About this property

The Casa degli Avi in Modica in the historic center: Casa Donna Giovanna

Casa Donna Giovanna of the Case degli Avi group, SI-Moutique brand, is an ancient housing unit, of great charm and charm, in Modica Alta, in the Consolo ancient district of Modica, gateway to the old city with extreme rock character, in a few steps from the fifteenth-century Convent of Santa Maria del Gesù and close to the medieval Castle of the Counts and the Cathedral of San Giorgio, a masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque.
The house renovated with the use of natural and typical materials of the local tradition such as terracotta, lime, cement, exposed stone of Modica, wood and wrought iron, has sober and essential furnishings, made up of objects typical of the local tradition. The Donna Giovanna house can accommodate up to 4 people being equipped with a double bed on the mezzanine and a sofa bed on the ground floor inserted in the living area. It is equipped with all services and comforts (kitchenette, minibar, air conditioning or ventilated, TV, WI-FI, etc.) ideal for those who want to live their holiday independently and freely.
It is characterized by having a unique masonry kitchenette, in terms of workmanship and aesthetics, made with materials of the best local artisan tradition, and able to satisfy the guest, the temptation of the throat, the need to savor on the spot the taste of typical recipes of the Shire such as to prepare yourself a cup of hot chocolate or a herbal tea with thyme or sage of the Hybleans.
Common services include linen change, scheduled cleaning and identity breakfast on request.
To make known the myths, the history, the archaeological sites, the shores, the natural areas and the most enchanting places of this wonderful part of Sicily is our commitment. Love for this land is the guiding thread of our action.
We organize for our guests tours and guided visits, from the magnificent cities of art such as Modica, Ragusa Ibla, Scicli, Noto, Syracuse, Caltagirone, Palazzolo Acreide, to the uncontaminated natural reserves such as Cava d'Ispica, the canyon of Cava Grande, the Vendicari beaches as well as the places of Montalbano. We also provide the best food and wine and artisan excellence of the area and a vintage car for night tours in the historic center.
Entering the Casa Donna Giovanna, one of Le Case degli Avi, allows you to experience and smell the scent of the past that rises from the subsoil to the surface, where entrenched villages existed, the first examples of stable settlements, where the techniques of collecting water were developed. In this house, stone and rock, together with man, have found an imaginative architect in the water, surprisingly drawing a world under trace, no less extraordinary than the baroque one, made of underground cavities that cross, branch, explode in drugs lithic architectures, constituting a context of singular beauty, which with its cavities, large and small, natural or artificial, testifies the history of the Consolo district and its inhabitants.

My review
The apartment was located in the medieval part of the dwelling, which had initially been a cave house. The owner proudly showed us round his museum - very interesting. The accommodation was compact with steep stairs but a comfortable bed.

Awesome hosts in a historic spot
We were well treated by hosts of the property who have converted a large home where family has lived since Middle Ages in a historic location into small apartment like units. Charming and clean. Would recommend to anyone. Bed and pillows were super comfy and I felt refreshed next morning.

CASA DONNA NINA... UN AMBIENTE DAVVERO PAZZESCO!!! Non manca nulla...ideale per chi ama circondarsi di ciò che la storia modicana ci ha lasciato, per chi ama assaporare profumi e vivere ambienti tipici siciliani...i Inoltre...AVETE MAI VISTO UNA VASCA IN CAMERA CON TANTO DI CASCATA,RICAVATA NEL POZZO DI UNA GROTTA?!...VI LASCIO SOLO IMMAGINARE....NOI CE NE SIAMO INNAMORATI!!! Altro punto FORTE....L' OSPITALITA', COME ESSERE A CASA!!!
