This house glows with life and creativity. The architect designed windows and skylights to fill the interior with a distinctive Southwestern light which enhances the vivid hues of the polished walls. Each room opens onto its own secluded, outdoor space with lavender, rosemary and native plants bordered by rock walls and stone benches. It’s a remarkably peaceful refuge only a block away from the restaurants, cafés, clothing stores, and eclectic boutiques of Albuquerque’s hippest district – Nob Hill on Old Route 66. It is a 10-15 minute walk away from the University of New Mexico, including the medical school and hospital.
The kitchen is fully equipped with vintage, Route 66-era red gas stove and refrigerator, as well as a contemporary toaster, microwave and both French press and drip coffee makers. In the pantry, you’ll find an energy-saving Swedish washer and dryer. A farm-house table allows you to take full advantage of the light streaming through the French windows to the west. A step down from the kitchen, across the bamboo flooring, is the main living area. It is equipped with a large, recessed flat screen television and blue-ray DVD and plug-in Bose equipment for your I-Pod. The elegant down couch is comfortable enough for a good afternoon nap. The gas-burning stove gives extra warmth on chilly days.
The house rises to accommodate the landscape as you move towards the study and the master bedroom. The study has two desks and full internet/wireless service on request. A leather couch folds out into a full bed. The walls are hung with pieces from the largest private collections of photographs by Tony Gleaton, known for his portraiture of people from the African Diaspora in the New World. Next to the study is a full bathroom in audacious pink. Down the hall, the master bedroom offers a queen-size bed and its own regional gas stove. It flows into a changing area and large bathroom, complete with a Jacuzzi bath and shower.
For sunny New Mexico days, outdoor dining and seating dot the front and back courtyards in which a boutique landscape designer has orchestrated an array of seasonal blooms.
Because we care about the environment and don't want to expose people to unnecessary toxins, we use green products only to care for our home.
