About Bina Breitner

I grew up in Arizona and returned gratefully after spending decades in cold harsh climates where I dreamed every winter of southwestern sunsets, bougainvillea, and palm trees. Now I have them again, and I invite you to share them. My house has a fully equipped apartment that goes directly out to the solar-heated pool and large garden patio with a pergola and places to bask or eat. There's a separate private entry to the guest unit, as well as access to good laundry machines only steps away. Everything is included. Guests have their own wireless internet, security alarm, premium cable TV, heating/cooling thermostat, and cooking facilities. There's plenty of closet space, good light, and a high-end Stearns & Foster queen bed in the bedroom. Cleaning service is available if you want it.

Bina Breitner purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Bina Breitner chose San Clemente

I bought the house because I fell in love with its grace and privacy, its protected gardens, and its location in one of the original Tucson neighborhoods, San Clemente, which is now a nationally designated 'historic' district. The house is from 1938; the apartment was added later but is in the same style. The location is excellent -- it's quiet but central, with easy access to restaurants, parks, zoo, tennis, golf, shopping, biking, hiking, and the university.

What makes this apartment unique

This location has the advantage of being centrally located but very private. It's an oasis in town.

delightful oasis

  • 5 of 5

Great central location for exploring Tucson. Surprisingly spacious and comfortably furnished for everything you could want for either a short or long stay. Owner is on-site and readily available to replenish supplies or offer advice. A list of locations for food shopping and restaurants was provided. The property is beautifully landscaped, private and quiet. I would definitely recommend this place. You have your own thermostat for comfortable climate control. I especially liked having a desk in the separate den/TV room for setting up my computer. Lots of nice touches that made this place very comfortable and a pleasure to have found. Pool is beautiful to look at but it was still too cool to use in mid February.

Owner's Response: Thank you. It gives me pleasure to share a compound I love, and I enjoy meeting people like you! I'm glad you were comfortable and felt supported at this "home away from home."

silver city

  • 4 of 5

We stayed two night here and found the accommodations quite lovely. The living space is just right for two and having a beautiful outdoor area with a pool was a delight. We were greeted by the host upon our arrival. There is most anything a person would need in the kitchen (except a coffee mill [ OK, I'm a coffee snob } and the bath towels were large and soft. The Wi-Fi is quite fast and the TV set is almost a classic. The location is a quiet neighborhood a couple of blocks off a main Tucson street allowing quick access to most any part of the Tucson area.

The only drawback for us was the proximity of the refrigerator to the bedroom - quite close. We are light sleepers so a bathmat under the bedroom door solved the problem.

We visit Tucson often and will certainly consider staying here again.

Owner's Response: I agree about the refrigerator -- I'm glad you reminded me. Time for a replacement. (When I bought this one, there were few choices for 3/4 size; there are more now.) There is a coffee mill (I agree it's important, grind my own beans daily). It's in the left cupboard with cooking pots, toaster, etc. I'll be sure to tell future tenants to please speak to me if they're missing anything. It was a pleasure having you both here. Thanks.

Very Disappointed-Owners dogs allowed

  • 1 of 5

The apartment is located in a desirable neighborhood with easy access to downtown, markets, zoo and other activities as described. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pans and utensils. However, based on the excellent reviews posted and the owner property description; to our dismay it was not quite what we expected. Our VRBO search criteria were no pets only to discover upon arrival the owner, who resides on the premises, had two dogs that we shared the pool area with. They were let out to do their business, which was not immediately cleaned up by the owner. It was hot and we opted not to use the pool. The patio furniture needed wiped down prior to using; I would discourage the use of the gazebo due to excessive bird droppings and lack of cleanliness. The garden atmosphere can be described as Unkempt rather than Lush (photo is dated). The laundry facility was located in the shed, but be mindful of walking back there to not step in dog muck. The apartment had a musty odor that lingered into the bed linen, the pillows required additional cleaning; the showerhead needs to be replaced. The TV was in the den with a couch that was very uncomfortable; the TV did have premium HD channels but you watched on an 18-year-old Sony Trinitron analog set.

Owner's Response: I always appreciate suggestions. I have replaced older pillows. Already planning to install a modern HD-TV. I will replace the shower head. I don't believe I ever suggested there were no dogs here (friendly, small, older). If anyone prefers, they need only tell me, and the dogs will use the other two patios and never overlap with guests. The "unkempt" garden is probably going to stay that way, because I like it generous and unstructured. I suspect these guests and I ran into each other over fragrance. Against my house rules, they used scented laundry products. They also left a powerful air-freshener scent permeating the apartment when they left. Maybe my (always clean) linens smelled "musty" to them because they're accustomed to these perfumes. Anyway, I'm sorry they didn't have a good experience. I hope they'll be happier next time somewhere else.

This is a simply furnished apartment conveniently in central Tucson. My husband and I stayed here a number of days and found it exceedingly comfortable for two people for an extended stay: a very well-stocked kitchen, good lighting, lots and lots of storage in closets, drawers, kleenix, good bath and bed linens, comfortable bed, an easy-to-use heating and cooling system, and of course, the fabulous patio and pool. Bina told us the patio area would be for us while we were there, so we felt comfortable being out there. Sadly, it was too cold to try the pool. Clearly, Bina has thought about the comfort of her guests. Since we were there a number of days it was great to have access to her washer and dryer. We appreciated that Bina wanted to be there to greet us when we arrived.

Owner's Response: Thank you -- I do think about the comfort of my guests. Since I just put the new remote cover on the pool, some of winter's cold got into the water before it was covered. The solar heat plus that cover should make it now warm enough to swim by March, maybe even by February. I'm so glad you enjoyed staying here. Bina

The apartment is conveniently located in 'Central' Tucson, about 4 miles from the University of Arizona and with easy access to downtown, the Foothills, hiking in the Catalina mountains or Sabino Canyon, and (one block away) Reid and Randolph Parks with tennis, golf, biking, an excellent zoo, and many indoor activities. Tucson has more than its share of good restaurants (supported by its many visitors). The city's wonderful art-movie house ('The Loft') is nearby, as are several malls with shops and movie complexes.

The neighborhood itself is catalogued as nationally 'Historic' and has mostly professional inhabitants. There are no sidewalks or streetlights; it's very pleasant for walking.
