oven is a must try. Sauna and swim is invigorating. Overall, a great get away 🛶🎣🧘‍♀️☀️

A relaxing stay on your own island !
The whole family had a great time: swimming, fishing, boating, discovering the bay... A charming cottage with the convenience of letting young kids and our dog live their own life during a week and still feeling safe. Great time in the sauna, preparing and baking our own (delicious of course !) pizzas... Nothing to worry about but staring at the view. (the arrival information should be updated)

idyllic retreat
Dillon's island is indeed a special place...private yet convenient, cozy, comfortable and also thoughtfully laid out, with an amazingly well-provisioned kitchen. I kept thinking I would need something that wasn't there, but after a few minutes of looking, I always found it! We took full advantage of the wonders offered, including a half-day fishing with Ojibway guide Bully King. He was terrific and we caught 4 fish, which he cleaned and de-boned for us to enjoy later that night at dinner. We also hike up to Lake Topaz (lovely), kayaked around the bay, and had a pizza night, using the wood-buning oven on the island. The sleeping cabins were comfortable and roomy, and exploring the 4 acres was excellent fun for our dog. Thanks John, we hope to see you next summer!

My name is John Dillon. I am presently retired from teaching and various business ventures. I have a wonderful wife, Tes, four great children and two grandchildren. My children and grandchildren have been coming to the island all their lives. We have been blessed to be able to spend our summers in such a special place. As I tell everyone, the island is my therapy. Each summer I come away with a renewed spirit and a clearer head. I am looking forward to growing old, I should say older, and spending more time here with my wonderful family and friends. And I enjoy being able to share this special place with others so they may create lifelong memories of their time with their family and friends on the Island.

Why they chose this property

This is rare opportunity to spend time on a private island in a world class setting. Having the opportunity to catch Trophy Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Muskie and Rainbow Trout. There are also lots of pan fish too. We offer Guided fishing excursions from 3 days to a week for 4 guests at a time. Great for Father/Son or Daughter weekends. We provide boats, guides, lodging, food, shore lunches, and fish cleaning. The best Pike fishing is from Ice out to Late June. Bass from Mid June through the Summer. We specialize in Trophy Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass.

What makes this property unique

A great place to explore, relax , cook your own pizzas in a wood burning oven, relax in a great wood fired Sauna and photograph lifelong memories.
