Unique accommodation in quiet street ideal for families / groups.
Loved the historical ambience of the building, and the modern conveniences incorporated in period style. Comfortable beds and plentiful kitchen-ware and linen available to use. Surprised by the lack of actual wine glasses so we used tumblers and beer handles! An expresso machine would have topped it off!

Awesome stay
I stayed here with my groomsmen over a period of 3 days and we absolutely loved it, the place was beautiful and furnishings fit in so well. Communication between us and the host was so easy and they even came to unlock the door for us when we locked the keys inside on accident. 10/10 would definitely stay again.

Grandeur
Our group, three fathers supporting sons at a local sports tournament, had a very comfortable stay. Plenty of resources handy - many eateries within walking distance. The hosts are very responsive to any questions asked.

Petone
Poor, used for storage of owners redundant, unused property. 37 old mugs, 1 wine glass in a wine producing county.

Why they chose this property

We were attracted by the properties' history - constructed for the Ancient Order of Foresters - The Ancient Order of Foresters is one of the oldest friendly societies, with its origins in Yorkshire in the 1790s. Philanthropy and virtue featured prominently in the principles and ritual of the Society. ‘The object of Forestry is to unite the virtuous and good in all sects and denominations of man in the sacred bonds of brotherhood so that while wandering through the Forest of this World they may render mutual aid and assistance to each other’. Like Freemasonry it was open to anyone believing in a Creator. Just as its lodges were called Courts, the officers of the society used the titles of officials of the medieval forest courts, such as Ranger and Woodward. However, the order blended this mediaeval idea with the notion of Adam as the first Forester. In the late 19th Century Forestry spread over the world, particularly to the British colonies but also to the USA. In 1892 a proposal was put forward to open the Foresters to women by allowing the formation of female Courts. This resulted in an alteration to the emblem of the order to include the figure of a female forester.

The Lodge was used for many years as the local community hall - meetings, ballet lessons, parties, before being lovingly renovated into a home.
