About Bill Michels

We are a Twin Cities architect and artist who are always thrilled to spend family time in Duluth. The House and Cottage on Park Point is our little place away from home to do that. We have enjoyed remodeling and updating the house and cottage and turning it into a comfortable home with a relaxing livable atmosphere. It's given us the opportunity to do something a little different that we can share with everyone else.

Bill Michels purchased this house in 2005

Why Bill Michels chose Park Point

The beach is like nothing else in this part of the country, it's like being at the ocean. The water is warm enough to swim in, you can walk forever, and the infamous MN mosquito's are practically non existent because of the breezes off the lake. It's certainly a bonus to be a 15 minute walk down the beach to Canal Park or a short drive to the North Shore of Lake Superior.

What makes this house unique

We are just a bit unique in that there are two units we rent together. Put the kids in one or even grandma if she prefers to have her own quarters. Sometimes it's just a fight to see who gets the cottage!

And of course the location- beach, Canal Park, Lake Superior, the North Shore, restaurants...!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hey Bill,Just wanted to let you know....Anyhow that is a gorgeous place, it was the coolest design and decorating, I fell in love with it. I just wanted you to know that you did an excellent job, I felt like it was from a magazine. Thank you for letting us stay in your rental and for letting us bring our pets. We had a great time, and will tell everyone about the greatest place in Duluth. Thanks again.Megan

We enjoyed it very much, its very quaint and comfortable with beautiful access to the lake.

This home is the boyhood home of our Father and my Sister and I were very excited to be able spend a couple of days at the home. The birdbaths from over 77 years ago are still in the same place - amazing. The home has been well kept and mondernized to today's standards. There is a very nice fire pit adjacent to the home and although we did not use it It certainly is a nice touch for a family to enjoy themselves around a roaring fire. The home is very comfortable, very clean and we had a most enjoyable stay.

Owner's Response: Very nice to meet Reed and Barbara and connect the house to its history, they brought along a photo of the Reed at 10 months with his father and grandfather and another with his grandmother at 10 months next to the birdbath. Thank you so much for sharing! Bill

A very old , cobbled up place with no view.

  • 2 of 5

was disappointed in our stay which was shortened by the death of our mother, but could not be reimbursed anything, so instead of 4 nights charged to us, we were able to stay 2. Our family had booked months in advance and didn't think we'd have any reason to cancel. The grounds need work as the bugs are everywhere, the walk to the beach is also very rough and then drops off to a climb down to the beach. No view from cabin at all of the lake..just a little mis-leading. It is close to the bridge that raises for ships, and conveniently close to the downtown area and is kept clean. We would not stay here again.

We had a wonderful time for our anniversary celebration.

  • 5 of 5

The house was neat and clean w 2 nice bathrooms on the 2nd level. The cottage behind the house allowed privacy for our family w small children. Was an easy walk out the back to the beach, which was amazing! We enjoyed the campfire too. Great location for exploring Duluth!! We will definitely be back!!

More than meets the eye

  • 5 of 5

What a place! Even though neighbors seem to be close, the fire pit area and house are very quiet!

Very comfortable, modernized space that feels like home

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable, modernized space that feels like home. Our family enjoyed the lake access. Having a space for my daughter who was graduating to spend time with the 11 of us who stayed there was a huge blessing. We will definitely book the quaint house and cottage on Park Point next time we are visiting our daughter in Duluth and need space for a crowd! Thank you so much!
