About this property

Private-Panoramic Views of the Great Smoky Mountains-FREE Mountain Air

Mountaintop Experience offers a comfortable authentic cabin atmosphere and a wonderful mountain-top setting with spectacular panoramic fifteen mile views into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. If incredible mountain views are at the top of your 'must have' list, this cabin will not let you down.

From the back of the cabin no other cabins are visible. We replaced the upper deck early in 2017, replacing the spindles with hog wire, making the views even more unobstructed. The next year we updated the lower deck with hog wire. It's amazing what lengths some owners go through to take pictures that appear to show privacy! We have been burned several times in this way.

Main Level: Spacious floor plan with cathedral ceilings throughout and hardwood floors (except in master (carpeted) and baths, all of which are tiled), Great Room with Stone Gas Fireplace and Full Length Picture Windows, 42" HD LED TV, DVD/CD player/AM/FM Surround Sound, Updated Kitchen with leather granite countertops, granite sink, and bronze faucet, Stainless Steel/Black Appliances, Dining Room with large table and seating for six, Countertop seating for two, two piece Bath, Master King Bedroom with carpet (with Full Bath (leather granite countertops, sinks, faucets, and a spa like shower update in 2018, with pebble floor), TV, DVD player and access to upper deck), Uncovered deck spanning the length of the cabin with gas grill, a pub table with three chairs, two single rockers and one double rocker. 12’ x 12’ pergola on master end of deck, installed in 2017.

Lower Level: 10' ceiling throughout lower level with carpet, Game Room with Stone Gas Fireplace, New Pool Table (11/2018), old-fashioned video game table, 42" HD LED TV, BluRay DVD player, Wii console (bring your own games and remotes), Two Queen Bedrooms (one with access to lower deck and TV/DVD; one with TV and Wi-Fi Router for Internet Access, and sleep number mattress), Full Bath (new granite, tile, tub, sink, faucets), Separate Utility Room with Washer and Dryer, Pull out queen Sofa bed, Covered Deck spanning the length of the cabin with Hot Tub, two-person rocker and two single rockers.

We had been a premier host since 2007. Last year we had to cancel a reservation, as the pump in our well had to be replaced. It would be impossible to rent to guests without running water, and four men and huge machinery in the yard. VRBO stripped us of the premier host badge. Apparently, owners can't cancel even for a good reason. We have to have less than 1% cancellation, which is 1 out of 100 bookings. Eventually, we will earn it back. I'm still trying to appeal it, as well.

Wonderful Property and Amazing Host
We had the most wonderful vacation and then it unexpectedly got extended due to ice/snow. We were unable to get down the mountain for 3 days and the hosts couldn’t have been more gracious! Our boys loved the arcade table and we sure loved the hot tub on those cold days/nights. The cabin had everything we needed and was very clean. Any questions we had, Lori answered right away. We have already recommended this place to our friends and would love to go back!

Owners Charles, Debbie, Jeff, Lori, and Charlotte Thompson

Charlie, Jeff, and Lori, all engineers, appreciate the structural integrity of Mountaintop Experience. Debbie, a teacher, can't stop marveling at the view. Charlotte, our sixteen-year old enjoys the view, the comfy sofas and the Wi-Fi most of all. When she was younger her favorite thing was the hot tub. She would always make sure to remember her goggles. After all, all professional hot tub swimmers wear goggles!

Why they chose this property

My husband and I having been visiting the Great Smoky Mountains for thirty years. We've stayed in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Walden's Creek, Townsend, and Wears Valley. We love them all. Since we live in Knoxville, several weekend trips a year, even on the spur of the minute, are not out of the question. We've stayed in many different cabins. The problem was that there was always something that could have been better. A cabin with a great view would offer no privacy. One with privacy had no view. We wanted a cabin with as many amenities as possible that we could count on consistently. A 'known quantity', if you will. Of all the cabins we've stayed in over the years, none can hold a candle to Mountaintop Experience. Previously, it was named A Wilderness Lodge. However, since it isn't in the wilderness and it isn't a lodge, we changed the name to Mountaintop Experience. We hope you have a wonderful experience on our portion of this mountaintop.

What makes this property unique

The design of Mountaintop Experience is ingenious. With virtually the entire back of the house being windows, the mountain view is the centerpiece of the cabin. You can simply sit on the sofa and enjoy the incredible views. You can easily forget that anyone else is around.
