About this property

Rotoaira Retreat, Lake Rotoaira

Rotoaira Retreat is a basic and comfortable retreat at the foot of Mt. Tongariro with stunning views across Lake Rotoaira and Mt. Pihanga.

It really is an ideal venue for those that love to be outdoors, in a rural setting.

But, if doing outdoor stuff really isn't your thing, the Retreat is a great place to spend time in front of the log burner, looking across a beautiful vista.

If you have kids there is lots of room for them to play and explore - they will love it

If you have dogs, they're welcome too and a secure dog run where you can leave them safely, from where they too can enjoy the views!

It is less than 20 minutes to the carpark at Whakapapa Ski Fields, and 15 minutes to the Chateau and National Park. Lake Otamangakau, Lake Rotopounamu and fishing, rafting and kayaking on the impressive Tongariro River are only 10 minutes away.

The start of the Tongariro Crossing is approx 20 km's away and Turangi is less than a 15 minutes away.

Turangi is handy for its lovely Golf Course, Cash Machines, Petrol Stations, Supermarket, Bakery, Liquor Store, Tokaanu hot pools and boat-ramp access to Lake Taupo

It doesn't matter if you seek tranquility or something very different – the Rotoaira Retreat will meet your needs.

Special conditions:
Smoking allowed outside only (there is a covered area).

Loved staying here and waking up to that view. The horse was cute. Being pet friendly was a giant bonus and my dogs loved running around the property. Owner is super lovely. I read some people saying they had no reception but if youre with Spark the reception is excellent.

Disliked: Cleanliness
We loved the peacefulness and tranquility of this retreat. However the only thing I would recommend improving would be the cleanliness of the place. There were used blankets pillows and sheets. Not clean or prepared before our stay. We loved seeing the animals around the property and talking to the owner. Another thing was the back door was not secure or locked. I did feel abit unsafe staying there. It needed an upgrade with things like an air con because it does get quite hot in the house. Other than that, really lovely stay. Just a few minor improvements needed. Thanks

Great for book readers who want to be incommunicato
I struggled to relax and sleep in the property with being unable to lock the doors. The ranchslider has no lock and even though the place is in the middle of nowhere, I felt uneasy knowing that the house could not be locked up. There was also absolutely no cellphone reception at all. I had to drive to the SH1/SH46 Rangipo junction to stay in contact with my family. The neighbour is quite friendly and popped over for a chat a few times. If you're OK sleeping with an unlocked door and want to bury yourself in a book for a few days, this is a great place to do so. It just wasn't for me so I ended up going home a few days earlier than planned.

Tidy bach with wonderful view
Our host was one of the highlights of the stay. Dave is a real character and has no shortage of stories to tell. You wake up and open the curtains to the views of Lake Rotoaira. The bach has all the essentials and a very comfortable bed. Centrally located to many beautiful walks, and of course just down the road from the finish of the Tongariro Crossing. Thanks again Dave.

Beautiful retreat, friendly owner
Loved staying at this retreat by the lake. Our friendly host made us feel welcome and we were treated to a roaring fireplace, deer roaming in the paddock and a comfy bed.
