About this property

Charming 18th Century Country Home with Pool & Beautiful View of the Luberon!

Welcome to L’Etoile, an 18th century, provencal stone country holiday home situated between Roussillon and Gordes – two of the most beautiful villages in Provence!

Located in a small hamlet, L’Etoile means: “The Star” – and you’ll see why at night when thousands of stars blanket the night sky!

L'Eotile sits on over an acre of land with stunning views of the surrounding Luberon valley and the hill top village of Roussillon.

The property is very well positioned, facing south overlooking the valley, olive groves, orchards and vineyards and just a short drive to all of the famous hilltop villages of Provence.

The three story house has been recently renovated by one of the best renovation masters in Provence. It’s perfect for up to 8 people and a great setup for two families.

One of the best features of the house is the large pool and summer kitchen, with gorgeous views of the gardens, the olive groves, vineyards and the village of Roussillon.

Here’s what’s included.

Summer Kitchen and Pool:

One of the best parts of L’Etoile, there is an additional stone house that serves as the pool house and summer kitchen. The cozy kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, dishwasher and all the cookware and dinnerware to serve a party of 10.

There is an open fireplace for cooking and a two burner gas stove. There is also a half bath inside the building and a private outdoor shower area with hot and cold water that you will love to use.

The beautiful building opens fully on to the large pool and gardens in the summer. The gardens are very secluded and are full of lavender bushes, roses, herbs, fruit trees, and seasonal blooming varieties which are all surrounded by a grove of olive trees that create a wonderful afternoon shade and privacy.

There are plenty of places to lounge by the pool or read and nap in the shade of the trees. At night, the sky is completely taken over by the constellations. It is amazing to view the nighttime sky in such a beautiful natural setting. We frequently marvel at the many shooting stars!

In the summertime you can cook and enjoy your meals in the summer kitchen by the pool. When the nights are cooler, light the fireplace and enjoy your meals inside by the fire.

The weekly rental price includes 3 hours of house cleaning per week. Also, free Wi-Fi and free calls to France and the US are included.

Fabulous home in the Luberon
Absolutely beautiful home in the Luberon. Quintessential Provencal stone home. Charming, comfortable, clean and well-located. Swimming pool was essential during the heat wave which adults and children enjoyed. Fans in rooms helped a lot. The summer kitchen by the pool was convenient and had everything needed to enjoy outside. Views were more beautiful than described with Roussillon in the near distance. The grounds were well kept with pretty flowers and lavender in bloom. Altogether, a stunning and spacious home, perfect for a family. Better than the pictures depict. Would definitely like to return.

Family holiday at l'Etoile
We had a very relaxing week at l'Etoile - both in the cool of the house and down by the pool and in the summer kitchen. We felt very French in the Provencal surroundings and enjoyed the views across olive groves and vineyards towards Roussillon and the hills behind. Roussillon itself was a great bonus both as the nearest place to visit (charming and quirky) and to shop in (to our surprise the various food shops were open even on Sunday morning and all were excellent and friendly). The village was particularly useful to us as it was unseasonably hot during our stay and we had a small baby with us, so we did not go out and about on day trips and visits as much as we had expected to - in fact, it was very tempting to stay put in the comfort of the house! The house manager, Karima, and her team were delightful and helpful, and we found that nearly everything had been thought of for us, or was readily available and easily explained. Steve, the house owner, could not have been more friendly and ready to answer questions both before and during our stay and his 'house book' with information and instructions was invaluable. The only reasons I have not given five stars throughout my review are that we were slightly bothered by noise from the road down the hill when we left the windows open at night (it was very hot...), and had expected it to be quieter. Also, we had not appreciated that there would be several other houses in the immediate vicinity and that their occupants would have to drive between the house and the pool and the summer kitchen for access. Again, not really a problem - most of the houses were unoccupied while we were there, though one had dogs that barked (one of which visited us several times!) and another had building works (quiet ones) during the day. But this might have been more of an issue if we had had small children rather than a baby? Also, one thing I had forgotten was that June evenings are longer and lighter than in, say, July or August, so the light from the sun lingered in the West. In many ways this was lovely - sitting out on the warm evenings was a highlight - but it did mean that it was not really dark even by the time we went to bed! I think later in the summer would be better for star gazing... Overall, everything was very comfortable, the kitchens were easy to use and well equipped, the bathrooms were definitely 5*, and we enjoyed our stay enormously.

Didn't want to leave
We just spent a week with our kids (10 and 12) and my parents in law at l'Etoile. The house was everything we had hoped for and so much more. Looking at the beautiful pictures in the listing it may be hard to believe they really do the place justice, but they really do. The setting was great: very close to both Roussillon and Gordes (a 10-12 minute drive to either). The location itself was very quiet and peaceful - there are some other nearby houses, but otherwise you're surrounded by olive groves and wineyards. The house is divided in to two buildings - the main house and the pool house/summer kitchen. We adored the summer kitchen and spent almost all our time at the house there. There were several parasols and very comfortable lounge furniture, plus a killer view! The house was well equipped and all the furniture and amenities were high standard and very comfortable. My husband in particular enjoyed the Nespresso machines! The one thing I would say is that I probably would not stay at this house with toddlers. The stairs down into the summer kitchen do not have a railing and the stairs in the main house are spiral and though they have a railing are very open and could be difficult with an exploring toddler. Finally, to boot, the host was very responsive and helpful.

We love Provence and we love this old country house. It's the perfect place for our vacations with our friends and families. It's perfectly situated between Roussillon and Gordes so we have the best of both worlds. We can easily access village life and markets within minutes and then easily return to the peace and quiet of the Luberon countryside. We have 3 children of our own - they love L'Eotile - so the house is perfect for kids of all ages.

Why they chose this property

We love this area. It's home to us and our children. We have been vacationing in this area of Provence for about 14 years. For us, this is the perfect location between Gordes & Roussillon, two of the most beautiful hilltop villages in Provence. We're close enough to the town to get our daily baguette and croissants. But we're far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of the country side, hear the birds sing and see thousands of stars at night.

Plus, we are a short drive from many of the things we love: antique shopping at L'isle sur la Sorgue, spending a day in Lourmarin or Avignon, or a short drive to the French Riviera. But mostly, we love the people here. Everyone here is so nice and helpful.

What makes this property unique

In the summertime, we love spending the day outside by the pool. The pool is surrounded by a nice olive grove and some lavender and roses and the kids love it (so do the adults!). We have a pool house with a fully stocked kitchen, a large fireplace and plenty of seating. So, most days, we have lunch and dinner out by the pool. And, because it's a fully outfitted kitchen, we don't have to haul food, cookware and dishes back and forth to the main house. Everything is right there in the Summer Kitchen.

In the cooler months, we have dinner inside across from a big, roaring fire. It's very cozy and quiet in the winter months. Perfect place to unwind.

During the day, we usually go to one of the many, famous Provencal markets in the surrounding towns - all about 10-15 minutes away. There are plenty of places to shop and buy antiques. There are about a dozen or so vineyards within 10 km from the house, and about 2-3 just down the road.

There's no shortage of hiking trails and national parks. In fact, there's a great hiking trail right behind our house that leads up to the top of the hill overlooking Lioux and the great big stone wall. It's breathtaking to see that view from the top of the mountain and only about a 10 minute hike.
