About this property

Romantic Somers Bay Boathouse with Dock

This unique waterfront property is the last surviving boathouse with living quarters above it. From the road you will walk down a wooded path to a private incline tram system that will carry you a hundred feet down to a world of lake shore living. When you get to the covered open-air deck, it is complete with a Weber gas BBQ, patio heater, table, chairs and a swing for two. In 2015 we added a new deck to the front of the Boathouse. Stepping through the sliding glass door you will see that the living level is decorated with fishing motif. In the corner is a wood stove which can be enjoyed from the overstuffed sofa-bed. The kitchen is well-furnished with cooking utensils and all appliances except for a dishwasher. There is an adorable bath with shower only. Up the winder staircase is a loft bedroom with queen bed and step-in closet plus a dormer niche with a bench.

The Boathouse now has Smart TV and WIFI !!!!!!!!!!!!

The boathouse level is totally private. The lower level with the dock and lake area of the property is shared with the property owners and their guests occasionally. You have your own boat slip and have full access to the dock, beaches, swim area and swim ladders. Guests may enjoy having a bonfire in the fire pit when there are no fire restrictions, though you will have to provide your own wood. The lakefront also has a romantic footbridge, patio area with picnic table. You are welcome to use the canoe, paddle boat and (2)kayaks which are easily launched from the beach area.

Somers Bay Boathouse is conveniently located: 12 miles west of Bigfork which has live theater and dining; an hour from Glacier Park; 10 miles from historic downtown Kalispel; 5 miles from Lakeside which has a grocery store and dining; great restaurants are within 5 minutes driving toward downtown Somers. The street above the boathouse is part of a biking/walking path which takes you to historic Somers.

We had a fantastic time, very well kept property and the hosts were fantastic! Looking forward to returning. Very quiet, secluded, private location on a beautiful lake, right on the water.

Little piece of paradise
We are so thankful that we stumbled upon this gem of a rental. Everything was wonderful from booking to checkout. Earl and Karen have went above and beyond to allow others to enjoy this special place. We so needed the quite relaxation and what better place then flathead and Somers to provide this beauty. We will be planning a longer trip soon! Wonderful experience!

Wonderful little place to say right on the lake
My husband and I stayed at "the boathouse" for a week and had a fabulous time. The place has a ton of charm and a great location to get to surrounding area fun like Glacier Park etc. It was well equipped with quality pots and pans, barbque, kayaks, canoe and paddle boat. It has all the little things that are rare in a rental. Nice touches like wall mounted hair dryer, beach towels, good lighting on the stairs, decent shower, laundry and Karen left us some Huckleberry jam and soda which we thought was a nice touch. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck and swimming off the really nice dock. All in all, a perfect experience. We would definitely rent it again but shssh...don't tell anybody.:)

Fantastic Getaway with the Family
The family and I had a great week at the Boathouse. We spent most of our time swimming in the lake and exploring the area with the provided kayaks and canoe. My wife and I really loved our morning coffee out on the dock watching the bald eagles catch fish and enjoying a beer on the deck during the evenings. The kids really liked roasting marshmallows and hot dogs on the fire pit too! We hope to return next summer!

About the host

Hosted by Karen Bach

Host profile image
Earl and Karen are a middle aged couple with 2 adult children. We have owned the property since 2001. Earl began remodeling the boathouse in 2003 and finished it in 2005. We thought we would use it more than we did and decided rather than have it stay empty, we would share it with others. Karen enjoys being your host, and we have a professional house keeper do our cleaning.

Why they chose this property

Quiet, private setting, right on the water and it is centrally located near many of our tourist attractions.

What makes this property unique

Where to start...the way the property is set up, it feels like we don't hardly have any neighbors, which contributes to the privacy. The view is gorgeous and changes constantly. There are many birds/water fowl, including bald eagles (though they don't come around as much once the osprey move in for the summer). Even though there is so much to do in the area, many guests claim they find it hard to leave the boathouse.
