Periwinkle Cottage of Coral Bay

Space 106 m²
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

2 story, 2 bedroom cottage with 2.5 bathrooms overlooking Coral Bay

Periwinkle Cottage of Coral Bay is a perfect rendition of a traditional West Indian cottage with modern amenities such as WiFi, ceiling fans, and window screens. Located at the end of a private road, Periwinkle has a million dollar view of Coral Bay, historic Fortsberg, and Norman Island in the BVI. Periwinkle is close to the village of Coral Bay with its variety of restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. The location is ideal for exploring St John's best beaches on the North Shore, the South Shore, and the East End.

You enter Periwinkle through a vine-covered arbor into a private brick courtyard. The upper level living area is bright, open and airy with white vaulted ceilings and 2 ceiling fans. The living room has large white wicker chairs, a love seat, and several tables and reading lamps. All furniture is upholstered with cotton slipcovers, cushions, and pillows. The stunning water view, the polished concrete kitchen counters, the gas stove, and a full array pots, pans, and kitchen utensils make cooking a pleasure.

Beyond the living area is the upper gallery, equipped with Phantom screens which may be raised or lowered. The gallery dining table set seats four guests. Two places to lounge on the gallery include a large outdoor sofa and a hammock. A teak bistro set in the kitchen seats 2.

A wide covered staircase to the lower level leads to a gated 10' by 20' pool and a spacious hot tub. The tiled pool deck is furnished with chaise lounges and tables. Near the pool deck a covered deck leads to 2 private bedrooms, each with its own tiled bathroom. Double screened doors, shuttered screened windows, ceiling fans, and the trade winds keep both bedrooms airy and restful.

A gem!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our most favorite family vacation to date. Periwinkle Cottage was perfectly suited to our family of four. We loved the indoor outdoor living and the views from every room. It was even more beautiful than we had expected from the pictures and very clean. The ceilings were higher than we thought, and there was such an open and airy feel. We didn't even turn on the A/C due to the breezes and fans that also kept mosquitoes at bay.

Having reusable containers and coolers already at the house enabled us to pack lunches for the beach. There were also four beach chairs that came in very handy. We rented snorkel gear from Crabby's near the Coral Bay Dolphin Market which is a very close to the cottage.

Periwinkle Cottage is an absolute gem! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family, and we hope to return to it someday.

This cottage is so sweet and picture perfect. The spa and pool were wonderful and the views couldn't be beat. Our contact person, Sally, was helpful and easy to reach when we needed. The cottage was well cleaned and stocked well with kitchen appliances/gadgets, coolers, and towels. Keep in mind when you buy water that you'll need it to brush your teeth with it as well, can't put the cistern water in your mouth to spit. Only two things we didn't like and one is beyond anyone's control, lack of air con and mosquitoes. I knew that only one bedroom had ac but I've been to St Croix several times and never thought it was really needed, it was definitely needed here. I can't say this enough, the mosquitoes were horrendous. You will live in bug spray while on island and still they manage to find a spot to bite. Every restaurant has a can of OFF on the bar and you'll need it. I'm older and not so concerned with Zika but I was very thankful our daughter's plan to join us and bring our young granddaughter fell through.

A Comfy Secluded Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I, joined by another couple, had a fabulous week together at Periwinkle! As soon as we walked in the front door we were taken aback by the views and the wonderful space the owners have created. The photos really do not do this place justice. The cottage has an amazing atmosphere: it is tranquil, bright, spacious, clean and tastefully decorated.

GETTING THERE: The cottage is located in a quiet, remote area up in the hills overlooking Coral Harbor. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the ferry dock (there are two possible routes).

INSIDE THE COTTAGE: The owners have provided all of the things you could possibly need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday (coolers, beach chairs, mosquito spray, soaps, plenty of towels, spices etc.) Sally, the next-door neighbor toured us around the house when we arrived. She is a wonderful lady! There are two en suite bedrooms identical in size (one with air conditioning and one without), and the decor is bright and cheerful in each. I woke up to the sunset coming over the bay every morning and it was wonderful. The rooms are detached from the living/kitchen area, which is nice because it provides some privacy. The pool is much bigger than it appears in the photos, and it’s quite cool (which is a welcome respite from the heat). Goats, donkeys, sheep, and cockerels inhabit the hills surrounding the cottage and their noises provide much amusement. If you are one of those people that needs air-conditioning and can’t handle wildlife this in not the place for you. This Island has ALLOT of mosquitos. We are all covered in bites. Periwinkle is not treated, and you will leave with a ton of itchy bites.

THE VIEWS: AMAZING! Whether you are lying in the hammock upstairs or down by the pool the views are breathtaking!

THE BEACHES: The beaches are not within walking distance, and they are quite far away (at least 10-15 minutes drive) so you will need to rent a Jeep.

NEARBY: There are two grocer/corner shops nearby: Love City and Lily's Gourmet Market. Both are within walking distance (if you like a good hike up the hill). There are also a few restaurants, shops, a post office and water sports within walking distance at Cocoloba Shopping Center.

PERFECT DAY: Hike Bordeaux Mountain Trail, get a spot of lunch at Chateaux Bordeaux (I recommend the Roti), head down to Cinnamon bay for an afternoon swim, and finish off with sundowners at Periwinkle in the pool.

Goats and chickens and donkeys, oh my!

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for 12 days in September with 2 daughters. Great location just a few minutes from groceries and dining in Coral Bay and convenient to all the best beaches. East facing slope so we got to enjoy the sun & moon rises. We loved the pool and hot tub. Hung out on the screened porch and enjoyed the hammock. Nice breezes and no need for A/C. The outside grill was nice. Wi-Fi worked great. Books were a plus. Beds were comfy. Drank the tap water with no ill effects :) Privacy was great (except for one unannounced visit for pool maintenance). Kept doors unlocked and felt safe. The last .2 miles to the villa was a bit bumpy, but we got used to that :) Of the 4 places I've stayed on St John this was the best deal.
