Nice but even earplugs won't block the noise of the roosters!

  • 3 of 5

The place is very nice and Nancy and Ana were very friendly. Things were clean and comfortable. There were men on the roof while I was taking a shower and pretty sure they saw me! Now onto the very bad thing..... every night at 3:15am a rooster/chicken would crow.. but a crow like someone had tried to straggle it previously. And it didn't just crow once.. it crowed allllll morning! 3:00am - 10am. Even earplugs wouldn't be able to block out this noise.

Charming and Spacious but...

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was charming and spacious. The staff was wonderful and helpful, bringing us fresh fruit and muffins every morning. When we checked in a bottle of wine was waiting and we were presented with a delicious dish of guacamole (I actually craved it all week). Now for the negatives. It is a long walk to the jardin about 20 minutes which is fine in the morning but somewhat arduous coming home in the evening - steep uphill climb. The other negative is that even though the apartment is charming it is in need of a little TLC, bathroom facet loose, broken bedside lamp, etc. The other negatives, which have been covered in past reviews, are the roosters and the dog poop in the courtyard. Would we stay there again? Probably not but only because of the distance. We would prefer to be a little closer to town so that we could come back and forth during the day.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. We checked with google maps to confirm our estimate of walking time to the Jardin - 12 minutesa and it is mostly level. Perhaps you took an alternate route. Our neighbors dog and rooster are usually well behaved..The unit has just been repainted and your issues have been addressed. We are looking forward to your return.

Lovely space, great service, but roosters...

  • 3 of 5

The apartment is well appointed, has a terrific support staff, is immaculately clean and is really well located. The mattress and bed are wonderful and would be put to better use if the roosters (yes, more than one) next door didn’t start crowing at 3:00 am, every morning. I thought roosters crowed at dawn but we painfully learned that that is not the case. Clearly this is not the fault of the owners, nor is dealing with it in their control I imagine. But the roosters did destroy our sleep, the entire visit. A real shame because otherwise the casita is lovley. (Be a dog lover as well - there are 5 on the property.)

Pretty Casita: has some issues

  • 3 of 5

First, let me state that I am picky. I own a vacation rental in Mexico and manage four others so, I have high standards.

I’ll start with the good stuff: the staff: Ana, the housekeeper, Juan, the handyman and James, the property manager were very nice. The homeowners were away for the month, so I never met them: they did arrange a bottle of wine for me, which I never ended up drinking. Ana did laundry and brought me a plate of fresh fruit every morning. They supplied me with a bag of coffee, as well. The price was fair.

The bed is very comfortable – a big thumbs up! – and the furnishing and décor is just as shown. I stayed during February when the nights are chilly and the days warm. The gas fireplace is sweet and I used it on every morning, as well as the other gas heater. The WIFI is reliable and dependable. There is purified water a t the kitchen tap.

Now, my picky brain is going to tell you the things that bothered me. I believe in truth in advertising. It is a brisk – and I mean brisk– 15 minute walk to the jardin., and the walk back is up a deceptively-long uphill slope. And if it is only two blocks to Parque Juarez then they are Washington DC-type blocks. Get the picture?

Now, beyond the homeowners ability to control is the fact that the property next door is basically an urban farm, including at least more than a few gallos that start crowing at 3 am. Yes – you heard it right – 3 am and even earplugs do not dampen the sound of roosters very well.

The homeowners have five dogs, and very sweet dogs they are, but five dogs bark and throw themselves at the front steel door when they want out. I love dogs, but between the barking and the crowing and the trucks coming down the street with loudspeakers making announcements, it is pretty darn noisy. I never even realized how sensitive I was to sleep disturbance and noise until this stay. And I am 66 years old. Go figure.

The entrance to the casita is through the garage. Not so nice. They told me I could have access to the patio and the roof garden, but it is all attached to the main house and I did not feel comfortable invading that space. Or evading the dog poop in the patio. There is no outdoor space attached to the casita itself. There are no blackout curtains, so if, perchance, the patio light is left burning until late in the evening, you cannot block it out. If you are sensitive to light, bring a blindfold.

Again, I am picky, so buyer beware, now I am going to bitch: but the silver

Lovely stay in San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed our stay at Nancy's on Prolongacion Aldama, about 15 minutes easy walk to the Jardin. Nancy's shabby chic apartment was beautiful with comfortable seating, wonderful art pieces, and full of welcome light both natural and artificial. High quality linens on a high quality, very comfortable king size bed made for restful siestas and night time sleep, though we did need ear plugs at night. However, I found that to be true every where we stayed in Guanajuato, San Miguel, and Queretaro.

I enjoyed looking out the two 'floor to ceiling' windows to the main house patio, which we were not able to use, but that was ok. The kitchen was comfortable for cooking meals at any time of day.

The housekeeper Anna was warm, welcoming, and brought us fresh fruit most mornings. What a treat! Anna also took care of our laundry, although I also did my own the last night. Very convenient.

Yes, as stated in some of the other reviews, dogs barking and roosters crowing was part of the experience. But that did not bother me. In fact, when I got sick having had perhaps a bad sandwich down town, I was comfortable and happy to stay in bed all day, in this beautiful apartment, looking out windows at gorgeous light on the main charming stucco house fully covered in bougainvillea. I loved walking the adjoining streets, and near and through the peaceful park. We enjoyed drinks and meals at the Rosewood, and other top rated hotels nearby.

San Miguel is small, and yes there are hillside residential areas. This location has a very slow rise to its position, just below some grand hillside houses. 'Walking down' and 'walking up', is flat to and from this apartment. But you still have to navigate cobblestone streets, so wear appropriate shoes!

We were here for 8 nights, December 20 to 28th.

Yes, I would happily and gladly stay here again. Thank you Nancy!

Perfect oasis

  • 5 of 5

This flat is beautifully decorated exactly as shown in the photos. The owners actually deliver fresh fruit and pastries each morning, left us coffee and a bottle of wine, and delivered guacamole and fresh chips upon arrival.

The view is beautiful and the courtyard below is a real plus.

I will absolutely stay again when we return to San Miguel de Allende.
