Great place to stay off the beaten path

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks and really enjoyed it. It is definitely off the beaten path from the more touristy areas, which for us was nice. Set in up in the mountains near historic Makawao (a beautiful yet slightly congested historical town). It is centrally located if you have a rental car and most everything on the island is 30-60 min drive depending on traffic.

The staff is friendly and helpful, house keeping supplied fresh towels and fruit regularly. The gardens and grounds are quiet and beautiful. It is slightly cooler here than down below on the coast. Generally it was about 10 degrees cooler. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. One thing to note is this is NOT a B&B as there is no breakfast provided or other aspects of traditional B&B. They did provide plenty of snacks and granola bars.

The only things we didn't enjoy were the bugs. There was a lot of small, gnat type bugs, which weren't a big deal more of an annoyance. We also had some cockroaches make an appearance a few of the nights we were there in the bathroom. Of the 2 weeks we were there I think we had only a few show up but we don't have them where we live so they were a bit startling to me.

Overall this is a beautiful place to stay in Maui. It is private and enjoyable and very fairly priced. Taking our whole stay into consideration we would definitely recommend it.

Peaceful healing upcountry hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Ho’omana is a gem tucked away in the upcountry. It’s just a couple of miles from historic Makawao Town.

The grounds are covered with banana trees and every healing plant imaginable.

The staff are so friendly and full of aloha.

I recommend staying here when you’re ready to step away from the heavily populated areas of the island.

And be sure to book a spa treatment while you’re here!
