About this property

A gorgeous, secluded, rustic farmhouse with large pool and magnificent views

Gleyaire is a family home bursting with rustic charm, and over the years has proved to be the most perfect place to enjoy with family and friends without any of the day to day distractions.
The young especially thrive and there is no need to go anywhere: the large 12m x 6m pool is a natural focus, with sun-loungers, umbrellas and plenty of space. When not by the pool enjoy boules, ping-pong, swings, hammocks and free use of the local tennis court in the village. There are acres to roam with wooded trails and wildlife everywhere, hours of fun to be had.
Popular activities such as canoeing, riding, golf and bicycle-hire are all available nearby.

The house itself is large and spacious, with 2 king size double and 2 twin bedrooms and a 4 bed dormitory (at one end of the house for those noisy little ones!). Luxury mattresses (except dormitory) with Egyptian cotton linen mean you will sleep well. There are terraces on each side of the house allowing for shade/sun at any time. The large balcony behind the house has seating for 12 and stunning views across the valley below. The smaller terrace to the front is perfect for some morning sun.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need to feed 12, and there are 4 bathrooms, a dining room, living room and laundry room.

There is a 'market day' most days in one of the local villages, as well as annual fêtes for some evening fun. A morning run to Touffailles or Bourg de Visa for croissants and pains au chocolat soon becomes part of the ritual.

Toulouse and Bergerac international airports are both just over an hour away. The historic hill town of Lauzerte is 8 miles away, and Moissac with its beautiful cloisters is also nearby.
Other attractions include Rocamadour, Albi, the dramatic 'Gorges du Tarn', the Pyrenees, canoeing on the Lot, Aveyron and Cele rivers, the wines of Cahors, restaurants, truffles, paté de fois gras etc.

About the host

Our father Peter, an architect, fell in love with Gleyaire and its setting in 1989 whilst holidaying with friends. It was a ruin with trees growing through the roof, but that did not put Dad off and after many years of love, sweat, laughter, hassle and fun, Gleyaire is enjoying a second wind.
It has been a source of many happy adventures for not just our family (Peter has 5 children), but many friends too.

Why they chose this property

The house appeals because of it's utter privacy, and romanticism. One really feels as if they are in the elements with all the insect life and wild flowers surrounding it... not a house in sight.
It is a destination in itself, with no need to venture farther afield. It feels as if many good times have been enjoyed here over the last few hundred years.

What makes this property unique

Gleyaire has always been a happy place, and somewhere to go for peace and refuge. Believe it or not, many people have met and fallen in love here, and I can see why.
