Nestled in a beautiful country neighborhood, Sunset Hale is an enchanting place to enjoy your vacation. The hale is privately situated on the bottom 1/3 of our family's acre. With mountains rising behind you and farm animals adding to the rural landscape, in this setting, it's hard to imagine that the world's most beautiful and pristine beaches are, literally, just down the road. WORLD-RENOWNED SUNSET BEACH IS A THREE MINUTE WALK. And more than 20 other world premier surfing spots are just minutes away, including Banzai Pipeline and Waimea Bay. Spectacular and magnificent beaches abound on the North Shore . . . all awaiting your exploration.
Our cottage was lovingly built in 2008. This stand alone bungalow was designed for island living with an open floor plan and high beamed ceiling. A large central skylight allows you to watch the stars at night while lying in the comfort of your California King sized bed. Smooth and cool lava rock covers the floors. Stunning 'island style' furnishings help you to know you have arrived in Hawaii. One of our local artists has graced our hale with exquisite polynesian style carvings. Furniture is either handcrafted or imported from Southeast Asia.
After a day in the sun you can rinse off in one of our two rain showers: Our INDOOR marble & lava oversized walk in shower, or our large, private OUTDOOR shower. Evenings can be spent lounging on our covered lanai, barbecuing and dining alfresco or relaxing inside with our 46 inch flat screen TV. If you desire a more active nightlife, Haleiwa town offers restaurants, bars and entertainment.
Fabulous eating options abound on the North Shore: A scenic 15 minute drive in either direction offers a sumptuous variety of local, international or resort cuisine. Locally grown fruit and vegetable stands are just down the road. Ted's Bakery is just around the corner (Chocolate Haupia Pies!). We also have a delightful grocery store, Foodland (complete with Starbucks), which is just 10 minutes away.
The tree-lined bike and walking path across the street makes the Saturday's Farmers Market a fun and easy walk or ride. Luscious tropical fruits, flowers and local artwork are plentiful. Historic Haleiwa town, an old whaling village, has become a shopper's paradise and restaurant-lovers delight. Yet it still maintains it's old town charm.
Every conceivable water activity is easily available to you here: Surfing, Sunbathing, Diving, Snorkeling, Tide Pools, Whale Watching, Fishing, Jet Skiing and more. Lessons are available for anyone with a desire to learn.
In addition to exploring our magnificent beaches, there are countless activities for the energetic visitor. There are fabulous hiking trails including the trail to Waimea Falls. Other must-sees for the active visitor are Waimea Botanical Gardens, Polynesian Cultural Center, Haleiwa Town, Turtle Bay Resort with it's Arnold Palmer designed golf course, ocean view spa and horseback riding.
The winter months bring added excitement when the waves swell to huge proportions and pro surfers from all over the world assemble to compete in the Triple Crown of Surfing. This is a fabulous spectator sport not to be missed if you are fortunate enough to visit during this time. You can always find sheltered beaches and smaller waves to enjoy the water if the huge ones 'aren't your thing'.

Aloha and welcome to the North Shore!
The Kennedy Family
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2005
Our family loves the North Shore of Oahu! It is what Hawaii is all about . . . a magnificent tropical destination where you can immerse yourself in a warm culture, while experiencing a wide variety of island activities.
Our family has lived on the islands of Hawaii for over 20 years. We love the uniqueness of each island, but we are especially fond of Oahu's North Shore. Here we experience an older 'laid back' vibe that is reminiscent of 'Old Hawaii.' Because we are a family of surfers we feel fortunate to live on these beaches that are the 'best in the world.'
The North Shore offers so much to visitors and locals alike and we are delighted to share our Hale with you. Our manager, Alia Kennedy, is a fourth generation born island girl (woman). She will be happy to answer any questions or give you tips from her knowledge and experience of the North Shore as well as the whole island of Oahu.
We loved it here, it was such a cool structure with a great open space full of light and greenery. It was beautiful and very clean. We loved the outdoor hammock and bbq for s’mores. It’s a short road to the beach which we rode our bikes to. Also rode to Ted’s bakery for breakfast. Just a very nice and relaxing getaway. We also loved the goat and sheep that visited us! We will be back.
A perfect vrbo-privacy, wonderful and beautiful decor and setting . Lots of effort was made to make this a perfect vrbo. Thank you for our great time at your hale-it is one of our favorite vrbos ever and will definitely want to stay here again
What a lovely little one room place. This place was very clean, beautifully decorated, had an outside shower (so you can remove the sand from your body after coming back from the great beach), extra towels, plenty of dishes, silverware, pots and pans, some condiments, shampoo/conditioner, BBQ and even laundry detergent, etc. We would definitely rent this place again, but it needs privacy curtains...ESPECIALLY on the front doors!! The little apartment is in the back of their yard. The owners may never walk to the back to visit us, but they may need to collect an escapee goat (which did happen) at night. It's uncomfortable to undress, walk out of the shower nude, or get comfortable with your spouse, etc. Also, the pillows gave no support to the head. We had to use the decorative pillows and beach towels that we bought to support our heads. We enjoyed meeting Alia, she was a delightful person! We would have given 5 stars, but privacy and pillows were a BIG issue!
A simple walk across the field and down the road to the beach...all of three minutes. We embraced the hale for it's cleanliness, function, and setting. Especially liked the heated outdoor shower! We came to know the roosters on a first named basis and will always hold fond aloha for the charming black goat...he/she was very friendly. Stay here and enjoy Aloha.
It's true, this is what all VRBOs should be. Except for any food you may want, the owners provide virtually anything you might need, from tissues to earplugs, it's like home away from home. Although the owners are on the property, you won't know it unless you need them. The hale is very private, sort of country living at the beach. The skylight provides a relaxing view of the stars at night but if you are a sleeper who craves darkness, just bring a sleep mask. I am one of those sleepers but had no issues. Also, while there is no AC, the cross breezes and provided fans worked fine. There is a shortcut from the hale to the road, you'll find it. The Foodland, and some food trucks, are approximately two miles down the road, Ehukai about one mile and Sunset Beach a few minutes walk. In the other direction Ted's Bakery, which also has good plate lunches, is a ten minute walk and don't forget Banzai Bowls adjacent to the Texaco station.
My husband and I stayed at the hale for our honeymoon, and we could not have asked for a better experience. The hale had everything we needed from beach towels, beach chairs, and a washer and dryer, to personal care items, and q-tips! It was also very clean, the bed was super comfortable and there was every type of meal prep item needed for a great meal in. The hale was just a 3 minute walk, in my opinion, the best beach on the north shore. While we stayed here, there was a surfing competition, so that provided great entertainment while lounging on the beach. It is also just a few minutes from the food-truck park and the grocery store. All-in-all a great location!
We would recommend staying at the hale to anyone looking for a relaxing, quiet, beautiful vacation. We hope to make it back here in the near future!
