The LAZY BOWEN HIDEAWAY is the self-contained, top floor of the duplex, and separate from the LAZY B WATERFRONT SUITE. All entrances, decks, and interior spaces are private.

Our 37-year old decks have been replaced with all new cedar, galvanized railings, and weatherproof upper decks creating dry outdoor decks for the ground floor LAZY B WATERFRONT SUITE.

FREE On-property Parking is provided for AWD vehicles. Free parking is available for 2 wheel drive vehicles at the top of our access road/driveway along Eagle Cliff Road.

Parking on the property requires driving a short distance on Cleator Road:

~ it is steep in spots

~ it is made of loose gravel

An all-wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicle the size of a Ford Explorer or smaller is required to drive Cleator Road, our access road/driveway. Or, you may choose to park your 2 wheel drive vehicle at the top of the road and take the 5-minute walk down to the cottage. Parking is free.

CLEATOR ROAD SHUTTLE SERVICE

If you drive a 2 wheel drive vehicle, we have an optional Cleator Road Shuttle service for your convenience. About Jan Stevens

Jan Stevens was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She studied art and Interior Design at the University of Washington. In 1982 she moved to Henderson, Nevada where she designed one-of-a-kind interiors for hundreds of clients. Over 21 years ago, when her son was an infant, she established Jan Stevens Design and began her successful design business while working out of her house and being “Mom” at the same time. Jan has designed stylish, comfortable and gorgeous interiors for over 39 years. Jan’s creativity and organizational skills has led her to other entrepreneurial endeavors such as fundraising, graphic design, writing, and photography, as well as managing the Lazy Bowen Hideaway as a vacation rental. Over the last 10 years, following her passion for Bowen’s natural beauty, Jan began photographing the island sunsets, landscapes, and flora. Starting as a hobby the photographs were given as gifts to friends and neighbors as calendars and note cards. With the encouragement of a good friend, Jan has just recently signed, framed and displayed some of her best work at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway. All of Jan’s Bowen Island photography is available for sale. With all of Jan’s relatives being Canadian and living in the Vancouver area Jan’s frequent visits to her Bowen Island home makes staying in touch with family easy. The goal in the near future is to spend equal time between the sunny Southwest and the temperate rain forest of Bowen Island. This would be the best of both worlds.

UPDATE AS OF FEBRUARY 2013 ~ I am proud to say that I am now a dual citizen, US and Canadian, retroactive back to my date of birth in 1955.

Why Jan Stevens chose Bowen Island

Our Bowen Island cabin has been in the Stevens family since 1954. When our Aunt passed we became the 2nd generation to own and care for this beautiful waterfront property. We have over 50 years of irreplaceable childhood memories of family time at the cabin: playing cards, board games, and swimming all day and night. It only makes sense to share this special property with other families that will appreciate the many special qualities of Bowen Island: slow pace, safe environment, and spectacular waterfront setting among a few. We are thrilled to be creating new family memories for our son and hope the Lazy Bowen Hideaway can be a part of your family history too.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the comfort of our home while we sit and enjoy the view from all angles of the property. Nature surrounds us and changes with the seasons from vivid yellow Laburnum and forsythia to the rich evergreen of the fir and cedar trees. While we enjoy cruise ships and ferries sailing by as we view them through the ancient and protected Arbutus trees on the property. but my favorite is catching the Island Deer grazing on the berries and salal below the deck.

Lazy Bowen hideaway is the best

We are as always are extremely impressed with this short term rental! We’ve stayed at many other rentals and not one has ever even come close to this ocean front oasis! We return Several times a year and especially love the gourmet kitchen and beautiful decks!! We highly recommend this gorgeous place.

Stunning Views and Total Relaxtion

The Lazy Bowen Hideaway is a complete gem and we couldn’t be happier with our stay! Jan was so wonderful to communicate with and made planning the mini get-away a breeze. The property is nicely tucked away on a private road and the view is breathtaking. My friend and I were on Bowen to have a quiet weekend of relaxation to celebrate her birthday and the Hideaway didn’t disappoint. The kitchen was fabulous to prepare meals in and we ate in the entire trip - no reason to leave except to take a little walk further down the road to the beach (seconds away). The place has everything you need for a vacation plus more! I would highly recommend the Hideaway for a vacation and hope to return for another stay! Thanks for everything Jan - it was so hard to leave your beautiful place.

Fantastic waterfront cabin

My wife and I stayed at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway for a couple nights in April and had a fantastic time. The views and sounds of the ocean were incredible. The kitchen was super well-equipped and a pleasure to cook meals in. The bed was comfy and since the cabin is down at the end of a dead-end, 4WD road, there was no road or neighbour noise to deal with.

For us, the 4wd access road was fun and added to the uniqueness, but for some it would definitely be a drawback. Just make sure you take a proper 4WD or AWD vehicle.

The only real negative experience we had was a run-in with carpenter ants. A sign stated that they'd been spraying and we could encounter some dead ants, but we actually had a bunch of them get in through a couple new holes they must have made, which creeped me out a bunch. We managed to kill them all and put tape over the holes which kept them at bay for the rest of the trip. The note mentioned they were over one of the beds, too, which would have made it virtually impossible for me to sleep there since I get particularly freaked out by large insects, so luckily we were only needing the other bed. I would have appreciated a heads up about this, particularly if we were planning on using the other bedroom. Ants are bad enough during the day when you can see them...

We love that you appreciated our AWD access road and how it adds to the charm and privacy of the Hideaway. We are sorry to learn that your stay was affected by the carpenter ants. During their awakening phase (typically a 2 week period sometime in March) our only defense is to vacuum them up when they appear. The ants are harmless to you and me but, if one is bugged by bugs, we understand this could be uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the carpenter ants are a formidable foe and thrive in the Bowen rainforest. We see this as a part of island life. With regular professional maintenance several times during the year, we have successfully isolated them now to the right front corner of the living room. Your feedback has inspired us to write a blog post to inform our future Bowen visitors about nature's bugs, critters, and other island creatures. We hope it will be informative for our future guests. Thank you again for your feedback, and we look forward to hosting you again in the near future.

A M A Z I N G

I can't believe how wonderful this place was! You know it's good when it is pouring down rain and you don't even mind that you didn't go for a hike or walk the beach. My 3 friends and I needed time to rest and reflect and fellowship and that is exactly what we got! We bought groceries in Vancouver and cooked up wonderful breakfast, lunch and dinner in the gorgeous kitchen while staring out at the beautiful views. We laughed, we cried, we built an epic fire! Waking up to the sun peeking up over the mountain and refelecting on the water and deck was a memory I won't forget. So- If you don't mind dragging your luggage down and back up the steep gravel drive (that was a hilarious adventure for us---wish you could have been there!) then please come here asap! It was worth it!!

We start our base rate at double occupancy because 60% of our guests are couples. We want couples to pay a fair nightly rate for their stay. We then add for additional guests to compensate for the additional amenity, water, power, and cleaning required.

Our additional guest rate includes adults and children. With the exception of infants that are not yet walking, we do charge for all guests including children. Unlike hotel rooms, we have many nooks and crannies, glass, and objects that require deep cleaning like a real home. Our housekeepers do an excellent job of cleaning after each turnover and this all takes additional time with additional guests. Plus all guests use bedding, water, towels, and other amenities.
