Noddfa is a traditional 1843 built Welsh country cottage in the heart of Snowdonia close to Betsw-y-Coed in the beautiful Machno Valley. Noddfa means sanctuary or haven and this is exactly what our lovely cottage offers. It is a well equipped and very comfortably furnished property. It has a large, cosy sitting room with traditional wood burner; large Welsh slate floored dining kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and delightful open fire; downstairs toilet; small south facing private sun trap garden; double master bedroom with exposed beams and oak stripped floorboards; small second bedroom with three foot adult sized bunks; modern bathroom with walk in shower cubicle. Noddfa is very well equipped with traditional Portmeirion crockery and high quality fixtures and fittings. It is fully centrally heated. The cottage also has good speed wi-fi. It is in the peaceful Welsh village of Penmachno, very close to the friendly local pub (closed Monday and Tuesday) serving food at weekends and a well stocked village shop. There is a parking space outside the garden which is usually free but there is plenty of parking in the village if not. It is ideally placed for walking, cycling or simply relaxing. Please note there is very limited public transport (which also changes with the seasons) to and from the village so a car is needed.

Penmachno has a welcoming feel as soon as you enter. It is an old cottage with modern living. The log fire warms you nicely on chillier evenings. The pub opposite is friendly. The food smelt good though we didn’t eat there. It’s easy to get to the coast near Criccieth and Porthmadog, the Snowdon start points and Betws y Coed is very close with some testing walks featuring superb views. Recommended.
We had such a lovely stay here! The location was amazing and the house had everything we needed and more. We also loved how kid-friendly it was.
One thing worth mentioning, there were quite a lot of air fresheners used in this home. For someone sensitive to fragrance or chemicals it may be an issue.
Otherwise this house was perfect and relaxing, and the area was stunning. We look forward to visiting again!

Why they chose this property
We have enjoyed 10 happy years at our Welsh retreat. It is a real home from home. Noddfa is a characterful stone country cottage built in 1843. Within 40 minutes of the cottage is the seaside towns of Llandudno and Conway, Bodnant Garden National Trust property, the picturesque village of Portmeirion and the wonderful beaches of Borth y Gest, Porthmadog and Criccieth. The cottage itself is in the quiet village of Penmachno, close to Betsw-y-Coed but away from the tourists and ideally placed for country walks. We would love our guests to enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the Welsh countryside as much as we do.
