Region: The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Town: Stocksbridge is a town on the north-east edge of the lovely Peak District, and offers a variety of places to eat and shop, as well as a host of footpaths and bridleways to explore. Afternoon strolls can be enjoyed beside the Langsett, Broomhead and Moorhall dams, and Holmfirth, featured in Last of the Summer Wine, is close by. The longer walks and good mountain biking of the National Park are a short drive away, and visitors may even take advantage of the proximity of the M1 to venture as far afield as Sheffield, Leeds or York.
