Cottage on Waterfront Acreage near Tofino Beaches

Bedrooms 2
Space 900 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath; hot tub; fire pit; private garden

Our cottage is mid way between Tofino centre and Chesterman's Beach (one of our famous Surf beaches) and more or less across from Mackenzie Beach. The bike path goes in both directions and we offer bicycles for our guests to use if they don't feel like walking the twenty minutes or driving the five minutes to Chesterman beach or the village. After a day of surfing or whale watching our guests love to warm up in our hot tub, which is set in a beautiful private forest glade overlooking the water. Our five acre forested property is magnificent; there are trees that are over 300 years old, both cedar and spruce, and the property borders the tidal waters of Tofino Inlet. At high or low tide this provincially designated wildlife sanctuary is a bread basket for innumerable species of birds in spring and fall. It is also the habitat of Black Bear, River Otters, mink & raccoons as well as a pair of eagles, which have a longstanding nest in a giant spruce on the property. The views over the water are always changing; at low tide it looks like an endless green lawn extending for miles between the islands and we often see wolves out on the flats, and at high tide it is back to the sea again and then it is time to launch a canoe and go exploring. You can check out photos of the cottage by googling Red Crow in Tofino. District of Tofino business lic #20180533

About The Owner

We have owned our five acre property since 1989 and the cottage was built in 1991 and is detailed with cedar cut from the property. We run the the Red Crow Guest House (on the same property), which along with our cottage is available Spring thru Fall; over the past 20+ years we have hosted wonderful guests from all over the world.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1991

Why The Owner chose Tofino

This is the most stunning piece of inlet property with magnificent huge ancient cedars, many over 400 years old; there is a magic about this land that captivated me the moment I stepped onto it and we built our house here with much care so as to disturb the beauty and integrity of the property as little as possible.

What makes this cottage unique

This property offers a tranquility and privacy and is a place where you can settle in and take it easy for a while. The abundance of cedar detailing makes the cottage feel warm and cozy but it is spacious enough for people to spread out and enjoy different activities in different areas. You can enjoy a game of checkers or chess at the board table in the kitchen/dining room or lounge on the bench seat or just daydream out the window while curled up on the sweet window seat in the living room. The bed alcove overlooking the garden is a delicious place to wake up and enjoy coffee in bed. You will find that time seems to stand still in this little oasis.

Cabin in Tofino

  • 2 of 5

This is a very cute property, however the cabin does not have a water view as advertised here. It was very disappointing. I had been dreaming before our arrival of watching the water and then after travelling nearly 9 hours, we see that the cabin was in the woods. The main residence is on the water and you can walk to the water and enjoy the canoes, however the cabin is in the woods and you feel like you're on someone else's property when you visit the water. I never saw the bikes that were advertised, however I'm sure I could've gone to the main house and asked for them. And though I appreciated the warning about wildlife in the area (wolves), the 20 minute talk about how wolves dessimated the town's pet population and how I shouldn't go on any of the beaches alone with my two German Shepherds was a bit off-putting. It made me super-paranoid the entire trip. I couldn't even let my dogs out to do their business without checking to see if a wolf pack was ready to eat us all. I was also scared to let them off-leash on the beach due to the warning. From others I have talked to since this, it seems that the warning could be tamed back just a bit so folks can enjoy themselves, be aware of the surroundings but without being scared to walk out the door. With that said, Stefan was a lovely host. He provided lots of information on the area and great options for dinner. Restaurants in Tofino were amazing, especially Shelter and Wolf in the Fog, which were both recommended by Stefan.

Owner's Response: Dear Lisa, Thank you for your feedback. We do take every guest feedback very seriously and try to improve our guest experience in every aspect. We have rented our Garden Cottage for many years ( more exactly 24) and hosted probably thousands of guests in this years and nobody was under impression that you have an ocean view from the cottage window. As it is stated in our description: our property does border the water and you can enjoy the complimentary canoes that we offer and enjoy views from there. The cottage is tucked in between the old growth forest and the closest view of the ocean is from the hot-tub. In regards to my wolf warning I am truly sorry if I had scared you. When I mentioned the recent sightings you actually told me you have wolfs right in your back yard so your dogs are very used to that. Now the "super-paranoid " state did not come from the wolf sightings in the area, I think it came from some substances that you had indulged during your stay; we clearly mentioned in our description that we are a non smoking property ( and did not referred to only cigarettes) as after your departure it took us a while to air the space and clear the odors. Even if it was for medicinal use we would have appreciated if it was smoked somewhere away from the doorways or windows as not everybody enjoys that odor. Thank you again for your feedback and we wish you all the best!

Our favourite family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Another terrific week at Red Crow Garden Cottage. We took the canoes out for an early morning paddle, rode the bikes, relaxed in the hot tub, sat in the garden and watched hummingbirds, fell asleep to the hooting of owls and explored Pacific Rim Park end to end. This is the ideal place to stay and Stefan and Juanette are wonderful hosts. Hope we can return soon.

The perfect spot for a couples get-away; would be great for families, too!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 5 days at the cottage and enjoyed every minute. Every aspect is comfortably and inviting. There is no bathtub and the shower is on the small side, but that would be the only drawback, and certainly not one that would prevent us from visiting again. In fact, we're looking forward to our next stay!

Yeah, it was rainy, but it wasn't constant and it really didn't matter; there seems to be a magical energy in the area that is spirit lifting regardless of the weather. And the sky cleared up one night for a memorable hot tub under the stars among the giant red cedars, followed by a bonfire in the garden. We were out and about so much (beach walks, poking around Tofino, driving up to Ucluelet, etc.) that we never did use the canoes. Next time! All in all, thumbs up on this one. Even the dog was relaxed and at home.

True Tofino cottage experience!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two days at the Red Crow cottage and I wish it could be more. The hot-tub tucked in the rainforest, the complimentary canoe's are just an amazing added touch. It was pouring rain for the two days, but the little wood burning fireplace kept us very cosy and thank you for all the board games and cards.

The cottage is very clean and neat and equipt with all the necessary appliances for cooking or baking. The garden is beautiful and perfect place for an outdoor picnic or just relaxation. It is also very close to town and all the beaches. Will be back!

There is a brand new zip line in the area; watch for the sign on the right not far after the mountain pass between Port Alberni & Tofino. It is approximately an hour from Tofino.
