About this property

Height of Dunedin Hideaway

Welcome to Height of Dunedin. Relax in a newly renovated and double-glazed 1-bedroom cottage in the misty clouds and experience a NZ semi-rural style living. A sunny, clean and tidy, 44 square metre, 2-room detached guesthouse sits behind our house in the heart of a unique 6-acre property. You are nestled below awesome pine trees with a well-appointed courtyard garden.

Our express, local flavours breakfast is complimentary and includes Harraways flavoured quick oats with your choice of milk, muesli bar, free-range eggs from our hens, fresh seasonal fruit and toast with Otago honey or homemade jam or marmalade.
Or if you'd prefer to upgrade our pancake kit is available for pre-order for $35 including pancake mix, homemade jam, fruit, white choc drops, Barker’s butterscotch caramel sauce, maple syrup, yoghurt and a waffle iron.

Height of Dunedin is a peaceful, tranquil hideaway slightly out of the city. We are a 5km drive to a supermarket, cafes and restaurants. It is a direct 10 minutes’ drive to the Octagon and local sites. Recharge with a wine under the private outdoor veranda. Be amazed by the magnificent Milky Way. Catch a shooting star and the Southern Cross wonderfully clear away from city lights.

Would you like to book a farm tour with our sons Leo and Toby (10,7) who will show you around with an opportunity to ask questions, feed, pet and have close encounters with goats, deer and chickens? $10 cash.
If time doesn't permit you can hand feed the pet animals in a self-guided tour and awaken to the morning chorus of local birdlife. Bird watch for these species that are either resident or fly in seasonally: tuis, bellbirds, rosella parrots, wood pigeons, magpies, paradise ducks, hawks, owls and pet hens.

All this at 350 metres above sea level guarantees some snow falls during winter and beautiful, picturesque surroundings.

Beautifully Appointed Home, limited kitchen
The owner is on site, so was very responsive to needs. Everything needed was provided, and the owner left lots of information about things to see and do in the area and places to eat. The mini bar concept in a vrbo was a little confusing to us, so we did not use any of the food items except hot beverages (which seemed to be a standard offering in NZ vrbos). The bedroom and bathroom were both fantastic but, if you're more than a couple, be aware that the extra bed is at one end of the common area and the bathroom is accessed through the bedroom door.

Farm stay review
My sister and I immensely enjoyed our stay. We found our accommodation very clean, warm and tidy with comfortable beds, little road noise, no annoying street lights and woke to beautiful bird song in the morning. Our hosts were very friendly, helpful and we enjoyed our farm tour with goats, deer and hens. Thankyou for such an enjoyable experience.

Absolute gem
The part of Wingatui I grew upnin has been consumed by property developers now, but Height of Dunedin gave me the dawn chorus of birds and Little Owls calling at night that I remember from childhood. The visitor friendly farm animals were fun, especially the goats ... so much personality. Ngaire made us welcome with some lovely personalised touches, accomodated extra family staying over and the place was warm and cosy in some pretty wild weather. Loved our stay there. Thank you so much.

We are a young couple with 2 young children. We own a lifestyle property with the cottage and garden that is well-appointed about 20 metres from our home. During the weekends and summer evenings we enjoy working outside on our mini-farm, with our animals, our ever-growing lawn and never ending need for firewood.

We offer a quick and easy check in and are available for tour assistance for local activities. I like to be home to make sure you are settled in, so if you know the time you are going to arrive it would be great if you could let me know. Especially in winter so I can have the cottage warm for you.

If there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable or answer queries we invite you to visit or contact us. We are passionate about being accommodating and responsive.
