Save money on this cozy adobe casita with a private backyard 3 blocks from historic Taos Plaza. It’s the perfect place for romance and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Minimum stay is TWO NIGHTS (except holidays). KING bed. Rent for two nights to two or three weeks, but we do not offer monthly rentals since our cleaning crew needs steady work - and they're the best. This casita is well appointed with basic supplies and very clean!
If you're drawn to Taos, you're probably a skier (it's excellent at nearby Taos Mountain) or you’re spiritual (our upstairs loft even has a meditation bench) or you’re into health and fitness (yoga mat and weights supplied.)
Wood floors and tongue-in-groove wood ceilings in both rooms add a special charm and the hand-plastered walls in the bedroom are tinted a salmon color that makes your skin look fantastic. The bedroom has a comfortable king-sized bed, adorned with four king size pillows, 400 thread count 100% cotton sheets, as many blankets as you want and, of course, a reading lamp on each side. Guests say it is very clean and comfortable. There's a full-length mirror plus an iron and a full size ironing board.
The tall shade trees in the backyard keep the casita cool, but if there’s a heat spell, just turn on the a/c. The private backyard is yours alone and has a charcoal grill and a small wrought-iron table with chairs. It is completely fenced in, but sorry, the enclosed hot tub is for guests of Casa Montoya (VRBO #67696), the larger property in front that sleeps 2 to 4 people, is 650 sf and features a large, fully-equipped kitchen, kiva gas fireplace, king bed and queen sofabed.
This casita has a kitchenette in the living room with 2-burner gas cook top, under-counter refrigerator, stainless steel sink, filtered water pitcher, toaster-oven, electric griddle, microwave and coffee maker. We regularly supply and refill condiments, cooking oils and spices and even some basic food items like coffee, tea, cereal, peanut butter and jelly, pasta and pasta sauce if you come in late and want a bite to eat, it's here! If you don’t feel like cooking, there are excellent restaurants within walking distance.
Bring your laptop (we have wireless internet) and your cell phone (we don’t have a telephone). If your favorite TV show is on while you'll be gone, just record it. We have a flat screen TV, Dish Hi Definition TV with DVR. And Netflix! A gas stove in the living room has a thermostat so you can be as toasty as you want. The bedroom has a/c, baseboard electric heat and there's a separate electric heater in the bathroom. The bathroom is small (no tub) with Mexican tiles, a hand-painted sink, and a Saltillo tile floor - plus a hair dryer and stocked medicine cabinet.
Casita Montoya is less expensive than our other vacation rental in Taos, but it’s quite charming and comfortable. It's small, but larger than a motel room and has a large backyard, approximately 30' x 30'. In the summer it’s always cool, (we have a/c) and toasty warm in winter! It’s a half-mile walk to the historic Plaza with lots of charming stores and galleries along the way on Kit Carson Road. The large fenced-in backyard has tall shade trees which keep it shady for you.
This is a non-smoking rental. One well-behaved dog allowed (well… maybe two). Private parking in the driveway.
Considered 'sacred' by many of the residents, Taos Mountain is a world-class ski resort. Taos has a rich history and cultural heritage, with numerous galleries, museums and festivals you can walk to from Casita Montoya. You'll love this place!

Since 2007 I've been writing and giving inspirational talks (about growing younger!) and I'm currently writing my second book. Can I brag a little? My audio book, 'Think and Grow Young - Powerful Steps to Create a Life of Joy' won the 2011 gold Nautilus Award and I am blessed with four children, two stepchildren, two foster daughters, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. And for you, my wonderful, beautiful daughter Harper manages Casa Montoya and Casita Montoya. Her presence of mind, artistic nature and attention to detail makes sure the rentals are beautiful, in shape, well stocked and super clean.

There's no place more magical or inspiring than Taos! And although small, this is a joyful house. The large, fenced in backyard sets it above and beyond others of its kind. It's close proximity to Taos attractions, yet on a quiet street make this casita very appealing. It is so sweet, it feels magical and inspiring too, just like Taos!
It's uniquely less expensive, though charming and comfortable. In the summer it's always cool, and toasty warm in winter! It's an easy walk to the historic Plaza with lots of delightful stores and galleries along the way. The private, fenced-in backyard has tall cottonwood trees which keep it cool and shady for you. In the summertime, sit back and watch the hummingbirds flitter about.
Will definitely stay again!!
Very cute, charming casita that was as the owner described. It IS small but was well appointed, nicely decorated, and very clean. The owner is very customer service oriented and responded to all questions in a timely manner. If you are not able to make it to Smith's Grocery Store, which is just around the corner, she provides food, condiments, and coffee/tea in the pantry. There is a 2 burner gas stove for cooking or heating water for tea and a small fridge. The owner allows one dog to stay for a small, additional fee and our small dog enjoyed the fenced backyard. Please read the Casita Handbook, as it warns of skunks. We did not see any while there, but we appreciated the warning. There is off street parking in the driveway, which we appreciated very much. The loft was a nice place to do our morning exercises. The casita was very warm thanks to the efficient gas heating stove. We enjoyed Taos Pueblo, Taos Plaza, and the Rio Grange Gorge during our 2-day stay in Taos.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Casita Montoya. It was very clean and as others have mentioned, the attention to detail was apparent immediately. We have stayed at a number of rental properties, and this was one of the most "complete." Everything we needed was provided and of good quality. Usually something very basic, like a serving spoon or such, is missing, and it's frustrating. Not here. The casita IS small, but we knew that going in, and it was not a problem. SO much better than a hotel.
Casita Montoya is small but very well furnished and clean and was perfect for our 4 day getaway with our dog. It was so nice to have a private backyard to relax and play with our dog. Off street parking is also a big plus. The king size bed was very comfortable and the loft was perfect for reading and napping. We were amazed at the attention to detail Ellen provided. There were pantry items available, charcoal for the backyard grill and toiletries stocked in the bathroom. Ellen communicated with us as soon as we booked and provided detailed information concerning our arrival and stay. Casita Montoya is an enjoyable walk to the Plaza. Thank you Ellen for providing such a special little casita.
The casita is very cute and well appointed. The bed is huge and comfy. It is very small (especially the bathroom and refrigerator) and there was some neighborhood noise (so if spacious, quiet seclusion is what you crave this may not be the place). But we walked to town and enjoyed the spacious backyard. Ellen was responsive and sweet. Overall, we (and our pup) would recommend this cozy spot.
The casita was perfect. It was clean, bed was extremely comfortable and the little fenced in back yard was perfect for our dogs to have some outdoor space to play. The casita was stocked with everything you could want in a home, you can really tell the owner put a lot of time and thought into making this a great vrbo rental for her guests. When I return to Taos I will definitely be renting this casita again. Plus it was literally 2 blocks from the central sqaure, 2 of the local breweries were a 5 minute walk away as well. It is really perfectly centered in town.
Historic Taos Plaza is 3 blocks away, walk to restaurants, galleries, museums, the park, shops, the theater (Taos Community Auditorium) or stay in and enjoy your private backyard.
