Why Margaret McFarland chose Port Hood
The area reminded us of Cape Cod-40 years ago-except no traffic, uncrowded beaches and the Gaelic influence. Cape Breton Island has truly astounding scenery,(We are @ 1 1/2 hours to the Cabot Trail, with wonderful hiking trails and scenic drives everywhere in between.
What makes this Cottage unique
We enjoy the beautiful sandy beach in front of the cottage, a place where if you're lucky, you might see bald eagles teaching their young. We love seeing the fishing boats heading home in the late afternoon. (We hope they're heavy with lobsters) Lobsters are available all summer, but the fishing season for them is June. (Reasonable and delicious!)

Great location and beach
This is our second time renting this property and we thoroughly enjoyed it both times. It is great to be walking distance from the beach and the view of Port Hood Island are amazing.
When my husband and I saw the property for the first time on line we thought it was a great looking cottage with a lovely view of the ocean.
When we arrive at the cottage we new we did the right choose.
It had everything we needed, was a walking distance to Port Hood beach. We enjoyed having breakfast every morning with the lovely view of the ocean and Port Hood Island the view was breath taking
Over all the property was excellent in and out
A beatiful cottage
It was an enjoyable sunset-ocean-view cottage experience in a quiet town with great beaches for sunbathing and exploring. The cottage was very clean and comfortable with all the amenities. A grocery store was a 10 minute walk away and the liquor store was a five minute drive away. What more could you ask for?
Thanks for the nice review! I agree that the cottage is well situated for a great beach vacation.Welcome back any time !
Beautiful spot, great weather and good company!
Sounds like you had a great vacation!
Thank you for taking good care of the cottage.
Great location. Nice home.
We had a great week in Port Hood. The house is right across the street from the lifeguard beach and views are amazing. The house was the perfect size and was nice and clean. The only downside was how hot the house got in the afternoon sun. We happened to be there during a hot week and the house was uncomfortably hot each afternoon because the afternoon sun shone right into through the second story windows. Other than that, everything was perfect.
This has been an unbelievably hot summer-almost everywhere in the world.
I agree that shades would be helpful on those high windows.
Thanks for your review. I appreciate that you took good care of the cottage.
Very comfortable and enjoyable cottage. Perfect balance between high class and cozy. the kids and the dog enjoyed it very much and so did the grownups! The beach is beautiful and the water is swimmable. We found sea glass and ate lots of lobster from the COOP fish market, located really close to the cottage. The view from the second floor are absolutely stunning. We had everything one could ever need and the roses are so fragrant and beautiful! The location of Port Hood was perfect for us, close enough to every wonderful attraction in Cape Breton.
Wonderful review! I'm happy you enjoyed your time at the cottage. This part of Cape Breton has so much to offer. Love the music, the beach, the lobster and the amazing beauty of the area.
Come back again, you are always welcome.
The nearby ice rink( 5 min walk) is available for skating, off season. In season, there is swimming (heated pool) and exercise equipment availalbe for public use. (small fee) The cottage is located @ 40 minutes from Cabot Links, a spectacular links golf course on the ocean in Inverness.
