About this property

Holiday home Casa La Pintora, beach 2km, nice garden hiking, nature park, AGAETE

Only 2km from the beach, above the village of El Risco (Agaete territory), Casa La Pintora, "the painters house" offers its studio-like accommodation for 2 guests.

A queen-size bed (1,50x2,00m), CD stereo unit, WiFi, DSL Internet by cable and a little SatTV (Astra) are awaiting you. The convertible sofa can be used as an additional bed for a child.

The Canary Islands artist Ana Luisa Benítez restored the little cottage in traditional style for her painting excursions in the nature park.
A resting place below a palm tree and a nice enclosed garden a few steps upwards are places for dreaming and relaxing. The view to the surrounding Tamadaba mountains invites for hiking. A spectacular star filled sky glitters at new moon nights.

At low tide on calm days you will be surprised by a wide sandbank and a shallow beach down on the coast, 5 minutes by car and a little walk away. Even in summer an insider´s tip.
Only 150 meters above sea level und protected from the trade winds and clouds by the mountains of the biosphere reserve, El Risco provides one of the best microclimates of Gran Canaria.

Cafe-bar-restaurant and a traditional corner´s shop are a walk away down in the village. In the old town of Agaete and its fishing port, 15km away, you will find supermarket, shops, cash machine and more restaurants.

Beautiful serene cottage with breathtaking views.
We loved staying in this charming cottage. The outdoor seating areas were beautiful and spent relaxing having breakfast and drinks in eve looking at the stars. The place was clean and cosy with great facilities to cook and chill out We recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a peaceful get away in a stunning location

2/10 Terrible

Really Disappointed!
My wife and I had a terrible time staying at Casa La Pintora due to expectations not met. Contrary to owner's beautiful photographs (he is a professional photographer) the studio is not big, the space feel tight even for just two people, it is not clean and it has only one window and that looks into the stone wall of his other apartment next door, the others are just small openings high up and a tiled skylight or two in the roof. When we mentioned our concerns to owner, he said there is no problem, so we proceeded to go on. We found the ventilation is poor (a bit smelly) and the house is not level, it has a couple of single steps and the bed is on platform, so it is quite dangerous to walk around. There are quite a few other complaints but I will not go into details, the upshot is that when we contacted the owner and asked if we can upgrade to his apartment next door, which was empty, he refused giving us some meek excuses (eg. we found the drive from Agaete is challenging and I don't know what that has to do with anything), so we left early and he refused to give us a refund for the 3 days we were not there. It is not the money or the external environment, it was a most unpleasant way for us to spend indoor, it felt like a prison and we have to thank the owner and his unfriendly and untruthful attitude for that!

About the host

Why they chose this property

The microclimate of Gran Canaria is rather pronounced. The valley of El Risco on the west coast is protected by the mountains of the Tamadaba Natural Park from the trade winds in winter times and provides one of the best locations on the island.
Casa La Pintora is a offically registerd holiday home in the "Vivienda turistica" category.

What makes this property unique

Restoring this cottage the Canary Islands artist Ana Luisa Benítez adhered stylistically confident to the elements of traditional canarian architecture: Natural stone, old wooden beams, an inside cane covered roof.
The house seems to hide inside the magnificent environment and radiates warmth and harmony in its straightforwardness.
The enclosed garden, surrounded by palm trees, opens the view to the hiking destinations and hilltops of the Tamadaba Nature Park.
The breakfast place beyond our own palm tree looks as though painted in the landscape.
