About this property

Historic Mataia Homestead

**Full refund offered for cancellations due to covid travel restriction**

Mataia Homestead is a 125 year old historical homestead located on a 1400ha unique combination of a working sheep and beef farm and private nature reserve on the beautiful Kaipara Harbour.

The perfect spot for families or groups looking for a quiet retreat, the homestead is situated on approximately 5 acres of gardens, including a large productive vegetable and herb garden and a heritage fruit orchard. There are a number of short and long walks through the 400 hectare private conservation reserve which is made up largely of coastal native forest margin and salt marsh wetland. This area is a great place for bird-watchers and boasts rare populations of Fernbird, Banded Rail and North Island Brown Kiwi and is host to a large number of other native bird species. Please note the best time to enjoy the walks is between November - May. During the Autumn and Winter months the tracks can get very wet and muddy.
The two-storey homestead features 6 bedrooms, two bathrooms, a library/television room, music room, dining room and large open plan kitchen and lounge area making it the perfect space for groups.

The homestead is located 15 minutes from the small village of Kaukapapa, and equidistant from three townships - Warkworth, Wellsford and Helensville (all within a 30 minute drive).

The Magic of the Mataia Homestead
There really are no words to describe the magical portal that you step into at the Mataia Homestead. It is a true gem. We absolutely loved our stay and the opportunity to feel so relaxed from the moment we stepped through the doors. The lit fire place and the beautiful surrounding truly are breathtaking. We all slept well in our beds and enjoyed taking time to prepare food in the kitchen and being seated together at the dinning room table. The perfect place for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle. Can't wait to be back!!!!

Enhanced Taskforce Green - South Kaipara / Auckland Response
Thank you for amazing comms, an amazing homestead and for exceptional service! Our 12 person team needed a home away from home to help affected farmers and landowners in the South Kaipara with the massive cleanup after Cyclone Gabrielle. Mataia Homestead and our hosts provided a beautiful place to stay that more than met our teams needs after a hard days work. Thanks you ☺️

Excellent and appreciative
Thank you very much Jenny, Mataia Homestead is a beautiful homestead in the heart of the South Kaipara. Our team of 12 utilized this accommodation to provide services to farmers still dealing with the cleanup post Cyclone Gabrielle. The team are still talking about how awesome the accommodation was, and how well it served our 12 person team. Ngā mihi nui, L-J

Rolling hills & coastal paths
A group of 8 adults attending a family wedding at Waterfall Farm - we were blown away by the enchanting garden and grounds. The Mataia homestead was completely lovely too - superb period details combined with modern kitchen and bathrooms. The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed taking a hike to the quarry and back along the coast path - it was warm and sunny so we felt we had earned the cold beer at the end of the day! The house and it’s setting made the wedding even more special. Thank you Jenny and Shane
