About this property

Secluded Getaway on 112 Forested Acres

Two hours north of Manhattan lies the pristine Catskill mountains. This charming cape style home is the perfect secluded getaway for those looking to leave it all behind and bask in tranquility. Summertime means blueberries (high bush and low bush), raspberries, blackberries, and cool breezes blowing from the rich lustrous wetland that lays uphill from the main house.

With a covered back porch, and a nice sized front deck, within earshot of one of many babbling brooks, an intact eco-system teeming with frogs, birds, butterflies, porcupines, deer, this is the perfect getaway for a family (or families) looking to create special memories far away from the maddening crowds of the city. The bedrooms are cozy, there's a galley kitchen with electric stove/oven, full size fridge and dishwasher, a spacious living room stocked with puzzles and boardgames, and a small comfortable dining room is set off of the kitchen. Additional amenities include washer/dryer, fire pit, and gas grill. The area is absolutely perfect for cycling, with routes ranging from easy to crushing, depending on your preference. There is also satellite internet, but please note: OUR INTERNET IS NOT RELIABLE ENOUGH OR FAST ENOUGH FOR REMOTE WORK OR SCHOOL.

The 112 acres spans both sides of the road, and includes extensive woodland, streams that occasionally tumble into modest waterfalls, and a large marsh that attracts an extensive bird population.

Here is some recently shot, completely unedited drone footage that gives you a sense of the remoteness of the land and the beauty of the forest surrounding the property (copy and paste the URL into your browser to watch):

Lovely House in Quiet Area
We spent the 4th of July week at the property. The house is lovely, the downstairs stayed cool despite not having air conditioning. The screened in porch out back is the ideal place to enjoy a thunderstorm. The kitchen is very well stocked with all utensils necessary to cook and eat. There is also a nice selection of books, puzzles, and outdoors toys available. The outdoors property is also very beautiful. The forest/ wetland across the road turned out a perfect spot for dog walking. It took us a bit of searching to find our path, but that just made for enjoying the forest a bit longer. A good spot for bird watching, too. I particularly liked observing the family of bluebirds in the yard. For somebody living normally by a busy road, what struck me the most was just how quiet the area is. There is really nothing else to hear but birds singing.

Great place to disconnect and unwind
Great location to unplug and enjoy nature. The house is beautiful, well maintained, and thoughtfully designed. The surrounding property offered lots of opportunities to get into the woods and appreciate nature without getting in the car. While there aren't many nearby stores and shops, we had everything we needed and necessities were not too far afield. Plenty of more substantial hikes and swimming hole options around the area too. Hosts were very communicative and helpful. We really enjoyed the quiet nights around the fire. Would love to stay again!

We're a native New York family with a deep and abiding love of nature. We're happy to be able to share our not-so-little slice of wilderness to anyone looking to escape the break-neck pace of modern life.

Why they chose this property

If you're looking for peace and quiet and nature's warm (and sometimes cold) embrace, you've come to the right place. Set back from a very quiet road (a total of five houses on a one mile stretch), the house sits in the corner of 112 acres of unspoiled secondary forest with lots of different terrain to explore. Perfect for families and friends seeking solace and fun and a true feeling of getting away from it all. Summertime holds the promise of raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Kids especially enjoy exploring the highly varied terrain.
