Gatineau Gem
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Amy's. The location was great, the condo clean and well-equipped, and Amy was a great and responsive host.

Walking Distance to Ottawa
Amy's condo is in a building at the very end of the street, next to a large park - so, there's very little traffic outside. It's a 20-minute walk to the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge. Your total walk from the apartment into Ottawa is less than an hour each way. However, when we were looking, apartments on the Ottawa side of the river were much more expensive than on the Gatineau side. Your walk from the apartment to the excellent History Museum (both on the Gatineau side of the water) is about 20 minutes. From there you can take a water taxi across to Ottawa. We like to cook "at home" and the apartment had everything we needed to look after ourselves for the 8 nights we were there. The biggest "problem" we had was that we couldn't find any proper grocery stores on the Gatineau side. There were several convenience stores ("depanneurs" in French) in the area (including one on the ground floor of Amy's building) but, like 7/11's, they mainly stock pop, chips and candy (and, in Quebec, beer and some wine.) You can go from depanneur to depanneur picking up a banana here and an onion there but, to get to a real grocery store, you have to walk across the bridge to a somewhat-sketchy area of downtown Ottawa. That's at least a 45-minute walk each way. The famous Byward Market is mainly cafes, bars and restaurants. There isn't really anywhere to buy "ingredients" for cooking.

Good, except large additional fees & slow wifi
The apartment complex and the room was clean and quiet. From the place to Bytown was only a 30 minute walk, and the bridge was a nice view. The small balcony addition was nice, and there were a lot of lighting options. The host gave a pincode to get into the building, and we called her a couple times for her to come and unlock the apartment and show us around, as well as let us know the simple rules for staying and leaving (i.e. shoes off inside, hanging towles, and where to hide the key). She also showed us how to get there and what spot to park in. Parking was underneath in a garage, and we had to move our car to another spot in the lot once, per host request, during our trip. I would normally not include specifics of prices in a review, but since the fees on the place aren't advertised and more than doubles the cost, I feel that it's incredibly important to let future guests know for complete transparency, especially since VRBO hides those extra fees until after you book; For $107.50 a night for 4 nights, the cost was $430. However, with host, service, and lodging fees of $438, this totaled $868.06, meaning with fees this place will be a little more than double what you'd initially calculate. There was also an additional $23 credit card fee after our stay. Please keep this in mind when comparing this price to other VRBOs and bnbs. Our only other complaint was the WiFi. As we were there for tech-related business, downloading a couple of images of our portfolios was extremely slow. We also later tried to stream one episode of a show, but it paused to buffer every few minutes. Overall the place itself is nice, but you should also keep in mind that the fees could be over double the seemingly cheap cost, and the wifi is quite slow.

I am a business real property owner and I am also educated in Canada, holding accounting designation (CPA, CGA) and MBA. I have been enjoying this condo and will retire in this unique Capital City several months a year. Currently, I would like to share this space with others to appreciate the proximity of all attractions in downtown Ottawa/Gatineau. Recently, I have been focusing more on vacation rental due to its dynamic feature. Vacation rental is one of my many passions, dealing with customers and learning from each other. I have developed excellent relationships with my clients via Ottawa/Hull vacation rental as well as (833737 and 741896) and Victoria BC rental (Property Number 515604). Every guest has his/her unique requirements and I have been trying to fulfill most of them. As this is my first year to welcome short vacation rental guests in Ottawa, please refer to a number of decent reviews for my Victoria vacation rental since I started my vacation rental in 2013 (VRBO property No. 515604 , 833737 and 741896).

Why they chose this property

I am a city person but I enjoy the tranquility of waterfront condo, there is a magnificent view of residence of Prime Minister, waterfall, Ottawa River and Parliament Hill. The condo is just renovated with new kitchen with fridge and stove as well as dish washer. Mostly importantly, we installed Hotel Style A/C and heating central unit as recommended by one of our guests.

What makes this property unique

Again, I have to emphasize the importance of city living. We do provide an indoor parking with $150 a month, but you will enjoy walking around the city without worrying about having a car
