Beautiful Custom-Built Cabin on the Shields River

Situated on 35 private acres in the Shields Valley, bordered by the Shields River, this 1600 sq ft custom-built cabin has a rustic, stucco and log exterior with large porches on the front and back.

There is a full kitchen with a convection oven, large microwave, five-burner gas stove, dishwasher and refrigerator. Custom cabinets, Italian tile, in-floor heat, and concrete countertops are some of the extra features in this room. Sunrise breakfast nook!

The living room has comfortable leather furniture with a large flat-screen television. This room includes views of the Absaroka Mountains, wood floors, high ceilings and a gas fireplace with a river rock hearth. The loft above has windows for a wonderful view of wildlife, and a daybed with a trundle bed for extra sleeping accomodations and relaxing or reading/napping.

The dining room has two large windows with a view of Sheep Mountain, the Crazy Mountains and the countryside. It also has two sliding glass doors that open out to a large screened in porch suitable for dining in warm weather. There is a seven burner gas grill for entertaining on the back deck.

The two bedrooms have queen-size beds and private access to bathrooms, one featuring a jetted tub and the other a steam shower.

About the host

Host profile image
My husband and I have lived in this area for over 20 years. I moved here from Virginia and he is a Montana native. We both love to hike, fish, camp, hunt, ski, etc. We also like the laid-back lifestyle in Montana. It is the perfect place for dogs, and we have great neighbors. We love the beautiful mountain views, the river behind us and all of the natural surroundings that make Montana a great place.

Why they chose this property

We built this cabin here because we live here and we love this area. The agricultural surroundings are very peaceful and full of wildlife and songbirds.

What makes this property unique

Aside from all the beautiful natural surroundings it is the people of this valley that make life enjoyable here. The Shields Valley is still a relatively undeveloped ranching and farming community. The small towns around us; Livingston, Clyde Park and Wilsall still have an authentic western look and feel. They host local events such as; rodeos, branding parties and dances with a real sense of tradition and community.
