Photo gallery for Casa Abuelita: An exquisite, historic La Paz home.

This gorgeous house is over 100 years old, and has been painstakingly renovated to offer all the modern amenities while retaining the charm and style of its exquisite original structure. Casa Abuelita is El Cirio Vacation Home's crowning jewel.
The small, private plunge pool is perfect for cooling off in summertime, and in the chillier months you can turn on the heater.
It is small yet still refreshing (.9m x 1.9m x 3.7m), and clean beach towels are provided poolside.
There are many comfortable places to sit outdoors and admire the songbirds flitting in and out of your yard.
Pop off the cushions if you would like to peer down into the house's century-old well! (Don't worry, the metal safety grate cannot be removed.)

About this property

Casa Abuelita: An exquisite, historic La Paz home.

Summary:
This is a traditional La Paz home! Over a hundred years old, this songbird-themed home lies in the heart of downtown, and just a short walk from the beach. It is cozily nestled in between some of La Paz’s trendiest shops, cafés and restaurants. Recently renovated and meticulously maintained, Casa Abuelita retains all the detail and charm of the original structure while bringing you 21st century amenities and all the vacation essentials.

The Space:
Casa Abuelita is the darling and favorite a of all the guests who have made this their home away from home. Its decoration and furniture is just exquisite. We’ve paid extensive time, love, and attention to the beautiful bird-themed murals and artwork of Casa Abuelita—a magnificent detail that brings light and beauty to its open spaces.

The colonial architecture of Casa Abuelita is a window into the past of this gorgeous city. Built over 100 years ago, it recently had an exquisite and complete renovation that has preserved the history and beauty of a vintage home while bringing you all the comforts and amenities of the 21st century.
Its interiors as well as its exteriors are beautiful and very comfortable. The original doors, cleaned and waxed, still hang beneath the wooden beams where they have been for decades, but they are now accompanied by a layer of foam insulation and waterproofing that allow for comfortable nights, even in the heat of summer.
Its two master bedrooms are warm and colorful. The side street rooms that once served spaces for Señora Julieta’s typing classes have been remodeled and are now finely designed bathrooms that also act as buffers from the sounds of the street.

Inside the house you will find unexpected peace and serenity, especially in the central courtyard, which has a pool, bbq grill, sun area, and features an old well, protected by a sturdy steel grate, that still reaches down into the La Paz aquifer.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to all areas of the house beyond the 3 bedrooms. Common areas include living room, kitchen and a full dining room, outdoor living room and pool in the courtyard, and laundry room with a washer and dryer. There are air conditioning units in every room of the house.

We take pride in using non-toxic cleaning supplies, providing a healthier and more natural alternative, while being just as effective to synthetic-based conventional cleaners.

We are making efforts towards water conservation in La Paz. We are adopting water-efficient technologies, growing mostly native vegetation in our decorative gardens, promoting responsible water usage, and building urban rainwater capture basins.

Finally, we provide canvas grocery bags you can use in your trips to the local stores, farmer’s and fish markets.

The Neighborhood:
Casa Abuelita lies in the heart of old La Paz, one block from the Malecón (the boardwalk that lines the cove), and one block from the Cathedral and the central plaza. La Paz’s finest restaurants are within a block or two of the house. Within strolling distance are two traditional Mercados where you can buy fresh fish, meats and vegetables.
The neighborhood restaurants include Ambrusia, JR Ribs, Tres Virgenes, Sorstis, la mentita, 1240 coffee shop, La Masa y MoMo fantastics pastries bakeries.

Casa Abuelita is the perfect place to explore Baja California Sur’s only true Mexican city, set like a pearl in the crown of the Bay of La Paz. Your days can be spent wandering the shops and markets, strolling the Malecón or heading to the islands for scuba diving, snorkeling, or playing with the sea lion cubs.

Getting Around:
From the airport: You can take a taxi or rent a car.*

To the boardwalk , restaurants, bars, downtown and main square where the cathedral and plaza are located, the farmer´s market, municipal market and supermarket: All are at walking distance to the outlying beaches: You can drive, or take a taxi, or a tour. If you take a taxi, do not forget to arrange your return or ask him to wait for your.*

General Notes:

•You can take the public bus one block from the house.
•And you can take UBER to go to everywere (except the airport).

*We can make arrangements with reliable drivers without extra costs.

Other Things to Note:
Casa Abuelita is located in the most central block in La Paz, across the street from the wonderful Mezcaleria, which is one of the city’s main attractions. Some weekends, there tends to be a lot of activity in the neighborhood at night, so you can sometimes hear music and conversation from the street and Mezcaleria.

Gorgeous, peaceful, and perfectly located
This is truly a beautiful property which is probably why it is booked out a year in advance for key months. If you go to La Paz, you should stay here. I stay in La Paz many times and always stay in nice places and this is my favorite!

Amazing! Great location, wonderful home!
4 friends and I came to La Paz and based off previous reviews we were pretty excited to check this place out. It did not disappoint. The house is thoughtfully decorated with birds throughout, whether mobiles or painted on the walls. The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast and coffee and drinks. The beds were very comfortable, every room had a fan. The pool is bigger than it looks in the photos as is the courtyard. The courtyard is so cozy, we spent our last night hanging out in the backyard there. We heated up the pool at night and it was a warm tub in the morning! Everything was wonderful. Check in and out was easy. And the location is absolutely perfect. Close to some great bars and restaurants, we went down the street two blocks for breakfast and dinner and across the street to the Coyota and Mezcaleria for drinks other nights. Simply perfect! We can't wait to come back.

Wish we could have stayed longer
This is a lovely home, exquisitely furnished, in a great location that enables walking to most areas of interest. The street outside just completed a significant upgrade in March by the city so it is very attractive (and the construction work has ended). The block is a mixed use block with retail, homes and one bar. The kitchen had everything needed with a nice island and the knives were sharp. The back patio area was very inviting and relaxing with a heated pool. The living and dining areas were spacious and well arranged. The bedrooms and baths were furnished with high quality bedding and towels. The trade off for a central location is of course some typical inner city noise. Two of the bedrooms front on the street and one is located away from the street and is quieter. Those who like to go to bed early and who are not accustomed to or are sensitive to inner city noise may want to brings some ear plugs for sleeping. All in all a very enjoyable stay although it was cut short due to the border closing. Management was very helpful in addressing the issues associated with our early departure. Highly recommend this professionally run house whose management goes above and beyond expectations.

Great stay in best neighborhood
We had a fantastic time in La Paz and found that the house was perfectly located. You are literally surrounded by the best coffee shops, fresh organic juice bar, restaurants, Mezcal bar and the water all within a block. The house has everything you need and more to have an enjoyable stay and was perfectly clean. Designated parking spots were occupied by construction workers at the time of our stay but there was plenty of parking on the street so it was no inconvenience. There is a fantastic bar across the street which created atmospheric noise into the wee hours and some local animals but nothing you wouldn’t expect given the central urban location. Thanks for the stay, we would not hesitate to return!

My name is Monica. I grew up in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, and have lived La Paz for the last six years. During that time, I've grown roots into the community through educational programs and efforts to advance environmental conscience in the form of organic gardens, recycling, and sustainable water-management practices.

As La Paz doesn’t have a city recycling program, we go the extra mile and arrange for recycling ourselves. We offer recycling bins for our guests, which we then transport to proper recycling facilities outside of town.
