About this property

Deep water dock in Darien, GA, w/screened in porch, fishing, kayaks, & bikes

Riverbend Retreat is a hidden waterfront vacation gem offering a place to unplug on the Georgia coast. Surrounded by history, boating, biking, birding, fishing, kayaking, and screensaver-worthy sunsets. Riverbend Retreat is on a peninsula covered by majestic live oaks draped with Spanish moss.

This spacious, 2-story, pet-friendly waterfront home has amazing views from the screened-in back porch, large deck, and the back of the house. Regardless of high or low tide, your boat will sit atop deep water with a short dock only steps from the house. No boat? No problem! Or dock is known for being one of the best fishing spots in the county. The floating dock includes fold-down aluminum stairs, making access in and out of the water easy for anyone, including a pet. The stationary dock has lighting and a fish cleaning station, with water and electricity.

You will quickly find that "elbow room" is no problem due to an open and spacious floor plan. The main living area is upstairs, accessible by the stairs or chair lift. The upstairs consists of the kitchen, dining room, living room, a half bath, and the main bedroom. For the culinarian(s) of the group, feel free to work some magic in a kitchen that includes the tools needed for cooking, an Electrolux double convection oven, and a Jenn-Air gas cooktop/grill, perfect for preparing your catch of the day. The dining room table provides eight seats, with three additional seats at the counter.

After dinner, get cozy in the family room on one of our oversized couches in front of a fireplace and a smart flat-screen television. You can also choose from a large selection of board games to play on our 4-seat game table. If you want to be more active go downstairs for a friendly game of ping pong, billiards or fuse ball.

The main bedroom upstairs is very large and includes a sitting area with two recliners, a fireplace, and a large smart flat-screened TV. The king-sized bed is adjustable by a remote which raises the head. In addition, there is a sleeper sofa, a desk, and a small library of books for the readers in your group. Downstairs is a full bathroom connecting two large bedrooms, with each bedroom having an in-room vanity. One of the bedrooms has an adjustable king bed and the other has two twin beds, a bunk bed with a twin and queen bed.

To enjoy the river, there are four single-person kayaks, one 2-person kayak, and a lightweight canoe. Only minutes away from Riverbend Retreat is a marina with a lift and boat ramp where you can fuel up and purchase bait.

Convenient to I-95, Savannah, Brunswick, and Jacksonville, Riverbend Retreat is ideally located and provides all that you need for relaxation, recreation, and making memories with your loved ones that will last a lifetime.

We are always happy to answer any questions and look forward to sharing our little slice of heaven with you.

Family time at the coast
This property was very well kept and very clean and organized. The kitchen was very well stocked. We had a great time catching shrimp and using them for bait to catch our fish…which was our dinner one night 😊. The host, Cindy and Jeff, were great..:easy to contact and kept in touch making sure our stay was going great. They provided all kinds of games, had a ping pong table, bikes and kayaks. It was a very nice home and we had a great time. I would recommend to anyone.

Christmas in July
What a wonderful time! This trip was our Christmas gift to the kids/grandkids, something we switched to doing 6 years ago instead of material gifts. The home is amazing, location perfect. Jeff and Cindy are the nicest hosts ever!! We visited Jekyll Island, Driftwood Beach, St Simon’s Island and a quick trip to Amelia Island in northern Florida. While we loved beach time, our favorite was swimming/kayaking in the river right at home. From the dock we also fished, caught a few small fish, a sea trout and a couple of young stingrays that were released. We found that the current slows almost to nothing about an hour before high tide. Lots of games, bikes to ride, and a table tennis/pool table in the garage. There was nothing we needed that wasn’t there. The back deck with the sail shade was so relaxing along with the hammock on the lower patio. Overall this vacation is at the top of our favorites!! Thank you Cindy and Jeff, we’ll be back in a few years.

Jeff is from this area, and I grew up in Florida, where we met, married, and began our life together. We love Coastal Georgia and the salt life, and we've always enjoyed the appeal of the Darien area and the relaxing atmosphere of this family home. And though our kids didn't grow up here, we visited often to fish, swim, ride bikes, kayak, canoe, and enjoy family.
In addition to enjoying what we catch and buy from local shrimpers, our favorite places to eat serve local fresh-caught Georgia shrimp and provide a variety of dining experiences. Some examples are B & J's, Skipper's, Keys North, The Canopy, and Oaks on the River... all in downtown Darien. And when not eating, the Waterfront Wine and Gourmet is a great place to gather with friends and enjoy a glass.

Why they chose this property

Jeff is from this area and in 1989 we were married in the old Presbyterian Church in Darien. This family home is where we had our wedding reception and have made many memories over the years. We wanted to keep the home in our family to continue enjoying the beauty and fun of this area and to allow our children the opportunity to continue experiencing this special part of Georgia.

What makes this property unique

The fishing is often tremendous as there is a deep hole right below the dock, oysters and marsh grass lining the river, and a sandbar across from the dock, which you see at low tide! In fact, it's common for folks to travel some distance by boat to fish here. In addition, dolphin feed here on most low tides, all forms of coastal birds are seen daily, and manatees are occasionally seen during the summer. Many guests have caught many types of fish from our dock, especially redfish and trout, and those with boats are able to explore, boat to the beach on Sapelo Island, and fish both inshore and offshore.
