About this property

The Ritz at Trail Creek Ranch

The Ritz sits on Trail Creek Ranch in Wilson, Wyoming. The historic ranch was a Dude ranch for over 50 years and The Ritz is one of the cabins that families have enjoyed for many, many years.

The Ritz has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed (with stellar views from bed), and an enclosed loft (with a spiral staircase) with twin beds, a living room with gas fireplace, small kitchen, and full bath . The living room also has a pull out couch.

It has great big picture windows for the incredible views out to the hay field and mountains. There is a screened in porch for storage of coolers and gear and there is a picnic table with a gas grill outside the cabin.

There is room to roam around the Ranch, visiting the horses, swimming in the heated swimming pool, sitting by Trail Creek, watching the hay crew putting up the hay for the season. Plus you can hike right out your door around the Ranch or on the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Trail Creek is centrally located just a couple of minutes from our cute little town of Wilson, 10 minutes from Teton Village (the ski area), and 12 minutes from the hub of Jackson. There are numerous restaurants close by for all tastes. The southernmost entrance to Grand Teton National Park is 12 minutes from the cabin and it is 90 miles to the south entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

This is a great jumping off spot for the family that wants to enjoy all that Jackson Hole has to offer, but also wants to enjoy the real Jackson Hole.

Trail Creek Ranch has been a working guest ranch since the 1940's, and is the ideal place to experience a slice of the real western life. The cabins are set up simply, all with beautiful views and settings. You can even help with some ranch work in the summer months when it's haying time!

The combination of hiking and/or biking right out your door is unsurpassed anywhere in Jackson Hole. Along with all of the other activities Jackson Hole has to offer, this is the perfect 'base camp' to enjoy it all!

Trail Creek Ranch has a rich heritage with guests coming from all over the world for the last 50+ years. They return year after year and it's often said that Trail Creek is their home away from home.

This is the way to experience a guest ranch - with lots of independence, without the big costs.

Rustic perfection
Trail Creek Ranch is the most beautiful property - and the Ritz was perfect for our few days in Wilson. The cabin was so charming, the linens were so nice (even our 11 year old son commented on the sheets!). Alex and crew were so warm and welcoming. We only wish we could have stayed longer. If we are lucky enough to return, we'd love to stay again!

Absolutely perfect
We loved this place, if we’re ever going back to area we’d definitely try to stay here. It’s got lots for kids to do, especially the horses and the pool which our kids loved. The atmosphere was great, met other lovely people. Location - easy to get to all areas.

Lovely weekend
Beautiful ground and cabin. Comfortable beds, convenient location. Only complaint is that the listing didn’t adore that the second bedroom was at the top of a spiral staircase, which was problematic for my 3 year old. Otherwise, this was a perfect place to stay. Will definitely stay again.

Such a beautiful and calm home base while in the Tetons
This is not a place that relies on 'snazzy' to be remarkable. Instead, it is located in a peaceful and beautiful area, remote enough to totally relax but still very convenient to both Wilson and Jackson. The cabins vary but we got a brief 'tour' of them all, and each is more than satisfactory in different ways. One heads-up: if preparing meals rather than eating out is critical, this is a challenge - minimal to non-existent kitchen facilities. Alex (and ALL of the staff) are totally accommodating and friendly without ever being intrusive. Being a working ranch with many horses boarded, activities surrounding that are fun to observe. Completely out of the ordinary - and a very welcome option at the end of a busy day exploring - is a fantastic in-ground pool. When asked for suggestions about activities or places to eat, Alex gave us instant suggestions, and whether for horseback riding, river rafting or a great breakfast place, we were never disappointed.

About the host

Host profile image
Muggs and Alex lovingly run Trail Creek Ranch. A ranch that was purchased by Elizabeth (Betty) Woolsey, who was the Captain of the first women's olympic ski team in 1936. Betty found the Ranch when she skied down from the top of Teton Pass to the front of what is now the Main Lodge. She was so enamored of the property, she bought her first 40 acres that year, 1943, and started taking guests in 1946, and built it over the years to the 275 acres it is now. When Betty died in 1997, she placed an easement on the land with the Jackson Hole Land Trust, and left it to Muggs and Alex to continue the traditions of sharing a little piece of heaven. Muggs is 89 years old and you can still see her in the tractor, dragging or haying the fields and taking care of the horses and land. Alex, and her husband Mike, have made their home here for the last 29 years and are raising their four boys in this beautiful valley.

Why they chose this property

Trail Creek Ranch is a little piece of Jackson Hole history. This Ranch has been greeting guests for over 70 years, as a Dude Ranch and now as a Guest Ranch. The hospitality is genuine and we love sharing the valley and all that it has to offer.
It is one of the most authentic properties in the valley.

What makes this property unique

When you stay you will feel like it's your own private ranch!
There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, horses to visit with, trails to hike and bike.
Wildlife is all around.
The Ranch is magical.
